Term 4, Week 9: Wednesday 11th December 2013
As the end of the year draws to a close we
would like to thank all of the parents and extended family members who have
volunteered their time and supported
Prospect Primary in 2013. This has been appreciated. We wish all families a happy and
safe Christmas break.
A GIFT FROM THE YEAR 7 STUDENTS
The Year 7 Class of 2013 under the guidance
of and Visual Arts Teacher, Steph Wright
have completed their mosaic artworks on the
steps of the amphitheatre. This very
enthusiastic group of students had the
opportunity to extend their fine art skills and
produce their decorative and vibrant
underwater masterpiece. This is their
gift to our school and a legacy of
their time here. Thankyou to all
parents, siblings and staff who have
also contributed to this years school
community project.

NEW PERMANT TEACHER :
BELINDA BULLING
Hello everyone,
I’m thrilled to have been appointed to Prospect Primary School. I
have been teaching for 26 years
both in city and country schools
and have taught from reception
to year 7.
I am married with 2 children. Sam is 17 and going into year 12
and Georgina is nearly 16 and about to commence year 11. As
you can imagine 2014 is going to be a challenging year in our
household. I am a qualified gym instructor and personal trainer, having completed certificates 3 and 4 at the Australian
Institute of Fitness. My other special interests include the
English Royal Family and Modern European History. I look
forward to being a part of the Prospect School community and
meeting you in the new year.
FRIENDS & CLASSES
I know that there will be many anxious parents awaiting to
here who will be their child’s teacher for 2014.
The formulation of classes is a big process. It commences
with parent feedback then proceeds to HR decisions, asking
students to nominate who they work well with, asking
teachers which students don’t work well together and then the
process of allocating commences. To date I have circulated
about five class drafts before we have settled on the
placements that have been made available today.
Our aim is to have a least one friend out of a nominated four ,
move to the next class with each student. I however do not
personally do not support keeping groups of friends together
or a special friend through each year of schooling.
Throughout life we all have to face new situations without a
friend standing by our side. Examples include, starting a new
school, starting a new job, joining a new club or sporting team,
meeting your new partners family, going on holidays.
Sure good friends are at end of the phone and remain a
constant throughout our lives but they will not be there all of
the time.
Learning how to make new friends and face new situations is
a skill that we all need to learn. This skill can be learnt and
once mastered will make your child resilient and able to face
new situations without fear. A wide circle of friend also broadens our life opportunities.
If your child is therefore not in a class with lots of their friends
treat this like a gift as it is an ideal opportunity for them to
learn these social skills and build resilience. Parents have a
vital role to play over Christmas in preparing for a new school
year. Be positive, and talk positive. Its funny you might think
that you are having a quiet chat to grandma but your children
always find out and often their behaviour reflects our fears.
One last thought , how many people do you know that still
have a primary school friend in their
friendship group as adults?
Some hints;
HOW TO MAKE FRIENDS:

Be around your class mates

Talk to your class mates

Make eye contact and smile

Start a conversation

Ask them to play

Be a good friend, be positive and kind
FAREWELL
My placement at Prospect Primary was just for 2013.
From 2014 I will commence a 7 year tenure as the Principal of Nailsworth Primary School. I have loved my year at
Prospect including getting to know the wonderful students,
staff and community . My aim as Principal is to always
leave a school that I lead in a better position than I found
it and in this context am pleased with the structures we
have put in place over the year.
I look forward to meeting you in the future years within the
wider Prospect Community

FAMILY PICNIC
Parent Thoughts, “Thank you for a great picnic last night. We wanted to write
and say how enjoyable the music performances were. They added a great
atmosphere to the night and the students should be very proud of their
performances. The music program hasn’t been going long, but how great did
they sound! Our son played the recorder and was very excited and proud to be
playing. Congratulations to Martin and Kristina Phillipson (and their team) on the
music program and all their hard work. We look forward to hearing more ”music
next year!”

AFTER SCHOOL CLASSES
AT PROSPECT PRIMARY 2014
There are two after school options that you may be of interest to
Families in 2014.
FRENCH CLASSES
In 2013, a private company has been
offering after school French Classes for
interested students. We understand that this
will not be an option in 2014, however...
THE DECD SCHOOL OF LANGUAGES is offering to run an after
school French programme in 2014 for interested students. This is a far
more accessible programme with a charge of $50 per year.
The programme would be offered once a week for one and half hours at
our school.
TO REGISTER YOUR CHILD FOR THE 2014 FRENCH PROGRAMME
Please email the Principal
[email protected]
The name and year level of your child.
HIP HOP CLASSES
Do you have a son or daughter who loves dance but is more interested
in hip hop and modern dance than jazz/tap and ballet? We have an
opportunity for students who'd like to learn dance at PPS in a weekly
after school class next year, with acclaimed dance teacher Nikki Allen.
Students would have a 45 minute lesson in a group of 10 – 15. Cost of
the classes is likely to be $10 - $12 per class.
Nikki currently teaches at Burnside Primary and some PPS students
may remember the fantastic dancers who performed with the Burnside
PS band when they came to visit us earlier this year.
In order to have Nikki come to the school
we need a minimum of ten dancers so if
you are interested in lessons for your son/
daughter please contact Kristina Phillipson
(a parent at PPS) on
[email protected] or
0422 237 164.

FUNDRAISING TEAM
READY TO GO IN 2014
Thanks for everyone’s support throughout the
year - we have enjoyed putting together some
successful events during 2013, and can’t wait to
see what the $11,901we raised gets used for
during 2014!
PROSPECT FAIR 2014
Early notification that the Prospect Fair is 22nd
March 2014.
Why are we giving you so much warning? With
Christmas holidays and new Christmas Gifts
looming, if you do any cleaning/sorting through
children’s toys over the holidays, please
consider keeping them in a box until School
starts in 2014, so we can use as Game prizes at
the Fair in March. Happy and Safe Christmas,
From the Fundraising Committee - Lucie, Kathy,
Sonia, Nicola & Kimberley.
Room 6 worked with community artist Bridgette Minuzzo to paint our very own stobie poles on Braund Road. It was a part of the
Community Arts project with Prospect Council. Our task was to make stencils with a transport theme and an original design. We used
these with a background design. We hope you enjoy looking at our stobie poles as much as we liked painting. By Nadia Milochis and
Charlotte Balfour.
YEAR 7 GRADUATION
We congratulate all of the students who have received an
award in 2013 . Awards are nominate by class teachers
throughout the year for students who demonstrate

SUCCESS, such as achieving excellence

CREATIVITY such as being innovative,

RESPECT such as being thoughtful, caring
Pictured are the last award winners for 2013, who received
their awards at the week 8 assembly.
PARENT THOUGHTS: “We would like to congratulate your
staff, the Governing Council and of course the wonderful
students for hosting a truly memorable Graduation Ceremony.
The speeches were very well delivered and with great thought
and maturity. We also enjoyed your ‘SPRAT’ analogy! It was
great to hear the positive reflections students had of their time
at Prospect Primary School. This is a real credit to the
dedicated staff as the students do think very highly of them and
the school.
The slideshow presentation brought back great memories and
the songs were very touching. The gift bag given to the
students will also hold lasting memories.
Overall, it was a beautiful and moving moment and we were
all very proud parents. A lot of great achievements have been
made. Congratulations.”
