Cardinal Rigali on WISP 1570 AM
C
Dear Radio Family,
Holy Spirit Radio marked its 8th
anniversary on March 19, 2007, the Feast
of St. Joseph. I would like to share with
you some thoughts that St. Alphonsus
Liguori had on St. Joseph from his book
“The Glories of Mary”:
“Let us therefore never pass a day without many times recommending ourselves
to Saint Joseph who, after the most
Blessed Virgin Mary, is the most powerful
of all the Saints with God. Let us never
allow a day to pass without offering him
some particular prayer; but especially
during the novena for his feast, let us redouble our prayers, and fast on the vigil;
and let us seek from him the graces which
are useful for our souls; for he will always
obtain them for us. In particular, I exhort
you to ask for three special graces: for
the forgiveness of your sins, the love of
Jesus Christ, and a good death.
As to the forgiveness of sins, I thus argue; when Jesus Christ lived in this world
in the house of Saint Joseph, could a sinner who desired to obtain the forgiveness
of his sins from our Lord, have found a
more efficacious means to obtain this
consolation than through Saint Joseph?
If, then we desire to be pardoned by God,
let us have recourse to Saint Joseph,
who, now that he is in heaven, is more
loved by Jesus Christ than he was loved
by Him on earth.”

n a time when immorality is the norm and men’s
role as protector has diminished, it falls on strong
men to stand for God. Mark Houck is doing just that. Houck
was recognized at the 2006 Stand Up for Life Dinner with
the Chastity Award for his courageous example and his work
as a chastity educator with Generation Life. He still speaks
for Generation Life, but left his full-time position last summer to co-found a men’s apostolate, The King’s Men, dedicated to educating and forming men to be leaders, protectors
and providers. The King’s Men radio show began airing on
Holy Spirit Radio in July of 2006 and guests have included
Fr. Philip Chavez, Molly Kelly and Dr. Philip Mango. 2nd

Upgrades and Improvements
Playing From
the Heart
Thanks to the generosity of our Radio Family, especially
those who opened their hearts during last fall’s Radiothon, we have
been able to make some needed upgrades and improvements.
We’ve added two new computers to better run our website’s online
listening and audio archive features. A new laptop computer was
also acquired and it was first used to record the Christmas Concert
at St. Charles Seminary in 2006.
On the programming end, local news spots have been added and we’re airing more announcements than ever, keeping you up
to date on local Catholic events. Upcoming improvements will hopefully include a new satellite dish to replace our outdated one (left).
Thanks for your help and your continued prayers and support!
WISP Live has hosted
many national speakers and wellknown authors and musicians. But
none as enthusiastic and moving
as Stephano Nocero. Stephano
and his family shared his musical
talents and talked about how they
came to see his Down’s Syndrome
as a blessing. Hear the program at

Archbishop John Foley
On Holy Spirit Radio
I
t was a very special visit when the President of Social
Communications for the Vatican came to Holy Spirit Radio on September 1, 2006 as a guest on the Vocation Hour with Fr.
Chris Rogers. Archbishop John Foley was ordained a priest for the
Diocese of Philadelphia by Cardinal Krol in 1962 and was ordained
a bishop and appointed as President of Social Communications for
the Roman Curia in 1984. “I’m convinced that we have to communicate the Word and the love of God,” said the Archbishop. “It’s
wonderful that WISP is involved in this because there’s no message
more important than where we’re going and how to get there.”

ne of the treasures of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia
is the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul.
Many have been moved by the beauty and breadth of the building,
artwork and stained glass. But few realize that it also contains a
very high-tech state-of-the-art audio and visual room that is used to
provide news outlets live feeds of important Masses and events.
On the Feast Day of St. Katherine Drexel, March 3, 2006,
Holy Spirit Radio began airing Masses live from the Cathedral.
Since then, our radio family has also heard the Mass of Priestly
Ordination and Bishop Daniel Thomas’ Ordination Mass.
In 2007, WISP aired the Holy Thursday Chrism Mass live
and plans to air the Ordination Mass in May. Holy Spirit Radio
thanks Donna Farrell and Fr. Dan Kearns at the Office for Communications for helping to make these live broadcasts possible.
Also this year, for the first time WISP aired the St. John
Neumann Feast Day Mass live from the Shrine on January 5th.

• The Radiothon was a great success thanks to the generous
hearts of our WISP radio family and the hard work of all the
volunteers who made it possible. The funds raised totaled almost
$98,000, praise God! Perhaps most exciting is the fact that almost
half the callers were first time donors. Yearly expenses at WISP
total $150,000, but the 2006 Radiothon went a long way to ensuring another year of Catholic Radio.
• Volunteer Spotlight You might not recognize her picture
(right), but if you listen to Holy Spirit Radio you’ve certainly
heard Genevieve Ingraldi’s soothing voice doing announcements. Genevieve has been generously volunteering at WISP
since 2005. If you’d like to help, call 215-345-1570.
Our goal at Holy Spirit Radio is to “proclaim the Good News
to all creation” (Mk 16:15.) And
“all creation” starts in your back
yard, or in this case in your parish.
We are launching a new Catholic
Radio Rep program that will help to
spread the word about WISP. The
Radio Rep will, with the permission
of the pastor, put out schedules
and newsletters in appropriate
areas in the back of churches, chapels and parish centers once every
few months. Can you help?

Letters From Listeners
Thanks for the wonderful job you are doing at
WISP. It still shocks me that Catholics in this area are not
aware that you exist. Today after Mass, I had an opportunity
to expound the benefits of 1570 AM and EWTN to a couple.
They admitted to reading our bumper sticker on the back of
the car, but never tuned in - but starting today you will have
new listeners. Praise be to God!
In His Love,
Gloria
I just wanted to say a great big ‘Thank You’ to everyone at WISP for your
apostolate. Although I never left the Catholic Church, I experienced a long struggle with doubt
and uncertainty. When our last Holy Father died, something changed for me. The secular
media coverage of his death and the election of Pope Benedict infuriated me - but it also led
me to discover EWTN and Catholic Radio.
Finding this community of faith has been such a blessing to me. Joy has returned
to my spiritual life. I have a long commute to work, but I look forward to it because I can
listen to Holy Spirit Radio.
God Bless You All!
