Attention Teens- What is Dating Violence? Dating violence is more than an occasional argument or bad mood. Everyone has bad days, and while they shouldn’t be taking their mood out on other people, it happens. Dating violence is more than that. It's regular violent behavior, often against a girlfriend or a boyfriend. Dating violence can be more than just physical abuse (like hitting or shoving). It can also be verbal or emotional abuse. Insults, guilt trips, name calling, jealousy, pressure to be sexually active and isolation from friends/family could all be considered abuse when they happen regularly. No relationship should ever include any type of violence or abuse – if it does it is time to get help. Here are some signs to look for that might mean your friend is in trouble and needs help.* •When your friend and her boyfriend are together, he calls her names or puts her down in front of others. •He acts extremely jealous when she talks to other boys, even when it’s completely innocent. •She apologizes for his behavior and makes excuses for him. •She frequently cancels plans at the last minute for reasons that are untrue. •He’s always checking up on her, calling or texting her, and demanding to know where she’s been and who she’s been with. •You’ve seen him lose his temper, maybe even break or hit things when he’s mad. •She seems worried about upsetting him or making him angry. •She’s giving up on things that used to be important to her, like spending time with friends or doing another activity. •Her weight, appearance or grades have changed dramatically. These could be signs of depression, which could indicate abuse. •She has injuries she can’t explain (broken bones, bruises, scratches), or the explanations she gives don’t make sense. There are a lot of other warning signs, but this gives you a good start of things to look for. If you or someone you know is experiencing dating violence, it’s important to know the signs and understand the process of supporting someone needing support. Please contact Kellie Cummings through Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter at 403-346-5643 and together we can ensure you are receiving the support you need. Go outside. However, their warm welcome is not long-lived when mean-spirited television reporter Heather Jasper-Howe airs a series of stories calling the team's intelligence and bravery into question, and even worse, a number of the weird creature costumes on display in the museum are coming to life and wreaking havoc on the people of Coolsville. Some of the clues seem to point to Old Man Wickles, whose attempts to pose as the Black Knight Ghost were foiled by the Mystery Machinists in the past, but is he looking for revenge or just a red herring? And what is Velma supposed to do about Patrick Wisely, a curator at the museum? October 23rd Hotel Transylvania PG 91 mins Hotel Transylvania is an endearing tale about an overprotective Dracula intent on sheltering his beloved daughter from the vicious humans who killed her mother. The result is a film that will tickle parents with a soft spot for creature features while it puts a good-humored spin on familiar monster lore. Brimming with a sense of energy and ghoulish gags it succeeds at showing impressionable young viewers a playful side of the silver screen's most memorable monsters. October is Library Month!
