Paul Galan-Holocaust Survivor Visits TMS Welcome Our New
Welcome Our New Principal!
By: Alia Munn and Ohnyu Che
Mr. John Fabbo, principal of Mackay School for the past twelve years has accepted
a new challenge this September when he becomes the new principal of Tenafly Middle
School. Tiger Tales reporters recently interviewed Mr. Fabbo to learn more about him and
his feelings about being an administrator in the Middle School. He graciously shared some
information about himself. Mr. Fabbo shared that he is very excited to become principal of
T.M.S and he looks forward to seeing some of his former students again. Mr. Fabbo is an
experienced educator who has a deep love for the teaching profession. He previously taught
second, fourth and fifth grade students and also served in the role of an assistant principal prior to
becoming principal in Mackay School. In his new role as principal of TMS, he hopes to create a positive
school spirit in the middle school, along with helping students enjoy their experiences here. Mr. Fabbo also
shared that the process of applying for the position as principal of TMS was challenging in and of itself
because of a busy schedule and his responsibilities as Mackay School principal. However, as much as he
will miss the elementary school, his current students and all the people he has worked with in Mackay, he
is excited and so looking forward to his new position and role.
When Mr, Fabbo has some down time, the hobby he enjoys is fishing. He also likes the color
purple and his favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. Mr. Fabbo is the father of two boys; one in eleventh grade
and one a seventh grade student. Finally, when asked for how TMS students can help him adjust to his
new position and how he wants to approach his role, Mr. Fabbo stated- “I hope that all of the TMS students
help me become successful and I want them to tell me what they love about TMS and give me any ideas to
make it better.”
Welcome to TMS, Mr. Fabbo, and we wish you much success as our new principal!
Paul Galan-Holocaust Survivor Visits TMS
By: Emi Canlas & Julia Mei
On Wednesday, June 3, 2015 T.M.S sixth graders were treated to a very special assembly that
dovetailed with their study of the Holocaust. Mr. Paul Galan, a Holocaust survivor, came to TMS and
shared his story about his life during that time. This was his fourth visit to our school to speak to the
students. He talked about his experiences during the Holocaust when he was a little boy. His life story had
some similarities to Ms. Sender's story, author of The Cage, which the sixth graders were reading as they
studied the Holocaust in Language Arts class.
Mr. Galan shared that he was born into a wealthy family that ran a grain company and distributed
grain products to other parts of his country. When the Nazis came to Czechoslovakia, they lived in fear
wondering if they would be deported because they were Jewish. Paul’s father did all he could to try and
save his family from this fate. He convinced most of his family to study Christianity and convert. He secured
papers that stated they were not Jewish and he located a secret hiding place to live. Unfortunately, their
family was betrayed by a business associate who reported them to the German authorities. Their hiding
place was found and the family was about to be deported when an uncle of Paul’s secured their release.
Once they were released, Paul’s father realized they had to leave the country and the family went into the
mountains in order to hide from the Nazis. Mr. Galan shared many stories of close calls of almost being
found by the German authorities during that time. They also lost track of Paul’s sisters, who they were
miraculously reunited with later on.
Mr. Galan had each of us sitting on the edge of our chairs as he shared all the challenges and
difficulties his various family members went through. It was important for us to hear from a man who
actually lived through this horrible period in time. However, he not only told us his story; he also taught us
a valuable lesson in life. We learned from him that even when events seem their darkest, it is important not
to give up hope. His family went through extreme hardships, but along the way, there were people they met
who helped them and showed compassion even if they were dressed in Nazi uniform. Mr. Galan also
wanted his message to us to be that one should never hate anyone, but always find the best in others and
look forward to the future.
At the end of the assembly, Mr. Galan graciously answered questions from our students about his
life experiences. Mr. Galan’s inspiring and meaningful words will be long remembered by all of us. Thank
you to our Language Arts teachers for arranging this special assembly, and to Mr. Paul Galan for sharing
his family’s story with us. We will always remember the day you came to speak to us in T.M.S. as well as
your message of hope, concern and care for one another.

Ten Things You Might Not Have Known
About Tenafly
By: Maia Liakhovitski
We all probably think of Tenafly as our small,
little, quiet town, but that might really prove not to be the
case after you read this article.
1. The name Tenafly derives from the Old Dutch “Tiene
Vly,” meaning ten swamps. Clearly, this was a
swampy area when they got here, but there does not
seem to be any evidence of that remaining here today
beside the town’s funny name.
2. Glenn Miller (1904-1944), bandleader of the famous
“Big Band,” was born and lived in Tenafly for most of
his life.
3. Yogi Berra (1925-), the famous manager of the
Yankees, lived in Tenafly also. Other Yankee players
that lived in Tenafly include Jesse Barfield (1959-)
(outfielder, and also outfielder for the Toronto Blue
Jays), Tino Martinez (1967-) (first baseman), and Don
Mattingly (1961-) (later first baseman and coach of
Los Angeles Dodgers).
4. Peter Balakian (1951-), famous author and speaker on
the topic of the Armenian Genocide, grew up here, as
well. He now lives in New York and teaches at Colgate
University. On May 9th, he came to speak at
Womrath’s, the bookstore in town on Washington
Street.
5. Jay Huguley (1966-), TV and movie actor, was born
and raised in Tenafly. He is most famous for playing
the role of Whit Peyton on “Brothers and Sisters.”
6. Lea Michele (1986-), most famous for being in the role
of Rachel Berry in “Glee,” lived in Tenafly during her
childhood and teenage years.
7. George Price (1901-1995), former New Yorker
cartoonist, lived most of his life here in Tenafly.
8. Mira Sorvino (1967-), winner of the Academy Award
for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Woody
Allen’s “Mighty Aphrodite,” and her father, Paul
Sorvino, also an actor, both lived in Tenafly.
9. Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815-1902), leader of the
women’s rights movement, was born and lived in
Tenafly. Her home here was declared a national
historic landmark in 1975.
10. John Huyler (1808-1870), representative of New
Jersey’s Fourth Congressional
District in the House of
Representatives, also grew up in
Tenafly.
Ms. Dwyer Interview
By: Lauren Hesselson
I recently interviewed Ms. Dwyer who is a social
worker at TMS. She told me some interesting things about
herself. Before Ms. Dwyer started working at Tenafly, she
counseled children in New York City. Ms. Dwyer started
working in Tenafly in 2012. She worked at Mackay School
for one year before she came to TMS. Ms. Dwyer came to
work in Tenafly because she wanted to work closer to home,
which is Teaneck.
Social workers do many things. As a school social
worker, Ms. Dwyer helps students be successful and
achieve their goals, as well as make sure that they’re getting
any kind of special help they might need. Before working in
a school setting, Ms. Dwyer also worked in domestic
violence shelters
Ms. Dwyer’s favorite parts about being a social
worker is getting to know the students and their families.
She enjoys helping students find ways to overcome
obstacles, achieve their goals, and be successful. What Ms.
Dwyer does not like about being a social worker is the huge
amount of paperwork she needs to do. When I asked Ms.
Dwyer who helped her get this far, she said that she had
many different supervisors and coworkers who believed in
her, taught her a lot of things, and gave her opportunities to
improve. She also credits her family for always being very
kind and supportive.
Ms. Dwyer loves to read when she can. She spends
a lot of time coaching a softball team in her free time. In
addition, she serves on the board of directors for the
Teaneck junior soccer league. Ms. Dwyer likes to travel and
does so often with her family.
When I asked Ms. Dwyer what advice she has for
students, she said, “Believe in yourself, do your best, and
don’t be afraid to ask for help.” Thank you for sharing this
idea with TMS students! We are happy to have you here.
How to clean your locker: Without
Throwing away your Important Stuff
By: Michelle Dai
It’s almost that time of the year – time
to clean your locker! Yep, I know, you’ve
been dreading this day ever since you saw
that sock sticking out from under your
science binder in your locker. The best way
to start is to take EVERTHING out of your
locker - carefully! This lets you have a whole
new clean locker to start with! Now, any loose papers might
be good material to be thrown away, but check to make sure
they’re not valuable to you before getting rid of them. Now,
empty out your binders one by one. If the binder is broken,
then just throw it out. But wait! The papers INSIDE your
binders might be important, so think about how you feel
about those papers, and if you’re not sure, make sure to ask
your teacher about it. When you finish this process, you can
go ahead and take all the binders that are in reusable
condition, important papers, and other random items that
you can use at home. Try not to break your back!

Number the Stars: Book Review
Star Wars Rebels
Author: Lois Lowry
By: Jim Mikulsky
By: Yunji Lee
Number the Stars by
Lois Lowry is a book about two
friends, Ann Marie Johansen
and Ellen Rosen. This is an
historical fiction story about one
of the darkest events in human
history: the Holocaust. One day
in the streets of Copenhagen,
Denmark, Ann Marie and Ellen
were racing down the street until
they met a Nazi soldier who
stopped them. Back in the days
of the Holocaust, Denmark and
many other European countries
around Germany were occupied
by the S.S. Nazi party. That was the beginning of
change for Ellen Rosen. She had no idea at the time
that Nazi soldiers would hunt down people for their
religion. Ellen Rosen was a Jewish girl. Back then,
being Jewish was about to become the biggest threat
that one could imagine. At first, the Nazis wanted to
relocate all the Jews and take them away. People just
thought that their neighbors were disappearing and they
had no idea where their neighbors were taken. Luckily,
Mr. Johansen knew that something was wrong before
Ellen and her family were going to be taken away. The
Johansen family came up with a plan to get the Rosen
family to safety. This is a thrilling, yet suspenseful novel
that describes one of the most tragic historical events
that people have ever seen. The book is not that long,
but one can learn a lot about the Holocaust. Does the
Rosen family finally make it to safety? What happens to
the Johansen family? To find out, read Lois Lowry’s
Newberry award winning book: Number the Stars.
If you like the author’s style of writing, there are
some other books you might also enjoy such as The
Giver, Messenger, and Son. A reminder is that The
Giver should probably be read before Son. I hope you
take my advice.
The Cage: Book Review
Author: Ruth Minsky Sender
By: Nicole Selick
In the book The Cage, a Jewish
Holocaust survivor recalls her memories
about the war starting from 1939 in Lodz,
Poland. Riva, the narrator, her family, and
all the other Polish Jews were relocated
into the ghetto by the Nazis. Riva’s
mother was taken away by the Nazis
because they recognized that she looked
sick. What are the Nazis going to do next
to all the Jews in the ghetto and Riva’s
family? Read The Cage to learn about a
true story of a girl named Riva and her
family during the Holocaust.
Star Wars Rebels is a movie and a television show. It is an
exciting show that came out on October 3, 2014. It consists of 13
episodes. The show takes place after the Clone Wars, but is during
the Empire Era. The clones turn evil, they kill Jedi and the Jedi are
sent to exile. This show is about a band of Rebels fighting back
against the Empire. The people who made the Clone Wars show
stopped creating the Clone Wars and replaced it with Rebels.
One of the good guys is Ezra Bridger, a kid who becomes a
Jedi Knight. He is 13 and a farmer. He hates the Empire because the
Emperor is an evil Sith. Storm troopers are sent to kill him, but Kahan
rescues him. So Ezra follows him and now fights the Empire while
learning to be a Jedi. Kahan Jarrus, is a Jedi Knight, and Ezra’s
Master. He survived Order 66. Order 66 was when the Sith turn the
clones against the Jedi and destroys the Jedi and the Separatists. All
remaining Jedi end up in exile. Another character is Sabine Wren, a
Mandalorian rebel and she hates the Empire. The Rebels influence
Sabine to join the Rebellion. She is a very nice warrior. She helps
Ezra build his lightsaber and gives him tools. She’s a close friend to
Ezra. Hera Syndulla is a twi-lek; she is nice, but a little hotheaded
character with green skin. She pilots their ship, the Ghost. Zeb
Orielius, is a Lasat, who is tough and also a Rebel. He likes to joke
around with Ezra. His rifle can be an electrostaff, he can take a hit,
fight well, and is tough like a Wookiee. He hates the Empire because
they killed his people and Zeb wants to avenge them. Chopper,
another character in the show is a droid, who is friends with Kahan
and they travel together. He is a good, brave, guard droid that
protects the ship. He is loyal to the rebels and he also provides the
comic relief.
C-3PO and R2-D2 are in every Star Wars film. C-3PO is a
loyal scared protocol droid and R2 is a loyal brave astromech droid,
who can breathe in space. Both are on the Rebel side. They help
good guys, serve others but, don’t travel with Ezra.
The bad guys are as follows: Darth Vader is a Sith Lord who
is an apprentice to Darth Sidious. They fear him second to Sidious
and Vader commands the Empire. He doesn’t like Jedi and doesn’t
want the Old Republic to come back. He’s evil and hates failure. He
kills people who fail him. The Inquisitor is another Sith Lord working
for Vader. He battles Ezra and Kahan. His mission is to hunt down
Jedi and he is loyal to the Empire. He has dark side powers and uses
the Force. He builds his own lightsaber that spins with blades. Agent
Kallus, is an Imperial commander, he does the Empire’s bidding. He
also has a rifle that is an electrostaff. Agent Kallus, hunts Jedi, like
the Inquisitor, but does not have the Force and is not a Sith Lord. He
battles Zeb on the show and almost kills Zeb, but Ezra rescues him.
The Empire was originally the Republic, but Darth Sidious
wanted to destroy it. He secretly formed the Separatists and
controlled the clones so he led both sides of the conflict. He gained
power and ordered the Jedi to be killed. He proclaimed himself
Emperor and made an Imperial Senate, but some senators rebelled.
The Emperor destroyed the Republic, and he became an evil dictator
who planned to destroy the Rebellion.
One should watch Star Wars Rebels because it is fun, cool
and even funny. The Jedi are peacekeepers. The message of the
show is “Don’t live under tyranny.” I would like to see the Empire fall
and The Republic restored. They fight for the good of the Republic
and want to restore peace. Everyone should get peace.
Star Wars Rebels is on Disney XD Channel. Be sure to
catch up before Season 2 comes out on June 20, 2015. It’s a good
way to start the summer and I highly
recommend it.

Top 10 Cartoon Friends
By: Joshua Pyun
These guys may not be real, but their friendships definitely seem to be real and truly entertaining. Today, I’m counting down my
picks for the top 10 friends in animation. In this list, I will rank the friends in animation by their friendships and what their personalities are like,
so let the list begin!
10. Stan Marsh, Kyle Brofloski, Eric Cartman, and Kenny McCormick: South Park
Kicking off the list are the swearing and arguing boys from the town of South Park, Colorado. Although these guys are friends, they
don’t act like this - especially Kyle and Cartman. Those two can never get along because Cartman has something against Jews. During the
run of the show, these boys have been going on crazy adventures, and in those adventures, they often get into fights. Sadly, when the
adventure’s over, they still don’t learn the importance of friendship. However, when these guys are fighting, they’re really entertaining.
9. Shrek and Donkey: Shrek Franchise
These fairytale creatures are one of the most recognizable duos in movies. Despite being inseparable brothers, they are different in
many ways. Shrek is a grumpy ogre that no one is comfortable with, while Donkey is an eccentric dude people would definitely like. I like
these two because even though they keep getting into fights, they make a pretty good team. I think that Donkey is the greatest friend to have
because he always makes jokes and says a lot of good things.
8. Woody and Buzz Lightyear: Toy Story Franchise
This is what happens when George Lucas and Steven Spielberg mix up their most famous movie franchises. It’s the unlikely teamup of a spaceman and a cowboy. In the first Toy Story, these guys don’t get along too well. They compete over their owner, Andy, and
eventually get lost in some other kid’s backpack. When desperate times call for desperate measures, Woody and Buzz eventually work
together to escape and become best friends. In later Toy Story media, these two are often seen sticking with each other, and going through
thick and thin. They’ve definitely got a friendship between them.
8. Snoopy and Woodstock: Peanuts
These guys are another example of friends who can’t get along. In some of the Peanuts specials, they always seem to get into petty
squabbles with each other. Despite their differences, they still do get along sometimes. Whether it’s trying to build a new birdhouse or trying
to make a meal, these guys are usually working together to make it happen. So what if one of them can’t keep being serious?
7. Mordecai and Rigby: Regular Show
Mordecai and Rigby are like college roommates. They both like playing video games, drinking sodas, and slacking off. Whenever
they have the chance, these two slack off and rarely finish their work. Sometimes I don’t even know why Mordecai is friends with Rigby. He
can never finish his job, and he always gets others into trouble. But even though these two keep getting into fights, they’re still good friends.
Now if only they would be better workers…
6. Mac and Bloo: Foster’s home for Imaginary Friends
Anyone who thinks imaginary friends aren’t real friends hasn’t watched “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends.” Before Bloo moved
to Foster’s Home, he and Mac would work together to make Mac’s older brother get into trouble while having fun doing it. Even after Bloo
moves to a foster home, these guys still need to hang out and have an awesome time. Even though Bloo would sometimes drive Mac insane
with his silliness, they still got along and had a great time at Foster’s.
5. Fry and Bender: Futurama
This is the friendship of the future. After 20th century delivery boy, Phillip J. Fry, ends up in the year, 3000, he instantly becomes
friends with a booze-chugging, chain-smoking robot with Bender Bending Rodriguez, despite his disloyal nature, and evil tendencies. Later
on, they become roommates and employees at Planet Express. Although being friends with a robot sounds cool, it’s actually kind of crazy.
Bender is an evil, selfish, greedy thief who has dreams of killing humans. He’s one robot that no one would ever want to hang out with. But
thanks to Fry’s naive nature, he makes the perfect friend for a robot like Bender, especially since he’s easy to manipulate.
4. Bart Simpson and Milhouse Van Housten: The Simpsons
If you’re smart, you’d know that being friends with Bart automatically lead to trouble. But if you’re a loser who has poor social skills,
you’d be buddies with him in a second. Bart and MIlhouse are like any typical friends in 4 th grade. They enjoy eating snacks, playing video
games, and playing pranks. But although these two are friends, Bart sometimes takes advantage of Milhouse’s loyalty and naiveté to pull of
his pranks. He also put him on the FBI’s most wanted list. Nevertheless, Milhouse still stays loyal to Bart and he couldn’t be happier.
3. Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble: The Flintstones
They’re one of the most memorable duos in animation. In the prehistoric city of Bedrock, Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble spend
their time eating Bronto-Burgers, going bowling, and stirring up crazy schemes to get what they want. Fred is a greedy and lazy caveman
who would be lost without the help from his loyal friend, Barney Rubble. Even though Fred and Barney are good pals, the do get into fights
like other cartoon pals, especially if it’s about cereal.
2. SpongeBob and Patrick: SpongeBob SquarePants
These inverte-brats have been BFFs since Spongebob moved to Bikini Bottom. They share the same interests: Jellyfishing, bubbleblowing, eating ice cream, reading comic books, and annoying their grumpy neighbor, Squidward. SpongeBob and Patrick have been going
on many aquatic adventures. From reuniting their favorite superheroes, to selling chocolate bars, they’ve been through it all together.
#1. Finn and Jake
Finn and Jake are one of my favorite characters because of their loyalty to each other. These brothers live in the post-apocalyptic
Land of Ooo in their treehouse. When they’re not saving princesses or fighting bad guys, they play video games with their computer friend,
BMO. These two have earned this #1 spot because they treat each other with respect, they’re always there for help, and they do awesome
fist bumps for the fun of it.
So that’s my list of top 10 friends in cartoons, hope you enjoyed it!

Top 10 Cartoon Dads
By: Josh Pyun
If you think your dad is kooky, wait until you get a load of these dads. Hi! I’m Josh, and I’m going to count
down my list for the top 10 cartoon dads on TV. For this list, I’ll be counting down my favorite dads in cartoons. It
doesn’t matter if they’re not the greatest dads, but I’ll still include them because of how funny and entertaining they are to watch.
10. Richard Watterson (The Amazing World of Gumball)- This guy may be a grown-up, but he still acts like a child. Richard Watterson
is Gumball’s goofy, dimwitted, and childish dad. Instead of having a job, he spends most of his time playing videogames and watching TV.
He’s not very good at giving advice, since he doesn’t really think about what he says. Even though he isn’t very responsible, he’s also a
cool parent that lets you do whatever you want. Just ask him to get a job; he’ll just mess up the universe by getting one.
9. Greg Universe (Steven Universe)- Greg Universe may be an ordinary guy, but his life is anything but ordinary. After having a romantic
relationship with his magical girlfriend, Rose, he later ran the car wash and looked after their magical son, Steven. Greg’s different than
Richard. He’s definitely good with advice, and he’s a pro at the guitar. He may not interact with his son a lot, but he really loves Steven and
does anything he can to make him feel better.
8. Stan Smith (American Dad)- Stan is a Republican who spends most of his time going on missions with his CIA buddies. While Stan has
saved his country on more than one occasion, he’s not very good at being a dad. He almost never listens to his wife. He’s also
embarrassed of his nerdy son, Steve, and doesn’t approve of his daughter’s hippie ways. Stan may be a little violent and insensitive at
times, but in the end, he usually makes up for it.
7. Randy Marsh (South Park)- Randy Marsh is Stan and Shelly’s dad who is the show’s dingbat. He works as a geologist and has done
many weird things in the show which were stupid, crazy, or just plain weird. From starting his own cook show to pretending to be female
performer, Lorde, Randy is definitely one of the weirdest dads on this list, if not the dumbest.
6. Bob Belcher (Bob’s Burgers)- Bob Belcher is the owner of a failing burger diner called “Bob’s Burgers”, which has poor management
and an unlucky streak. Even though he’s bad at business, he’s still a good fry cook and a pretty decent father. His kids and wife may drive
him nuts a lot of the time, but he’s always there for them when they need help. Even though he doesn’t always save the day, he’s still a
good father that can make a great burger.
5. Hank Hill (King of the Hill)- Hank Hill is one of the calmest dads on TV, if not the most popular. While Hank rarely gets angry at
anybody in his family, he has a hard time relating to his son, Bobby, due to his awkwardness. When he’s not trying to interact with his son,
he spends his time drinking beer with his pals in alleys, tending to his lawn, selling propane, and watching football. He’s basically every dad
in Texas.
4. George Jetson (The Jetsons)- George Jetson resides in Orbit City in the year 2066, where he works at Spacely Sprockets, a large
futuristic company. When he’s not working for his short-tempered boss, he’s dealing with his boy, Elroy; daughter, Judy; Jane, his wife; and
dog, Astro. George is a well-meaning father who does care for his family, but sometimes he gets really stressed with problems both with his
family and job. Whatever the problem, George always comes through as a great dad.
3. Fred Flintstone (The Flintstones)- Fred Flintstone is one of the most memorable cartoon dads on TV. He’s like a prehistoric version of
Ralph Kramden from “the Honeymooners”. He’s loud, lazy, has a large appetite and is always coming up with get rich quick schemes. He’s
also into bowling, and attending meetings at the Water Buffalo Club. When he’s not getting into trouble with his schemes, he’s spending
time with his wife, pet dinosaur, and cute daughter Pebbles, whom he loves very much. Although he may be a hard rock, he does have a
soft side.
2. Peter Griffin (Family Guy)- Peter Griffin may be a rip-off of Homer Simpson, but he’s still a very popular TV dad. Peter spends most of
his time drinking and going on adventures with his buddies rather than paying attention to his kids. He may be a dad, but that doesn’t mean
he’s a great one. After all, he rarely ever spends time with Stewie, doesn’t spend much time with his son, Chris, and has taunted his
teenage daughter, Meg, on more than one occasion. But despite all this, he’s still a pretty funny dad, being that he’s always getting into
crazy shenanigans.
1. Homer Simpson (The Simpsons)- Behold: The king of all cartoon dads! Homer Simpsons stands out as one of the most popular
cartoon dad of all time. After a hard day at the Nuclear Power Plant, Homer spends his time either at Moe’s or at home.
Although he’s a famous dad, that doesn’t mean he’s the best. He drinks and eats a lot, strangles his son whenever he gets
angry, ignores his daughter’s wishes, etc. He’s also extremely stupid and acts like a dummy. But overall he’s still an
awesome dad.
So that’s my list of the top 10 cartoon dads. I hope you enjoyed it!

Pina Colada
Chocolate Covered Strawberries
You will need:
2 cups Silk® Vanilla Coconut Milk
1 cup chopped pineapple, plus four slices for
garnish
1-tablespoon brown sugar
1 cup of ice
Combine coconut milk, pineapple, sugar
and ice in a blender and blend until it is smooth.
Then, pour it into a glass. If you would like, you can
decorate the glass and the drink with some pineapples.
You will need:
Fresh Strawberries
Hershey Kisses (More than 10)
Parchment Paper on Top of a
Tray
First, wash all the strawberries. Then, melt your
chocolate. The best way to do that is to put your kisses in a
bowl and microwave them. Then, slowly dip your
strawberries inside your chocolate. Carefully place it on top
of a tray lined with parchment paper. Do that until you are
satisfied with the amount of strawberries. Then, carefully
place them inside a refrigerator and take out after at least
two hours. You can tell once they are ready when the
chocolate is completely hardened.
Creamy Raspberry Ice Pops
You will need:
1 Cup fat-free Milk
1 (1 ounce) package instant sugar-free
vanilla pudding mix
½ Cup fat-free Milk
1 cup of fresh Raspberry
2 cups raspberry sherbet, softened
2 cups reduced-fat frozen whipped topping,
thawed
Pour 1 cup of milk into a bowl, and stir in pudding
mix. Beat with an electric mixer about 2 minutes until
thickened. Place the remaining milk and raspberries into a
blender and puree until smooth. Pour the raspberry puree
into the pudding, and add the whipped topping. Stir together
until incorporated. Stir in the softened sherbet. You may
either mix it in completely, or leave it swirled. Divide this
mixture evenly among 10 molds or small plastic cups. Place
a wooden craft stick into each one, and freeze for at least 3
hours.

One day in February, a baker claims that
someone stole a very expensive cake from his shop.
He says that it was one of two people: either Harry or
Tom. Harry was in the store from 2:30 to 3:00. Tom
was in the store from 1:50 to 2:20. The baker says that
the cake was stolen and disappeared at 2:45, on the
30th of the month. Who stole the cake?

Steam Review
By: Christopher Shin
Released in 2002, Steam has been the valves for PC
gaming. Steam is an online store for downloading and
buying PC games. Thanks to Steam, PC gamers have
access to not only mainstream PC, but also other games
such as Call of Duty and GTA 5. Also a pioneer in online
gaming. Steam was the first to have game parties, where
friends could team and group up to fight through campaigns
or competitive team death matches. Games, especially new
releases are ranged around 30-60 dollars. Older Indie games
are priced under 20 dollars. Bundles can include a set of
games, their respective DLCs, expansions and even season
passes. Sales can drop a games’ price down by half and
because Steam is so popular, most companies add exclusive
features for Steam users. Steam also includes a refund
option, so if you’re not satisfied, you can refund the game for
full price. Steam also has a great community, where people
not only talk, but help others find the games they want.
Of course, nothing is perfect, so
Steam does need tweaks here and there, but
overall, its a great system, and worth every
penny. But wait, it’s free!
Splatoon came out May 29th
and it made a big splash in stores.
Splatoon is a shooting game, but the
goal is not like most shooters. Your
goal is to mark your territory, with INK! There are four
main modes: Turf War, Battle Dojo, Hero Mode, and
Ranked Battle. Although you can’t choose your ink color,
you can choose and buy gear. Each gear has special
abilities like speed, strength, defense, and other abilities.
Hero Mode is basically Splatoon’s story mode.
You need to save the zap-fish from an evil race called
the Octarians. They are a race of octopi that want to get
revenge on the inklings because of events long ago. In
my opinion, I think Hero Mode isn’t as fun as Turf War
because it is pretty easy and kind of tedious.
Turf War is an online mode that is more casual
than Ranked Battles. In Turf War you need to cover the
most territory with ink. The more ink you cover, the more
points you get. The points determine how much
experience and coins you earn. Luckily, if the enemy
covers your ink you don’t lose points. Unfortunately, in
both Turf War and Ranked Battles you can’t play
multiplayer on the same Wii U.
The Battle Dojo is the only multiplayer mode that
is not on Wi-Fi. One person plays on the Wii U gamepad,
the other on a Wii U pro controller. The person that pops
the most balloons wins the game. I haven’t played this
mode because I don’t own a Wii U pro controller (they
are really expensive.)
Ranked Battles are like Turf Wars, but you get
ranked by letters from C- to A+ and there are nine ranks.
The only mode available now is Splat Zones where you
need to occupy a zone for 100 seconds to win. Tower
Control is coming out this summer and it’s where you
take control of a tower and ride it to the enemy base to
win the game. Rainmaker mode was announced, but
there is no information yet.
My satisfaction with this game was pretty high. I
would rate it an 83%. The drawback is the Story Mode
was not that good and each person you want to play with
has to own Splatoon because you cannot play on the
same Wii U. I was really excited about the Amiibo, but I
don’t have time to talk about it. If you own the Wii U get
it, or you can get the bundle which is also worth it.

TABBY AND GABBY
Dear Tabby and Gabby –
How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
- The Wonderer of the Universe
Dear Wonderer –
Wonderer of Stupid Things-
That is quite a tongue twister! Gabby didn’t feel like reading it
herself, so I had to read it to her; let me just tell you, I had a lot of
trouble! Back to the question (which is a very good one, indeed) – I
worked a few calculations and found the average amount of dirt in a
typical 25–30-foot woodchuck burrow, and figured that if a woodchuck
could move the same amount of wood, he would bring in a total of about
700 pounds on a good day. I also found a more language-associated
way to find the answer: I determined “chuck” to be the opposite of
“upchuck,” and therefore guessed that a woodchuck could take in
361.9237001 cubic centimeters of wood per day, which may have been
the average amount of puke that the woodchuck could release.
- Tabby
That’s annoying and a waste of my
time! It’s just a tongue twister – a question,
if you will, that was never meant to be
answered. Goodbye! See you never!

Dear Tabby and Gabby,
IT’S SO HOT IN THE CLASSROOM! No air conditioning either! Help me! I’m melting!
What should I do?
- Melting Popsicle
Dear Melting Popsicle,
Melting Popsicle,
There is a solution! Try to use your
papers as a fan and it’ll help! I understand that
there’s no air conditioning in any classroom
(except for some classes), but there is always
a solution! Try plucking your shirt to let some
air into it as well. School will end soon, so
hang in there!
Oh forget it! Everybody else is probably melting more
than you are! Don’t be so greedy and deal with it!

Dear Tabby and Gabby –
All my friends are going away this summer while I’m stuck inside. I’ve got books and all, but I don’t think I’ll
survive that long. Got any ideas?
- Bored
Dear Bored for Life,
Dear Bored for Life,
Don’t you worry! Even though most of your friends are
gone, you can always find new ways to have fun! There are
tons of things to do in the summer without going on vacation!
You can visit the pool, play with your pets, or even make up
your own games! You won’t be bored for long because summer
is a beautiful season and will brighten your heart!
You’ve got nothing to do!? How boring
your life is! A person like you should stay inside
all day. Just bribe your parents to go
somewhere. Ugh.
- Gabby
- Tabby
Dear Tabby and Gabby,
I have one dog at home and love her! But whenever I do my homework, my dog finds a way to find it and
chews it and tears it apart! I tell my teacher, but because of that old joke, she never believes me. What should I
do?
- Dog Lover
Dear Dog Lover,
Dear Dog Lover,
I love dogs, just like you! I can tell you’re very stressed by this
situation. First, you can keep your homework somewhere your dog cannot
reach it. You can put it in your backpack and place it on top of a tall
bookshelf or something like that. Also, you can always ask the teacher for
an extra copy of the homework, just in case your dog gets to your
homework. But just remember, you shouldn't blame your dog!
- Tabby
Ugh! Stupid dogs! Well
you can just get rid of your dog
because no one likes dogs. Or,
you can punish your dog until it
never eats your homework again.
