Under the old covenant there was the showbread, but
it came to an end with the old dispensation to which
it belonged. Under the new covenant there is Bread

2016 Annual Diocesan Appeal
Have you made a pledge for the 2016 Annual Diocesan
Appeal? There is still time. A gift to the ADA, large or
small, can go a long way. Consider a one-time gift or a
monthly pledge for six months. There are envelopes in
the vestibule / pews. Every dollar raised to make our
goal supports important diocesan ministries, and every
dollar raised over our goal will be kept in the parish.
To date, we have received 194 gifts/pledges totaling
$45,305.00 towards our goal of $46,140.00. To those
who have pledged, thank you!
If you have recently lost a loved
one,

through your grieving process.
Please call the rectory at 815-5386151 to let us know - we want

HOLY CROSS RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
MAY 22, 2016
Today we are celebrating the Solemnity of the Most Holy
Trinity. With the celebration of Pentecost last week, we have
officially closed the Easter season for this liturgical year,
and have entered into Ordinary Time once again. The
Solemnity we celebrate today however is no “ordinary”
feast. We are being called to contemplate the mystery of the
Blessed Trinity.
How can God, as one Supreme Being also be comprised
of three distinct persons?
As you can see from
this diagram, it is indeed
possible. Consider this
loving relationship
between Father, Son, and
Holy Spirit. Each One is
God, and yet each is a
singular and distinct
Being (Person). It could
be said that this is the
original Holy Family.
God is eternal, and
consequently that also means that each of these Persons is
eternal.
God the Father has no beginning and will have no end;
likewise God the Son, and God the
Holy Spirit. As you can see from the diagram the Father
is NOT the Son, the Son is NOT the
Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit is NOT the Father and so on…
and yet each is still God!
If you consider the Omniscience (all knowing),
Omnipresence (present everywhere at the same time), and
Omnipotence (all powerful) of God in all His glory, you can
get an idea of the limitlessness of the nature of God.
An analogy could be a family in that, it is comprised of
multiple persons, i.e., father, mother, child(ren). Though
each person is separate and distinct they are all members of
the one family. Another analogy could be a corporate board
that is also comprised of separate and distinct individuals.
One other analogy for you sports fans could be that of the
team. Each member of the team, whether coach, player,
trainer, etc., is working for the same goal.
In the case of our God, that goal is the goodness and love
and so many other things that we attribute to God. We know
God as all Merciful, all Truth, Creator, Advocate, Guide,
Physician, LORD, Comforter, King of kings, Salt and Light,
and so many other good things, many more than we can list.
The Holy Trinity works with the goal of bringing us, their
creation, into an eternal life relationship with Father, Son
and Holy Spirit in One God.

THE SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY
And get this, God is not a god among gods, He is THE God
over and above any lesser god. Who, or more appropriately,
what is another god? In America it’s very easy for us to
worship our possessions - to the point that we care more
for them than we do for our own relationship with Him who
created us in the first place. There is the god of self - have
you ever heard the phrase “lookin’ out for number 1”?
There is the god of entertainment; this god would keep us
from fulfilling our duties and obligations set before us by
the One True God. This list could go on, but I think you have
the idea…
†  †  †
I like to include this meditation with the understanding of
the Trinity simply because my understanding of the Trinity
led me into this meditation, as I gazed at the “All Seeing Eye”
whenever I would pray the Our Father or the Glory Be.
This meditation is simple, but if you consider the
triangular symbolism used for understanding the Trinity,
combined with the All Seeing Eye, you can see how I was led
into this line of thinking as I meditated while praying to the
Trinity.
Meditation on the “Glory Be”
Glory be to the Father
And to the Son
And to the Holy Spirit
As it was in the beginning
Is now
And ever shall be,
world without end
Amen
God is from the Beginning, but we know that He sent His
Son. And from the Father and the Son proceeds the Holy
Spirit, that is, the wind, or breath of their Love. So as God IS
from the Beginning, so is the Father from the Beginning (top
of the triangle).
As previously mentioned, we know that God the Father sent
His Son (lower right corner of the triangle). And from the
Father and the Son proceeds the Holy Spirit (lower left
corner of the triangle).
So as I was saying this prayer, my eye began to follow
around the triangle in a clockwise manner beginning at the
top. The when I got to the second half of the prayer, my eye
began to travel counter-clockwise; As it was (with God) in
the Beginning, Is now (because Christ had sent the Holy
Spirit to guide us until He—Christ—comes again), and will
be forever (because Christ the King reigns for eternity)
world without end (as we look toward the Hope of the
promise of the new heavenly city-the new Jerusalem). Amen!

Mercy’s Gaze:
Quotes from the Dairy of St. Faustina
The Powers of Darkness Flee
When I entered the chapel for a moment, the Lord said
to me, My daughter, help Me to save a
certain dying sinner. Say the chaplet that I have
taught you for him. When I began to say the chaplet,
I saw the man dying in the midst of terrible torment and
struggle. His Guardian Angel was defending him, but he
was, as it were, powerless against the enormity of the
soul’s misery. A multitude of devils was waiting for the
soul. But while I was saying the chaplet, I saw Jesus just
as He is depicted in the image. The rays which issued
from Jesus’ Heart enveloped the sick man, and the
powers of darkness fled in panic.
The sick man
peacefully breathed his last. When I came to myself, I
understood how very important the chaplet was for the
dying. It appeases the anger of God (Diary, 1565).

St. Mary's Altar Society
We closed our year with a delicious dinner and brief
meeting on May 12th. Our thanks go to Doug Barr,
"chief cook and bottle washer", at the Elks Lodge and the
society's committee for their successful efforts. An
added bonus was that we were able to share the evening
with Fr. Bo on his birthday. We wish to thank him also
for his strong support of St. Mary's Altar Society during
his time here at Holy Cross Church.
Our next meeting will be Sept. 8th with renewal of
membership dues ($10.00) and installation of officers for
2016-2017. Future bulletins will keep you posted. All
women of the parish are invited to join us in our mission:
serving all the related needs of the altar.
FYI: Due to food allergies, in the future, we have been
asked to omit ALL forms of NUTS in salads and desserts
furnished for funeral dinners. Thank you.
