Greek Village Immersion Camp. . . . . . . . . . 7
Dear Readers:
This month, we invite you to shift into your
musical gear as we put the spotlight on Ariana
Frosene
Savalas. If that last name rings a bell, it should as
Phillips
she is the daughter of the late great Telly Savalas. As
Editor
Savalas prepares to host and perform at St. George
Orthodox Church’s Greek Festival in Palm Desert, CA, she talked
with the HJ’s Mavis Manus about her family, her career and her
Greekness. Please see page 4.
In conjunction with this interview, the HJ features several
musicians as well as a review of Yanni’s latest CD “Touch of
Truth,” which was released last month. In remembering, Yanni’s
magnificent concert at the Acropolis, correspondent Markos
Papadatos writes, “… his 1994 ‘Yanni Live at the Acropolis’
concert, which was seen by half a billion viewers in over sixty
countries, is considered to be among the top PBS fundraisers of all
time.” For the complete review, see page 5.
In keeping with music, the HJ is proud to be one of several
sponsors for the upcoming Cappella Romana return concert in
San Francisco at Annunciation Cathedral in honor of the acclaimed
group’s 20th anniversary. Cappella Romana’s first concert was held
there in 1991 and supported Annunciation Cathedral following the
1989 Loma Prieta earthquake that shook the Bay Area. Donations
from the upcoming concert will support the Annunciation
Cathedral Building Fund. For more details about the program and
history of Cappella Romana, please see page 7.
Finally, the bouzouki artistry of the legendary John “Sporos”
Stamatis will be remembered fondly in America and in Greece
by all of those who were touched by his magic. He recently died
following a long hospitalization and is remembered on page 9.
May his memory be eternal.

W
hen Ariana Savalas walks on stage the
atmosphere crackles. Tall (5’7”), willowy, blond
and startlingly beautiful, she exudes not only
a joy of life but the wish to share that joy with all who
behold her. You can see her this month at St. George’s
Greek Festival in Palm Desert on March 4, 5 and 6 where
she will be hosting and performing Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
She is also completing a debut
album of her songs, Kingdom,
which will be released in the near
future. While vacationing with her
family several years ago, the castles
of Bavaria where King Ludwig
11 held court in the 1800’s made
a strong impression. She found
them powerful and flamboyant, yet
shrouded in secrecy and mystery.
Blending the raw emotion of her
intimate yet edgy and infectious
tunes with the enchantment of the
experience, this 23-year old singer
discovered the perfect metaphorical
title for her new album. Savalas
explained that Kingdom is a
combination of wanting to create a
project on a grand scale yet basing it
on music and lyrics that are almost
painfully private.
Ariana lived in Los Angeles
for the first seven years of her life,
but when her father, the legendary
Emmy-winning, Oscar-nominated
actor Telly Savalas, died the family
moved away. Ariana returned
to L.A. in 2009 and has lived a
fascinatingly diverse musical life ever
since. Her affinity with jazz and
cabaret standards from the Great
American Songbook gave her a
good start in the local music scene
and led to
invitations
to perform
at clubs
and events
around the
country.
Also, she
was cast in
the title role
of Miriam
Shafer
in the
feature film
Ariana Savalas
Miriam, a
true story
of a Lithuanian Holocaust survivor.
Only 18 years of age, Savalas had
to come up with a punishing and
challenging range of emotions while
portraying the character from age
15 to 50.
She recently took some time off
from her busy schedule to talk with
the HJ:
HJ: Has the name Savalas been a
help or hindrance to your career?
Ariana: It has never been a
hindrance, the opposite actually.
When people have greater
expectations of you, it motivates
you to meet them. I am a harder
worker because of it. I’m so
proud of everything my father
accomplished in his short time on
earth, of everything he stood for. I
am also proud to be Greek, but at
the end of the day it doesn’t matter
what your name is or where you
come from; a famous last name
cannot make people connect with
COURTESY PHOTO
your music. I am not as interested
in how or why people listen to my
music as I am in the bond between
us.
HJ: How was it growing up in an
artistic family (father: actor, mother:
designer, grandmother: painter, etc)?
Ariana: I don’t know what I
did in a past life to deserve it, but
God was very good to me when he
sent me to the Savalas family. From
the day I was born, I have been
surrounded by not only the kindest
and sweetest people imaginable but
by so many brilliantly gifted artists.
You can only hope to absorb a
fraction of the beauty or skill that I
was provided with as a child.
HJ: Where did your interest in
music come from?
Ariana: My family. My father
was the biggest reason that I
became so fascinated with the
old school Sinatra standards (my
favorite and number one guy)
which got me my start in the
music business. Mom was a lot
younger than dad and came from
a different generation of music
– the baby-boomer classic-rock
generation. From her I became
obsessed with the Beatles, Simon
and Garfunkel, Peter Gabriel,
Sting, Annie Lennox, just to name
a few. From my brother Christo I
was introduced to more alternative
hard rock: Muse, The Red Hot
Chili Peppers.
From my grandmother on my
mother’s side I was introduced to
other musical genres as she was
a gifted composer and singer. All
these influences show up in my
music.
HJ: Was music played at family
gatherings?
Ariana: Yes and still is.

Yanni’s “Truth of Touch”
By Markos Papadatos
A
cclaimed composer and
world-renowned pianist,
Yanni, released his latest
album “Truth of Touch” on Feb.
8, 2011. This is Yanni’s sixteenth
studio album, and he arranged,
wrote or co-wrote all of the tracks. Throughout his illustrious
career in music, Yanni has sold
over 20 million records, and
has garnered two Grammy
nominations for his “Dare to
Dream” and “In My Time” records;
moreover, his 1994 “Yanni Live at
the Acropolis” concert, which was
seen by half a billion viewers in
over sixty countries, is considered
to be among the top PBS
fundraisers of all time. Particularly impressive about
this album is that it emerged from
Yanni’s experimenting and playing
in his Miami recording studio. The
end result is a fresh new sound
to Yanni’s music, with less live
orchestration, yet more rhythms
and catchy melodies. With its
stellar opening song, the title track,
Yanni is able to take his listeners
on a journey, transporting them to
alternative realms. Equally promising tracks
include “Flash of Color,” “Vertigo,”
“Can’t Wait,” “Secret” and “Mist
of a Kiss.” On the operatic and
soulful “O Luce Che Brilla Nell’
Oscurita,” Yanni collaborates with
gifted vocalist Nathan Pacheco.
“Can’t Wait,” which contains
elements of gospel music, features
Kentucky native Leslie Mills on
vocals; while the jazzy “Yanni
and Arturo” represents a soaring
collaboration with veteran Cuban
trumpet player Arturo Sandoval.
“Secret,” featuring Chloe Lowery
on lead vocals, is a soothing and
hypnotic track with which he
closes his album, leaving audiences
yearning for more.
All three guest vocalists,
Pacheco, Mills and Lowery,
re-unite with Yanni on “Truth of
Touch,” after previously working
with him on his 2009 Yanni Voices
record. In summation, Yanni’s newest
album “Truth of Touch” is an
eclectic fifteen-track masterpiece.
It is a substantial indication that
Yanni’s contemporary instrumental
music is like fine Greek wine; he
only gets better with each release.
Yanni’s “Truth of Touch” may very
well be every Greek-American’s
“guilty pleasure.”
Yanni is slated to embark on a
40-city North American tour in
Spring of 2011, including leading
venues such as New York’s Radio
City Music Hall, as well as Los
Angeles’ Nokia Theatre L.A. Live.
For more information on Yanni,
his music, and his upcoming North
American tour, visit yanni.com.
The end result is a fresh new sound to Yanni’s
music, with less live orchestration, yet more rhythms
and catchy melodies.

Eikona
E
ikona is comprised of three
sisters: Presvytera Stacey
Dorrance, Presvytera
Marika Brown and Chrysanthy
Therianos. They started their
music ministry 19 years ago, when
their husbands pressed them as to
how they would use their musical
talents. “It seemed natural to us
that we would make recordings of
the hymns of our faith,” remarked
Dorrance. “We were raised very
close to the church, and we
always had before us the example
of dedicated parents who were
church musicians.”
“Missing church was never an
option,” says Brown. “Even on
prom nights, we were expected
to make an appearance at Paschal
services, and be in liturgy, on time,
the next morning.”
For the Maniatis sisters,
attending church was an
important part of life, and they
have now continued that tradition
with their own families. “Our
children miss church only for very
good reasons,” Therianos, the
youngest sister, said.
This nurtured taste for
liturgical worship has had its
payoffs. All three sisters have
been or are currently choir
directors and chanters in their
own parishes. They have made
a noteworthy contribution to
America by providing recordings
of Byzantine Chant in English. Eikona has nine recordings,
the two newest being Prayers for
Orthodox Christians, and Great
Saints and Major Feasts of the
Orthodox Church Calendar. It
includes recordings of their 12
Margarita
children telling their patron
saints’ stories and chanting their
troparia. Eikona performs several
concerts a year and run chanting
workshops as well. Find out more
about them and their music at
www.eikona.com.
Margarita
M
argarita is often
described as the “heart
of the party.” Born and
raised to a Greek-American family
in Northern California, she is just
as local as she is global.
When Margarita was just a
teenager, while most kids were
listening to the tunes of their
generation, she was drawn to
the music of her ancestors. She
would sing Greek songs on the
guitar and eventually joined a
Greek band, playing local festivals,
parties and special events. During
this time, she also studied and

Annunciation Cathedral Building

Cappella Romana was founded
in 1991 by Greek American Dr.
Alexander Lingas, who is a Senior
Lecturer in Music at City University
in London, England, and one of the
world’s leading scholar-performers
of Byzantine and Orthodox music.
Among his current projects is a
general introduction to Byzantine
Chant for Yale University Press. He
is the 2010 recipient of the Saint
Romanos the Melodist Medallion,
awarded for exemplary national
contributions to church music in
the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese
of America. Following this concert,
Dr. Lingas and the ensemble will
begin work with Stanford University
on a new research project on the
acoustics of Byzantine churches.
The Genesis of an Idea
Writing from his home near
London, England, Alexander Lingas
recalled the beginnings of Cappella
Romana: “I moved to San Francisco
as a newlywed in June 1990 to join
my wife Ann, who was studying
with a teacher at San Francisco
Conservatory and playing locally
as a freelance violinist. We became
members of the Greek Orthodox
Cathedral of the Annunciation,
where I also took up a post as
second cantor (lampadarios).”
Since the original cathedral
had been leveled in the wake of
the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake,
services were being held under the
low-hanging acoustical tiles of the
nearby Bausch and Lomb building.
As the cathedral community met
to begin the task of designing and
funding a new church complex,
Lingas too wanted to be involved,
even though he was a doctoral
student with limited means. “In
early 1991, I hit upon the idea of
getting together some of my fellow
singers from the Pacific Northwest
for a benefit concert of Orthodox
liturgical music.”
Why “Cappella Romana”?
Lingas had long been involved
in early music. The new group
would begin with deep ties to Greek
Orthodoxy and to the historic
Byzantine Empire. “Whereas my
old group had been called “Cappella
Antiqua” (“ancient chapel,” a
common name in Early Music
circles), I decided to call the new
group “Cappella Romana” to evoke
the ecumenical inheritance of the
Late Antique Roman [Byzantine]
Empire, a concept that lives on
today in the modern Greek notion
of Romiosyni.”

Greek Village Camp At Saint Nicholas Ranch
Back by Popular Demand
T
he Greek Orthodox
Metropolis of San
Francisco is continuing
the successful Greek Village
Immersion Camp with its
Second Annual “Elliniko Horio”
from June 18 – 25, 2011 at St.
Nicholas Ranch and Retreat
Center in Dunlap, CA.
The enormous success of
last year’s camp left the children
begging for more! Children
happily immersed themselves in a
fun program which bonded them
to their ancestral heritage. With
the guidance of skilled instructors,
they connected themselves with
their language, customs, traditions
and faith. While having the
opportunity to create new
friendships and also bond with
each other, the children attended
classes in cooking, where among
other things they were excited to
make tzatziki and melamakarona.
They learned music, and at
night sang their Greek folk songs
while roasting marshmallows by
the campfire. The children took
lessons in theatre, performing for
their parents on the final day of
camp. They studied geography and
discovered on the map where their
ancestors were born. The children
also studied Mythology and Greek
history; they visited the origin of the
Olympic Games and followed their
studies with their own participation
in a mock Olympic Competition
at the camp. Campers attended
worship services daily and also
had an opportunity to observe the
monastic life at the Monastery
of the Theotokos the Life Giving
Spring which is adjacent to St.
Nicholas Ranch. Arts and crafts,
swimming, basketball and volleyball
were also just a few of the many
extracurricular activities included in
the children’s’ daily schedule.
“The Greek Village Camp has
become a signature program for
the Metropolis of San Francisco
and I am grateful to the families of
Dr. James and Virginia Kallins, Dr.
George and Bettina Kallins and Dr.
David and Barbara Kallins Matty
for their continued support of this
initiative,” stated His Eminence
Metropolitan Gerasimos of San
Francisco. “The Elliniko Horio is a
creative and unique way to immerse
children in the Greek language and
culture, providing a memorable
learning experience while forming
deep friendships with other youth
with whom they share their religious
and cultural heritage.”
The 230 acre Saint Nicholas
Ranch and Retreat Center is nestled
in the foothills of the Sequoia
National Park. Its hiking trails,
apple orchards, historic barn and
lake provide the atmosphere of a
traditional Greek Village to further
enhance a truly cultural experience.
Under the guidance and
direction of the Metropolis
Committee on Greek Education
and Culture, “The Greek Village”
will again be led by a team of highly
qualified instructors, selected from
various Greek language schools in
the Metropolis. The program is
open to all youth ages 7 through
14. Activities will be divided
based on age-appropriateness to
facilitate learning and enhance
the educational experience.
Special discounts are available for
families sending more than one
child or for parents who wish to
accompany their child to camp.
Enrollment is limited so reserve
your space today.

Interior minister proposes
increased hours, afternoon
operation, in civil services
Interior minister Yiannis
Ragoussis announced that the
ministry plans to take two
significant initiatives for the
modernization of the public
sector, productivity of the civil
servants and improving services
to the citizens, during a meeting
with the presidium of the civil
servants’ umbrella federation
ADEDY.
The first initiative will be an
increase in the working hours
by 2 1/2 hours weekly, from the
current 37 1/2 hours to 40 hours
per week, as is in effect in the
private sector, while the second
initiative is for certain vital
services to be open to the public
in the afternoons as well.
On the second proposed
initiative, Ragoussis stressed that
the ministry was not talking
about a shift with a break
between morning and afternoon
hours, but a continuous shift. He
said the new working hours for
the services that will also be open
in the afternoon will begin in
October to enable employees to
schedule their obligations.
Ragoussis said that with the
above proposals to the civil
servants, he was calling on them
to contribute to the national
effort being made by all the
Greeks to bring the country out
of the crisis, and clarified that the
initiatives were unrelated to the
Memorandum and the troika.
ADEDY chief Spyros
Papaspyros expressed reservations
over the increased weekly
working hours and the afternoon
hours, although he acknowledged
the ministry’s desire for a frank
dialogue.
IMF supports extension

WASHINGTON (ANA-MPA

extending more than 10 years,
Caroline Atkinson, head of foreign

The IMF official reiterated the
fund’s intention to extend the

stressed that interest rates were set

“It is important to have a

she underlined the significance of

Minister: Significant interest
in Greek ports, cruises
Maritime Affairs & Fisheries
Minister Yiannis Diamantidis
reiterated that interest in
developing sea cruise tourism in
practically every Greek port is
enormous, following the scuttling
of most of the cabotage legislation
that hampered foreign flagged
vessels from conducting cruises in
Greek waters.
Speaking to reporters after
a meeting with the heads of
the country’s 12 largest ports,
Diamantidis said there was
significant interest for investments
in certain ports, in cooperation
with neighboring countries.
He also announced that the
government’s strategic plan for a
national port system will be based
on four axes.
Additionally, the Greek
minister said the government has
hired an international consultant
to draft a plan on improving the
operation of ports.
“We want to include all orphan
ports – more than 800 – into
this new national port system, so
that it becomes profitable for our
country,” Diamantidis said.
In a related development, the
minister also said there was no
issue of Louis Hellenic Cruises
switching to a flag of convenience
and leaving the Greek registry,
despite comments by Giorgos
Koubenas, the company’s general
manager in Greece that “there is
no other choice but to change the
flag on these ships.”
Louis Hellenic Cruises has
begun a legal battle with the
Seamen’s Pension Fund (NAT)
over payment of social insurance
contributions. NAT does not
recognize the validity of a law
offering state subsidies to seamen’s
social insurance contributions.
Athens retailers express
anger over public transport
strikes
The greater Athens region
shop-owners expressed concern
for the decline in their business
turnover that reached 40 pct in
the first two weeks of the winter
sales as well as resentment against
public transport strikes that have
contributed to this development,
according to a statement
issued by the Athens Traders
Association.
Based on a study conducted by
the association, retailers offer
their products in very low prices
and consumers are responsive
only when access to the shopping
centers is not hindered.
Gov’t spokesman on loss
of Mediterranean Games
Government spokesman
George Petalotis denied that
losing the organization of the
Mediterranean Games was
“embarrassing” for Greece and
stressed that the government
could not have consented to a
“squandering of public money
that the ministers of the previous
government had carelessly
promised.”
He pointed out that the
government had at no time
refused to carry out works
needed for the Mediterranean
Games and its infrastructure but
only drawn the line at “fiestas
that would have cost the Greek
people millions and been a
real provocation” at a time of
austerity.

Bouzouki virtuoso John
“Sporos” Stamatiou
T
he bouzouki soloist John
“Sporos” Stamatiou (aka
Stamatis) passed away in
January at the age of 76 in Athens,
Greece, leaving behind a great
legacy. He was a musician who
left his mark, appearing on the
Time magazine cover in 1963, and
was considered one of the greatest
Bouzouki virtuosos of our time.
He was known as “Sporos,”
the nickname the great Manolis
Chiotis gave him. His involvement
in music started when he was 12
years old, when he first met Akis
Panou and his brother Vangelis,
Dimitris and Spyros Efstathiou
and also Stelios Makridakis in the
taverns of Kallithea, Koukaki and
Brachami.
He first appeared on the scene
of “Niki” and he immediately
associated himself with the greatest
artists of folk song (Vamvakaris,
Kazantzidis, Tzouanakos,
Tatasopoulos, Tsistanis, Chiotis,
Ninou, Bebis and others) and
took the part of first bouzouki in
the permanent orchestras of the
recording labels Columbia and
Odeon, since 1952.
The first song he played was
Stavros Tzouanakos’ “There’s a
God.” He quickly became partners
with his inseparable friend, the
composer John Tatasopoulos, and
together they formed a celebrated
duet. He played his emblematic
interludes and solos in unforgettable
songs, such as “The Maharaja,”
“Get Up and Dance – Ela Siko
Chorepse to,” “The Heavy Doors
Closed – Kleisan e portes e varies,”
among others.
In the end of 1957, Sporos, like
many important bouzouki players
of the time, emigrated to America;
to Chicago at first, where he
played in Pantheon, the Athenian
Garden and other establishments,
and next to Hollywood, where
Haratz Yakoubian heard him.
Yakoubian was the first violinist at
Paramount Pictures and together
they formed one of the first
orchestras for international music.
Their rehearsals were attended
by Hollywood personalities, such
as Robert Mitchum and Kirk
Douglas.
Sporos worked in Las Vegas,
San Francisco, in various places
in California and Puerto Rico.
Elvis, Frank Sinatra, and Nat
King Cole were among those who
heard him play, while in Broadway
Theater Ray Charles invited him
in his dressing room to touch his
golden hands in awe.
After a long back-and-forth
between America and Greece, he
returned permanently to Greece in
1979. Until 1995, he worked with
the crème-de-la-crème of folk song
(Bithicotsis, Lydia, Voskopoulos,
Dionysiou, Panou, Marinella,
Linda, etc.), in recordings,
performances and tours.
In the 90s he kept on
appearing in Manolia’s tavern,
together with his wife Voula, a
singer herself. “We were together
for 38 years,” Voula told the HJ
recently. “Sporo performed from
1949 to 2006,” she said.
“Sporos had been a close and
wonderful friend to me just about
all of my life,” said Alex ‘Alekos’
Galas. “I met Yiannis Sporos
Stamatiou for the first time at a
Greek Night Club in San Mateo,
California in 1968. I was just a
little boy, and had been playing
the Bouzouki for three years.
My father asked Sporos if it was
possible for me to perform on stage
with his band members. Sporos
was delighted and showed great
interest with curiosity to hear me
play the bouzouki. I played two of
his compositions that evening and
also Zorba the Greek. Listening
to me play, Sporos approached
my father offering to teach me,
and wanted to begin the lessons
immediately. Sporos commented
to my father that I reminded
him of when he was a boy. I took
lessons from this great player for
about a year, learning many things
about his playing structure, style,
and pick and finger technique.
Sporos changed my life forever.
He molded me into the musician
and player that I am today. I owe
the success of my musical career
to him. I am very thankful that
Sporos was part of my musical life
history and destiny. I will miss him
tremendously.”
“Sporos worked on and off for
us,” said Louis Gundunas, owner
of the popular Greek restaurant The
Balkan Village in Los Altos. “He
would ‘wow’ us. His play was so
clean and rapid.”
and supporter of our community
through donations to philanthropic
events and programs. He was one
of the original and continuous
premier sponsors of the L.A. Greek
Fest (from 1999).”
In 1969 he founded Caffe
D’Amore and by the early 1980’s
he brought this company, with
his friend and partner Paul Comi,
to the level of one of the world’s
leading gourmet specialty coffee
companies. For over three decades,
Caffe D’Amore has maintained its
global reputation for superior taste,

As public servants, we are
stewards of the public trust

Vicki Pappas, Metropolis Choir
Federation President Kathy Meck,
Ascension Cathedral Organist Anna
Counelis, and other
community members
offered tributes to Dr.

from throughout
the Metropolis also
performed to the
capacity crowd. “It’s
been a team effort of
many throughout the
country to develop
our church choral
tradition in America,”
said Counelis (pictured
on page 3). “But
without Dr. Tikey
Zes, it would not have
reached the outstanding
level we all now enjoy.
Thank you Tikey for
making our church music
relevant for us in THIS
TIME, the 21st century
and in THIS PLACE,
the United States of
America.” Pictured left

to embark upon
my new path
in the law,” Judge Counelis shared
with the invited guests. “I realize
that I must always be aware that
while exercising the role and
responsibilities of a judge are
important, especially for the parties
whose disputes I will hear, I am also
quite cognizant that the occupation
should not and does not change the
essence of who I was
and remain now that I
am privileged to wear
the black robe. I do
hope that the judicial
office will magnify my
desirable qualities –
patience, temperance,
and fair mindedness,
as opposed to bringing
forth the undesirable
qualities, such as
impatience, ill temper,
or bias. I will work
toward that personal
improvement.”
Judge Counelis is

®
HJ: Who are your favorite Greek
singers?
Ariana: Two words – Anna
Vissi! What an amazing woman,
performer and spirit. I adore her.
HJ: Did you decide early on that
you wanted to be an actor as well as
singer/dancer/ composer?
Ariana: I decided early I wanted
to be an artist, but it took me years
to discover what exactly that meant
to me. Before I became a musician
I involved myself in a vast variety of
the arts – acting in films, TV and
plays, dancing, writing, painting,
recording as a pop singer in Europe.
All these experiences have shaped
who I am as a person and as a
performer.
HJ: Do you sing in English and
Greek?
Ariana: I sing in both these
languages and also in Spanish and
French. I must admit I sing better
in Greek with the help of a little
ouzo.
HJ: Where did you study music
and acting?
Ariana: I never studied music
formally, and taught myself piano
in order to write music. I studied
acting at the Royal Academy of
Dramatic Art in London and at
Playhouse West in Los Angeles.
HJ: What prompted you to agree
to host St. George’s panayiri in Palm
Desert?
Ariana: This is my first time
hosting a panayiri and I couldn’t be
more thrilled to support the Greek
community and church in any
way I can. I feel very connected to
Greece. In fact I have applied for
Greek citizenship and my brother
has already been sworn in.

CAPPELLA ROMANA

the Annunciation Cathedral in San
Francisco and Holy Trinity Church
(now Cathedral) in Portland, in
April 1991, Lingas led performances
of Cappella Romana’s inaugural
program of “Orthodox Music:
Ancient and Modern” in both cities
(at St. Ignatius and Holy Trinity,
respectively). Lingas remembers
this time fondly: “The concerts,
which featured music ranging from
medieval Byzantine chant to Desby,
Tavener and Zes, were very well
received, laying the groundwork
for our first full concert season in
Portland.”
That first full concert season
in 1991-92 expanded quickly
to include a series in Seattle,
Washington, then to tours in
California and all over North
America and Europe, with
recent appearances at the
Metropolitan Museum of Art,
the Getty Center (twice), Music
Before 1800 in New York, the
Smithsonian Institution, the
Byzantine Festival in London,
Paradhòsis Byzantine Festival
in Sicily, and the Pontificio
Istituto Orientale in Rome, and
forthcoming engagements at Yale,
New York, Greece, and Cyprus.
