Cruise brochure - Port de Barcelona
The Port of Barcelona is the European leader, the Mediterranean turnaround
port par excellence as well as the fourth top cruise homeport. Figures are
important but our goal is to consolidate and maintain the highest levels of
quality and efficiency, to work hard in order to improve our services day by day.
The Port of Barcelona works with the whole local and international
stakeholders of the cruise industry. On the international side, we should
mention the commitment of the Port Authority of Barcelona with the cruise
companies. We feel proud to welcome in our city the most important
worldwide companies and to collaborate closely with them.
The Barcelona Tourism Board, Catalonia Tourist Board and the Airport of
Barcelona are some of our most valuable local partners. Thanks to our mutual
collaboration we can achieve success. In this brochure you will find useful
information about these institutions.
The 2015 season has been exciting and plenty of challenges fully satisfying for
our port and city, but we keep always in mind the Mediterranean, our region.
A cruise itinerary is a chain composed by different destinations. With the aim
of achieving the success of our region, the Port of Barcelona was co-founder
of Medcruise, the Association of Mediterranean Cruise Ports, and holds the
presidency of the association since 2014.

TERMINAL A
| 2016 | Barcelona Cruise Facilities
Due to fast growing number of home port passengers
and the bigger capacity of the ships, Creuers del Port de
Barcelona S.A., the private current concessionaire,
decided to demolish the former 15 years old Terminal
and build a new one prepared to operate turnarounds
of mega cruise ships.
With a total investments of over 15 million euros, the
new Terminal A was inaugurated in April 2008. It has a
total of 6.200 sqm. divided in two main sections: checkin with 44+26 counters and luggage claiming area with
4 luggage conveyors. It has been designed under the
6
last requirements concerning security, comfort, fast
processing and architectural image and fully complying
with International Ship and Port Security Code (ISPS).
The 2 mobile gangways specially designed for the new
generation of ships (Epic, Oasis of the Seas, Carnival
Dream) and luggage conveyors, ensure passengers not
to be mixed with trucks, forklifts and handling staff.
TERMINAL B
This turnaround cruise Terminal of Creuers del Port de
Barcelona S.A., inaugurated in April 2005 with a total
investment of over 10 million euros, was designed to
operate home port calls of mega cruise ships up to
150.000 ton and 4.500 passengers. Terminal B has a
total of 6.500 sqm. divided in two main areas: check-in
area with 46+26 counters and luggage claiming area
with 4 luggage conveyors. It offers the last requirements
concerning security, comfort, fast processing and
architectural image, and it is equipped with 2 mobile
gangways to avoid passengers crossing pier traffic.
This terminal B has been designed by Miami
architectural firm BEA International, fully complying
with International Ship and Port Security Code (ISPS).
A continuous fix concourse connects Terminal A,
Terminal B and Terminal C, enabling easy home port
operation of Oasis of the Seas class cruise ships by
splitting its 6.000 passengers through the 2 Terminals.

new additional passenger embarkation system,
comprising 2 mobile gangways, fix concourse and
vertical communications building (escalators, lift and
stairs).
In 2015, a new concourse was erected connecting
terminal C and B enabling to operate the Allure of The
Seas during the entire season. A new gangway was also
installed in order to be compatible with the new
generation of ships

Catalonia European Region of Gastronomy 2016
Catalonia has been awarded the title of European Region of Gastronomy 2016. The first of its kind in Europe,
this distinction intends to highlight and promote the variety of European food cultures, to raise awareness of
healthy and sustainable food, to foster gastronomic innovation and, in short, to contribute to a better quality of
life for all. The award of this title is a recognition of the quality of the country’s agrifood and tourism industries.
It is also a unique opportunity to position Catalonia through its products and cuisine, and as a wine and
gastronomy destination.
SERVICES, SECURITY &
ENVIRONMENT
Port facilities adapted to the operating needs of our
clients, highly trained personnel with maximum security
in all operating procedures of ships as well as
collaboration among the authorities and security forces
are some of the factors that make our port safe and
reliable.
In our terminals we have developed the highest
standards of security. We follow strict guidelines to
guarantee all cruise needs in terms of safety and
security. Implementation of ISPS Code to SOLAS is one
of our strengths.
Regarding security the 100% of the passengers,
luggages and hand luggages are scanned without any
impediment for the turnaround operation.
We have successfully exceeded the inspection of the
new European Union Regulation (CE) 125/2004, which
essentially states that European ports have to apply
measures which the ISPS code stated as mere
recommendations, thus increasing the required level of
security.
12
One of the main environmental matter for the ports is
the reception of ships waste. Thus, the Port of Barcelona
is prepared and equipped with specialized facilities
devoted to collect different kinds of waste.
For Marpol I (hydrocarbon liquid), II (chemicals), IV (black
and grey waters) waste there is a certified treatment
plant located at the port area, and for Marpol V (rubbish
and cargo) waste there is also a certified facility.
All the port operations are based towards the efficiency
and the environmental responsibility. Therefore, the Port
of Barcelona complies with all the current legislation and
also has established specific action procedures for
having the necessary material and human resources to
achieve these objectives in the most efficient way.
Because of this, aspects such as the waters, traffic roads
or gardening are taken with special care to provide the
best image to the terminal users.
CATALONIA

Located in Santa Coloma
de Cervelló (15 km from
Barcelona), the Colònia
Güell is one of the most avantgarde XIX-century industrial
quarters, by virtue of which it is
regarded as an asset of cultural
interest. Construction of the
Crypt, which Eusebi Güell
commissioned from Gaudí
and which UNESCO recently
declared a World Heritage
Site, was an opportunity for
the architect to experiment
with the aesthetic and
architectural innovations he
would apply to his later work.
Sitges, 35 km from
Barcelona, is an old and calm
Mediterranean fishermen village.
Lots of artists and visitors have
been captivated by his bohemian
and cosmopolitan character.
Visitor breaths art in each corner
of its old quarter. Cau Ferrat,
home and atelier of Santiago
Rusiñol, painter and writer, and
the Maricel Museum, are two
of the main centers showing the
intense cultural life in the village
during XIX and XX centuries,
with works of art from important
painters and sculptors as Picasso,
Casas, Nonell, Mas I Fontdevila,
Llimona, Zuloaga or el Greco
and one of the best European
forged iron collection.
Montserrat mountain, 60
km from Barcelona, is one
of the most singular Catalonian
landscape. The originality and
grandeur of this protected
natural space, the image of
the patron virgin of Catalonia
known as “la Moreneta”,
the basilica, monastery, library
and the famous children
chorus converts this visit an
indispensable one.

BARCELONA
Airport
The Barcelona airport is a modern and practical space
that fully satisfies the requirements of passengers and
companies. It has been consolidated as a crucial facility in
the Mediterranean and Southern Europe. With the
Terminal T1, the airport is ready to welcome 55 million
passengers and 90 operations per hour. This terminal has
been designed as a center of distribution and connection
of flights, but also as a great center of services.
In 2014, the Barcelona Airport has won the “ACI
EUROPE Best Airport Award” because of its strong
performance in key areas, thanks to its sound
16

investment in its infrastructure and high commitment to
environmental sustainability and also because of the
capacity to grow in the future.
To achieve the goal of growth, the Barcelona Airport
works jointly with the Barcelona Tourism Board and the
Port Authority of Barcelona. As a result of this
collaboration, since May 2010, the Barcelona Airport
offers special services for cruise passengers. The airport
of Barcelona arranged a large space in Terminal T1 for
the check in of this kind of passengers with 14 check in
counters in an specific hall. This special operation has
been done with the passengers flying with Air France,
British Airways, KLM and Luthansa.
Since 2008, the airport has set up 16 check in counters
in the port facilities. Nowadays, Delta Airlines works
with their own equipment. The luggage is transferred
directly to the airport and controlled by the Automatic
Treatment System of Luggage.
Thanks to the collaboration between the port and the
airport, Barcelona can offer a first class service to its
cruise passengers.
