COURSE INTRODUCTION
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
DESIGNATION OF CREDIT
The Neurosciences Institute at AtlantiCare Regional Medical
Center (ARMC) invites you to the fifth annual Stroke Summit.
The conference will discuss advances and new technologies
in comprehensive stroke and neurological care. Improving
patient outcomes for stroke requires a multifaceted approach
across the continuum, from the pre-hospital setting up to
and including rehabilitation. The summit is designed to
improve the knowledge, competence and performance of
healthcare providers engaged in the daily care of patients
who suffer from stroke and stroke-related conditions and
diseases, in order to prevent a gap in knowledge about
existing information and technology.
This activity has been planned and
implemented in accordance with the
Essential Areas Standards and Policies of the
Medical Society of New Jersey through the
joint providership of AtlantiCare Regional
Medical Center and Jefferson Neuroscience
Network. The AtlantiCare Regional Medical
Center is accredited by the Medical Society
of New Jersey to provide continuing medical
education for physicians.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This program is designed for physicians, nurses, allied health
providers, pharmacists, rehabilitation therapists, social
workers, case managers, radiology technologists and first
responders to improve the delivery of care in treating stroke
and stroke-related conditions and diseases.
CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this program participants should be able to:
• Explain acute treatment options available in the
Comprehensive Stroke Center setting.
• Identify updates on best practice in the emergency
room setting for the acute stroke patient.
• Define the benefits of implementing a teleneurology
program in the acute hospital setting.
• Recognize the expanding role of the stroke nurse and
stroke advanced practice nurse across the continuum.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke therapy is a complex and
constantly changing field of medicine that incorporates
specialists from many different backgrounds. State of the
art management of stroke patients requires an efficient and
coordinated team of EMS personnel, nurses and physicians
using the latest treatment algorithms. The team of experts
involved in stroke care includes specialists from neurosurgery,
neurology, neuroradiology, emergency medicine, primary
care and critical care medicine. As neuroscientists develop
safer and more effective treatments for stroke patients, it is
crucial that all practitioners who see patients with ischemic or
hemorrhagic stroke be updated on the latest advancements
in the field.
