OCTOBER 26-30, 2016 SHERWOOD COUNTRY CLUB, THOUSAND OAKS, CA Experience the Legends of the Game Don’t miss the first ever PGA TOUR Champions playoff event, October 26-30th at Sherwood Country Club. 72 of the best to have ever played the game will battle for supremacy at one of the most picturesque settings in golf. Take advantage of this special opportunity. Sherwood Country Club Like the ancient oaks that enhance the community, Sherwood’s deep historical and cultural roots are equally fascinating. Long before the land was purchased in 1984, Sherwood already had many historic landmarks. Lake Sherwood, originally Potrero Lake, is the oldest man-made lake in California. It was changed to Lake Sherwood when the surrounding areas, used for the filming of “Robin Hood” starring Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., in 1921, became known as “Sherwood Forest” and “Maid Marian Park.” The golf course was formally opened on October 30, 1989. This Jack Nicklaus Signature design fits perfectly into a stunning natural setting. Sherwood Country Club has hosted many of the world’s best players including Greg Norman and the Shark Shootout, and the Tiger Woods World Challenge. Sherwood spans approximately 1,965 acres of picturesque natural beauty. The vision of Sherwood is embodied in the Country Club’s philosophy: “A reverence for family, a respect for nature, a love for history and a deep loyalty to high standards of quality.” “Since the day the golf course opened, I like to think Sherwood has looked like it has been there for 100 years. One of the reasons is the property itself. This was one of the more magnificent pieces of land I’ve had the opportunity on which to design a golf course. It is rare to see a piece of property that is so private, with so much natural beauty. Another reason is the oak trees, which are absolutely sensational.” – Jack Nicklaus "Together, anything's possible" Since inception, the PGA TOUR has surpassed $2 billion in all-time charitable giving. The TOUR and its more than 100 tournaments achieved the milestone just over eight years after announcing the first billion was reached in October 2005, 67 years after the first $10,000 donation was recorded at the 1938 Palm Beach Invitational. “We take this opportunity to acknowledge this landmark achievement and to thank our tournaments for the outstanding work they do in support of their respective communities every year by supporting over 3,000 local and national charitable organizations,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem. “At the same time, this is a threshold that we are simply passing as we continue to strive to increase the PGA TOUR’s charitable impact.” Unlike any other professional sports organization, the PGA TOUR relies on more than 100,000 volunteers annually to run its tournaments, and the vast majority of its tournaments are structured as non-profit organizations designed to donate 100 percent of net proceeds to charity. Community beneficiaries include a wide variety of organizations including hospitals, youth development organizations, growth-of- the-game programs and food banks. The PGA TOUR Champions The PGA TOUR Champions announced the tournament schedule for the 2016 season, which includes the inaugural Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs, a three-tournament, season-ending competition to determine the Charles Schwab Cup Champion. The 2016 schedule features 26 tournaments in 19 different states and three countries outside the United States with total prize money exceeding $55 million and an average purse of $2.1 million. Two of three Charles Schwab Cup Playoff events are new tournaments. The PowerShares QQQ Championship, to be held at Sherwood Country Club on Oct. 24-30, will be the first Playoff event. The Dominion Charity Classic, set for Richmond’s Country Club of Virginia James River Course on Oct. 31-Nov. 6, will be the second Playoff event. The Charles Schwab Cup Championship, the traditional season-ending event at Desert Mountain Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. on Nov. 7-13, will be the third and final Playoff tournament.
