The range of inks is so large and diverse that soon you don’t
have any idea what type of ink you need to use.
What is the best ink for your project? Which ink do you
need to use for which surface? Many inks have overlapping
possibilities in addition to their characteristics.

In this Ink Special we shall explain each ink in our KippersHobby
collection.
Our collection consists mainly of inks from Tsukineko.
These inks are:
•
acid free, so can be used in combination with photos
•
archival, so does not fade under normal circumstances
•
durable

Inks can be divided in two main groups:
Dye ink and Pigment ink.
Some have a color indication on the side of the ink pad. Some
have a transparent cover so you can easily see the color.
And boxes are stackable as well.
A number of basic elements apply to most of the inks. There are
exceptions, which we will explain per ink.
Dew Drops can stand up straight because of their small feet,
but are stackable as well.
Because the label is continued on the back, they are also stacked
easily recognizable.
Maintenance
After stamping, it’s important to close your ink pad immediately.
Even though the following use will be in 10 minutes.
Close prevents dehydration.
Stazon ink has an extra plastic cover, to prevent dehydration in
the long run, so always use this cover when you close your ink
pad.
The Cubes, square blocks are approximately 2,5 cm. They are
stackable and through the translucent cover visible for a easy
color recognition.
The Inkers for the refill of different ink pads contain 15 ml. of ink.
These bottles close with a screw cap.
Always use the same color as the original ink pad.
Refilling instructions are described on the package that comes
with the refill.
With step-by-step photos in this special we will provide you
with an explanation of how to refill.
For most of the larger ink pads you can buy an inker.
If the impressions are beginning to fade then refill your ink pad
with an inker.
Spread a few drops of ink on your ink pad and use a spatula, the
Squeegee or something else which is flat and smooth to divide
the ink on your ink pad.
Don’t use sharp materials, which can damage your ink pad.
You don’t need a lot of ink.
It’s beter to refill, than to oversaturate your ink pad.
Waste is a sin and it provides tampering.
Difference between rubber and clear stamps
The stamps nowadays are versatile, long-lasting and give
beautiful prints. Both in rubber stamps as the collection clear or
acrylic stamps are so called ‘cling’ stamps. These stamps have to
be placed on a acrylic stamp block. The advantage is that they
take up less space then a wood mounted stamp, a stamp on a
wooden block.
Every type of stamp has to be storaged in a dark place (for
instance a box or folder) and not too cold or too hot.
Do not store in direct sunlight and cold, because this is a very
bad influence for your stamp.
Clean your stamps well after use, pat dry and store in a proper
way. In this way you will be able to use your stamp a very long
time.
Accidentally applied to much ink?
Dab your ink pad with a paper towel.
Clean up
All stamps can be cleaned with a damp cloth without oil, except
when you have used the StaZon ink. Baby wipes are very suitable for this purpose. Wipe the stamps with the cloth and dry
with a paper towel.
Do not rub, to prevent the forming of fluff on your stamps.
It’s important that for the preservation of your stamps, that you
clean your stamps everytime, to avoid other colors of ink on
your ink pad. Dark ink on a light color ink pad is very annoying
and cannot be removed.
The smaller your stamp, the less pressure is required to abtain a
beautiful print. Some stamps are so small, that a light touch to
the paper is sufficient.
Preserve
There are several ink products available. The large ink pads are
approximately 9,5 x 6,5 cm and are stackable.
If you have a large stamp with small details around the stamp,
than you need to press more in the middle than along the
edges.

Clear stamps do not always give a beautiful print the first time.
Sometimes there are a number of pratice prints needed for a
beautiful stamp. By stamping a number of times the ‘newness’
goes away and the ink will hold better on the stamp. Sanding the
stamp will help to remove the first smoothness as well.
Tip 4:
Always test the ink on a piece of paper before using it on your design. Also test how must ink is required. Very often people use the
ink directly on there design, which can lead to a disappointment
when it doesn’t give the wanted effect.
Another possibility to prepare your stamp is to use an eraser on
the stamp so that it will hold the ink better. Sanding paper/oval
will damage your stamp.
Tip 5:
Your choise of paper is very important: the smoother your paper
the more even your print will be.
Paper structure often gives a more robust print or uneven result.
Another trick for creating a great impression with a clear stamp:
Put a piece of foam, mousepad or a paper block under the paper
you whish to stamp, this will make a great difference..

Some clear stamps are difficult to loosen from the package.
Although clear stamps are very solid, they can rupture.
By removing the stamp piece by piece from the plastic you
prevent the stamp from rupturing.
If your stamp diesn’t stick to your acrylic block, then wash the
back of the stamp with a little bite of water to remove the dirt
and dust, pat dry with a tissue or paper towel and leave to air dry
and your stamp is as new.
Paper collection
If you’re used to working with clear stamps, you need to adjust to
rubber stamps. They are thicker ans therefor earlier to your piece
of paper. This may sound strange, but for the placement of your
stamp it’s useful to keep this in mind.

Tip 1:
To have more control of applying the ink on your stamp, we advise
to place your stamp with the punching side up and applying the
ink by dapping the ink pad on your stamp.
This way you can also apply multiple colors on a single stamp.

Memento Ink pad
Memento is a Dye ink, it’s a quick drying ink that doesn’t fade and gives a good
coverage. The ink can also be used on glossy paper.
The stamp pad has a solid felted surface with a tightly woven fabric top that does not
fray when used directly on paper. It is a water-based ink which makes it suitable for
coloring images with water and a brush.

Versafine Ink Pads
Versafine, the ink for the finest details, 12 beautiful vintage colors.
Versafine ink is the exception among Pigment inks, the ink pad is made of firm felt with
a fabric layer instead of a spongy layer, due to the composition of the ink.
It’s an oil based ink.
Versafine is very suitable for stamping very fine details on matte paper and dries very
quickly. The ink doesn’t run during coloring with markers and watercolor techniques.
Due to the unique composition the ink pads will last 3 to 5 times longer and therefor
you will not need inkers.
The fliptop cover can be fold under the ink pad for simplifying your stamping.

Alcohol-based ink
It’s an alcohol-based ink, which means that this ink is not water soluble, it’s also colorproof,
waterproof and scratch resistant. The ink is specially formulated for the use on semi-porous and nonporous surfaces. Metal, Shrink plastic, plastic sheets, aluminum foil, leather and glass are no problem
for this versatile ink. The ink can easily be removed with the special Stazon Cleaner.
The metallic colors of the Stazon ink contain ink that are quite thick, which is syrupy. The ink pads
are delivered withou the ink, but with an inker and mini Squeegee. Apply just a few drops of ink, not
too much because the ink need a little bite of time to sink in. Spread the ink on the ink pad with the
Squeegee.
