1ST JUNE 2010
A (VERY) WARM WELCOME FROM
THE DIRECTORS
Dear Ibiza Rockers!
We hope you’re enjoying your time on the white isle.
This week we really feel the island has woken up
and party season has arrived, (did you rave it up at
Space and DC10 opening?) Entering its 3rd season
the Ibiza Rocks hotel is geared up and raring to go
for another summer of awesome live music starting
Tuesday 8th with Biffy Clyro and Bombay Bicycle
Club. We really feel this summer’s line-up is one of
our best and every Tuesday for the next 15 weeks
will be an unmissable experience. We’re also very
proud to reveal our new and improved Ibiza Rocks
Bar and will keep you posted on all the events going
on throughout the summer, literally watch this space...
If you’re in need of some new tunes check out our
Ibiza Rocks compilation CD available from the shop
in the hotel or the Ibiza Rocks Bar - it’s one part
Ibiza Rocks and one part Reclaim the Dancefloor and will get you shaking all the way back to the UK.
We’re also thrilled to welcome back Pete Doherty
an Ibiza Rocks veteran (check out his broken guitar
on the wall in the Ibiza Rocks Bar), and thank him
for his acoustic performance to kick start what
we can guarantee will be an amazing summer!

COMING UP...
Tuesday 8th June launches our Playboy afternoons
and will reveal our chosen bikini clad bunny girls. Tart
with a Heart (of Blonde Ambition DJs and Mystery
Jet’s Madhouse resident) will be providing an eclectic
mix of up and coming indie tunes, chilled beach
tracks, festival anthems and rock and roll classics.
Thursday 10th June is a VIP affair and will be guestlist
only. It’s the 50th anniversary of Playboy and to mark
this momentous, cosmopolitan occasion Playboy are
holding 50 birthday parties around the world. Ibiza
Rocks and Majorca Rocks are hosting 2 of the parties
and our ravishing Ibiza Rocks bunnies will be back
out in full dazzling force. This night promises to be a
glitzy and glam occasion, not to mention historical,
with a personal video message from the legend Hugh
Hefner himself! If you fancy VIPing it up for this one
(and we highly recommend that you do) we’ve got
some special offers on the tables for hotel guests. You
can get a bottle of champers, or a spirit bottle and
mixers, and the company of our lovely bunnygirls for an
extremely reasonable price. To book a table and enquire
about guest list call Oscar on 669377815 or call into the Bar.
IBIZA ROCKS THE RABBIT... THE
SEARCH IS ON!
If you’re a hot senorita with a party
girl persona and a love of rock and
roll then we want to meet you! This
year, to mark 50 years Playboy has
teamed up with Ibiza Rocks and
we’re looking for girls girls girls - or
should we say bunnies bunnies
bunnies - to come and host our VIP
terrace, hang out with the bands,
shake their tales to the tunes, and
generally look cool and have fun.
And if that wasn’t enough Playboy
are looking for a new playmate
centrefold so if you impress us this
summer you could be being flown
to LA for a Playboy photoshoot and
who knows, maybe even meet the
Hef himself! Oh and check out the
T-Shirt Playboy have designed for
us in the Ibiza Rocks shop, it’s a
staff fave. Ask Ibiza Rocks promo
staff in reception for further info.
IBIZA ROCKS BAR
Positioned overlooking San Antonio Beach everyone’s
talking about the brand spanking new Ibiza Rocks
Bar. Including a diner filled with delicious grub to
cater for all your hangover needs, from full English’s
to fruit platters and smoothies, and boasting a variety
of mouth watering grills. (We know only too well it will
be a favourite place for daytime dining and drinking
amongst the bands and the DJ’s.) Decks overlook
the beach and neon pink dancefloor, and there’s 1
of the 2 largest TV screens on the island (the Ibiza
Rocks hotel holds the other) showing all the world cup
AFTER SEX AND DRUGS COMES
ROCK AND ROLL: I’M WITH THE
BAND BY SCALLY BRADSHAW
As I sit here in front of my laptop sipping my
San Miguel and taking pondering drags from my
Marlborough menthols I couldn’t help but wonder
what this summer would have in store... I’ve taken
2 summers off from Ibiza to learn my trade as a DJ
(thank you Infadels for the lessons) and present for
various music shows in London, but this God damn
island is far too seductive and has lured me back for
another summer of debauchery. Having been with
Ibiza Rocks since it began, starting as one of the
dancers, before moving into artist liaison, and then
transitioning into the media side of things, I have many
a band tale - more of a novel really - some of which
my lucky amigos’, I will share with you in this column.
Bands you may blush, stop reading now please...
So I got to thinking... about Pete Doherty as he is our
first rockstar performer of the summer. Now Pete and
I go way back as Babyshambles have played for Ibiza
Rocks on more than 1 occasion over the years. I have
to say whatever rumours you do and do not conceive
to be true about Pete, I find him to be a real gent and
an extremely agreeable chap. He was kind enough
to offer to beat the living daylights out of rather rude
and intrusive west end piss head when I was hurled
abuse at - a protective friend in my opinion. I also
needed to get a quote off him for our first Ibiza Rocks
CD, whilst I couldn’t reach him initially; he courteously
called me back from a cab on his way to court.
My favourite memories of Pete however are back at the
Ibiza Rocks villa. There was the time I turned my back
for 2 minutes and he was trying to put the cushions
from the sofa into the fire. Or the time I tried to make
toasties which failed miserably (they exploded) and he
sympathetically took over and politely ate the remains.
You know the game where you put a famous person’s
name on a post it note and the person sat next to you
has to put it on their head and guess who it is? It was
a site to be seen watching Pete try to work out who
I’d chosen for him – Abby Titmus. There was also the
occasion after a long night of partying when I had
retreated to bed knackered. All of a sudden I could feel
my bed moving towards the door, I opened my eyes
to see Pete, who wasn’t tired yet (he’s more energy
than a Duracell Bunny) pushing the bed towards the
door, he then proceeded to tilt the top of the bed and
literally tip me out. The reason behind this being? He
wanted company to watch the thunderstorm of course.
Yes Pete is indeed a unique entity, well educated,
poet, softly spoken bad boy, icon?
More memoirs to follow...
Besos Scally x
Also coming up from our Scally over the
summer ‘Steel of the Week’ - She’ll be “robbing
from the bands to give to the fans”.
(And don’t under estimate the power of our Scally.
She once kidnapped Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie
and held him hostage on Harmar Superstar’s tourbus
following a headline performance at Leeds festival...)
So be it Calvin Harris’ trunks, Dizzee Rascals
cigarette butts or Ian Brown’s boogies,
here’s your chance for input; any thieving

IBIZA ROCKS HOTEL
And the ballet dancer dancers, they’re new! How
did that one come about? How did you find them?
The Ibiza Rocks Hotel plays host every Tuesday
to all the Ibiza Rocks gigs and is by far the coolest
place to crash whilst partying in Ibiza. The Enemy
insisted on staying here when they played 2 years
ago, other headliners include MGMT, Dizzee Rascal,
Calvin Harris, Friendly Fires and the Kooks. Boasting
not 1 but 2 huge swimming pools, 4 metre by 3
metre plasma TV screen showing the world cup,
poolside DJ’s spinning Balearic beats and indie
anthems, an Xbox Social Room, VIP terrace and
band green room, performers penthouse, and the
electric bar also by the main pool serving food and
drinks till the wee small hours - you’ve got it all
under the one roof. But here are a few things you
may not have realised about our iconic hotel...
I think it was more like they found me...
DID YOU KNOW?
On floor 5 there’s a footy pitch and tennis court.
By the main pool at the end of the electric bar
there’s a gym. To use ask at reception, you
will need to give a returnable €10 deposit.
For €6 a day you can have the luxury
of air conditioning, ask at reception
and they will give you a remote.
For €2.75 a day you can rent a safe available
from reception (small deposit needed)
You can upgrade to one of our VIP
room’s which overlooks the gigs
Detox before you Retox - try one of the
electric bar’s fruit filled smoothies to get
those serotonin levels back to scratch
We have our lovely Ibiza Rocks promo team on
hand in reception to give you any advice you
may need, where to go, where NOT to go, decent
dealers (for club tickets of course) etc etc.
IBIZA ROCKS SHOP
I noticed you mixing it up with the Libertines and
Babyshambles classics. And you’re all set for a
Libertines reunion at Reading and Leeds festival?
Yeah, Carl and I are both really excited about that
one, and who knows it may lead to more dates.
You’ve played Ibiza Rocks on more than one
occasion, what’s been your highlights?
The cat in the pool at the Ibiza Rocks villa! Seriously,
there have been some great times, really great
parties; reckon might be another one tonight.
Reckon you’re right! (A round of mojitos
has just been placed on the table)
So what have you been up to recently?
I’ve been in the studio composing the music
for the next Shambles album. It’s pretty much
there; I need to write all the lyrics now.
Well you’d better get cracking then!
Yeah , tell me about it...
Cheers Pete, good to have you back.
Good to be back.

zips and clamour.) Everything ok Kai?
Yes, sorry just putting on my jeans...
Um ok, we can call back in a bit? (little
bit too much information...)
No am good now.
(Carrying on)
We had so much fun, the highlights being the
ultimate Jacuzzi on the roof top and then as
the sun was rising a messy game of hide and
seek. Remember? You were there for.
Ha yes, Blaine came up trumps in that one...
You also DJed for Reclaim the Dancefloor
last year, what did you think of the party?
Do you prefer DJing or performing live?
Over the past few years the DJing thing has really
took off. I think having Erol Alkan produce our second
album really ignited our love of fat beats and dance
music, and the DJing thing followed suit. Will and I
have launched our DJ name recently Assassins of
Youth, I think we’re decent enough now to not need
ride off the back of the Jets name... Our sets are
damn electroey, so we really had a ball at Reclaim
and suited the party well. I think our hearts will always
be with the live performing, we’ve been doing it a
lot longer, but it’s really great we can do both!
What do you think of the expansion in
Indie and alternative music that Ibiza
Rocks has initiated on the island?
I think supporting live music can only be a great
thing. Ibiza is such a magical place, it’s brilliant
that it’s attracting new crowds to the island and it’s
wonderful for the bands, we get really spoiled...
When you’re hanging in Ibiza where’s
your favourite places to go?
Benirras is by far all of the Mystery Jets fave beach.
You’d kept going on about it for so long we thought
we’d better see what all the fuss was about. We went
after the party post gig, we’d had little sleep but it
was just incredible. Agnas Blancas was cool too,
watch out for all the naked hippies, we got some
really funny photos doing the mud bathing. By far
the best restaurant we’ve been to is La Paloma and
my favourite club night is Flowerpower. Great fun
party tunes and a really carnival type atmosphere.
Who’s your band to look out for in 2010?
There’s a band called French Wives who are
from Scotland that are great. They’re anthemic
folk, quite Belle and Sebastian vibe and
brilliant song writers, def check them out.
(At this point we hear Kai has popped to the
local shop as he orders a pint of milk. It’s a
rare day off as the Mystery Jets are back on
the touring circuit now the 3rd album has been
completed, so we relieve him of his duties.)
Thanks for talking to us Kai, see
you on the island very soon!
That you will, we’ll be over to DJ and I’ve booked a
holiday in September, I can’t wait to get back over!
Mystery Jets single’ Dreaming of another World’
and album ‘Serotonin’ both out 5th July.
Keep checking listings for dates when
Assassins of Youth will be DJing in Ibiza.

5 MINUTES WITH PETE
Scally caught up with Mr Doherty
himself for a post gig bevy.
Hi Pete, great to see you back! Does it feel
a bit like you’ve never been away?
Ha, this place has a way of making you feel
like that doesn’t it? Yeah, it is great to be
back, I think I’m going to stick around for a
couple of days, try and get some sun...
Brilliant acoustic. How was it for you?
Yeah great, really enjoyed it.
WHAT HAPPENS IN IBIZA STAY’S
REFLECTIONS OF IBIZA INTERVIEW WITH A MYSTERY JET IN IBIZA...
Roving reporter and DJ Tart With a
Heart calls Kai Fish, base player of the
Mystery Jets for a catch up...
Hi Kai you’ve played for Ibiza Rocks twice in
2008, at the hippodrome with the Wombats and
at the Ibiza Rocks hotel with Zane Lowe. What
were your best memories from these events?
I remember the location of the hippodrome was
amazing but we had so much fun at the hotel.
Honestly, I never realised Zane was such a great DJ, he
knows all the tricks. It was a fantastic atmosphere and
we had a crazy party in the Penthouse afterwards...
(At this point we hear muffled rustles, jangles,
We want to hear your most rock and roll moments,

Why?
BECAUSE I CAN’T AFFORD A FUCKING
