News from the Dugout...
After the terrific performance against Darlington in
our final friendly, the two league games we’ve played
since then we haven’t yet hit those heights and played
nowhere near our capabilities but there is certainly no
need to panic! Last season we were beaten in our 1st
home game and didn’t score a home goal in our first
3 matches so we know there is a long season ahead.
Glossop away was always going to be a difficult away fixture especially
after they’ve just been promoted and used to winning games and although
we didn’t manage to get the ball down and play football at least we dug in
and 2nd half we got a foothold in the game and it could of gone either way.
Losing Frosty was disappointing as he’s looked really sharp in pre season
but Titch went on and did brilliantly to earn us a point which in my opinion
was a fair result.
I’m not making excuses for Tuesday’s display against Harrogate as I take
full responsibility for our performances but the absence of Steva through
work and peaks through suspension didn’t help as we couldn’t play the
system that has worked well for us of late, and the late arrival of Dan due
to breaking down certainly hampered us, but we still had enough quality
players on the pitch to win the game and I felt 1st half we controlled the
tempo and thought it was only a matter of time that we scored but when
that goal doesn’t come the players and supporters get edgy, defensively
we didn’t look in any trouble at all but 2nd half we were very sloppy starting
from the kick off and got done from a set play which was very disappointing
and that gave them something to hang on to but we showed character to
get back in the game and the 3 subs made a difference when they came
on which is what you want from them. We need a reaction from the players
today against Radcliffe and I’m positive we will get that. Keep supporting
the lads as that really does make a difference.

Harrogate RA Match report...
Moors had to come from behind for the second
game in succession to earn a point as they are
still searching for their first win of the season.
There were three changes to Saturday’s opening
day draw at Glossop North End with Joe Tait,
Gavin Cogdon and new signing Michael Hoganson
coming in for Andrew Stephenson, Danny Frost
and Stephen Capper.
The night didn’t get off to a good start as keeper
Dan Lowson was stuck in traffic en route to the
ground, so Moors started the game with ten men
and Tait donning the gloves until the stopper
arrived after five minutes of play.
A rain swept Brewery Field was in perfect
condition and kicking down the slope in the first
half Moors produced some delightful football.
Glen Taylor crossed from the right and strike
partner Cogdon headed across goal and wide,
then Tait crossed from the left into Cogdon and
he controlled the ball to turn and fire a shot
that flashed inches past the far post. Cogdon
was causing big problems to Railway and he
again broke free but his cross was deflected off
Lawrence Hunter and onto the outside of the post.
Just how Moors weren’t in front was a mystery
as they dominated play and camped out in the
Harrogate half. Taylor fizzed a shot across goal
that failed to get a touch and Shane Henry pulled
the ball back for Kallum Griffiths to fire over.
Moors created more chances in the opening half
than they did in the whole game at Glossop on
Saturday. The second half saw Railway start much
the brighter side and Lowson had to make a smart
stop from a grass cutter by
Spennymoor Town 1 – 1 Harrogate RA
Jack Stockdill, before they took the lead in the 59th minute when a corner
from the right wasn’t cleared and captain Daniel Thirkell was on hand
to fire home from inside the six yard box. It was cruel on Moors, but the
visitors had started the second half and were knocking on the door.
Moors shuffled their pack and rang the changes with Nathan Fisher
replacing Paul Johnson, then James Risbrough came on for Robert Briggs.
Moors now had purpose in their play and started to throw the kitchen sink
at Railway. Henry fired a free kick into the arms of keeper Tom Goodwin,
and Fisher crossed from the right which Henry met but Goodwin at full
stretch pushed the ball over.
Taylor wasted another Moors chance as he fired over from inside the area,
then Cogdon tried his luck with a 25yd low shot which drifted just past
the upright. The equaliser arrived in the 81st minute through substitute
Liam Henderson who had only been on the field less than five minutes
as Cogdon’s deep cross was spilled
by Goodwin under pressure and
Henderson was perfectly placed to
1 Dan Lowson
tuck away.
Line-Up...
2 Kallum Griffiths
Moments later and Railway almost
caught Moors out when sub Cameron
Lyn got away and raced into the area
but blazed over, then another chance
fell to the Railway sub but Lowson
produced a good save down to his
left. Into stoppage time and it was all
Moors who forced a number of corners
and won free kicks in dangerous areas.
Henderson had a swerving shot just
over, Cogdon tried an auditious chip
that went over, and Fisher turned but
fired just past the post from 18yds.

A View From The Terrace...
Two games in, two points on the board after consecutive 1-1 draws.
The more complicated game was last Saturday away to Glossop
North End where the hosts, playing their first league game at step 4,
would without doubt going to be up for the occasion. GNE started the
brighter taking the lead after 11 minutes, then sat back in an attempt
to hit us on the counter attack with pace. They condensed the space in
their final third making it very difficult for us to impose our attacking,
passing play for most of the game. The second half Spennymoor
started to get into their stride, with the goal coming from the penalty
spot via Glen Taylor on his second debut for the Moors.
It was no coincidence, considering GNE’s tactics of leaving us as little
space and time as possible, that the penalty came from a counter
attack where Stephenson sent Codgen away to beat three players
before being felled inside the box. Overall a draw was a fair result
however many of the very respectable 471 crowd would’ve left the
ground frustrated that a seemingly legit winner was denied by the
assistant referee’s flag. I’ve previously said Glossop will be around
the 10-12th this season but others tip them as outsiders for a playoff
challenge, they are very physical, workmanlike, they have pace,
what will make them dangerous is teams over committing attacking
wise that will allow them to counter. Not a bad point under the
circumstances and an early warning that Spennymoor will need to
perform game-in-game-out in this league.
Harrogate Railway Athletic were the opponents for the first home
game of the season on Tuesday night, Spennymoor started with a
new wing back formation that allowed them to use the whole width
of the pitch, the Moors did so to almost deadly effect in the first
half, unfortunately as is the story so often, we dominate games for
long periods of time without taking advantage on the scoreboard,
this was again highlighted when Harrogate took the lead early in
the second half with their first decent spell of the game. It’s very
frustrating when we are going behind in games when we’ve been
playing some good football. The distribution was poor in the second
half and Spennymoor couldn’t keep hold of the ball giving it away far
too cheaply, the introduction of Henderson and Fisher in an attempt
to force an equaliser paid off when Henderson bundled the ball over
the line. It’s one of those goals we’ve seen so often ruled out with
goalkeepers so protected in the modern game, thankfully the goal
stood as it appeared
Spennymoor 2-1 Radcliffe Borough
from the main stand
where I was that the Radcliffe Borough 0-0 Spennymoor

Previous Meetings
hold of the cross before
Hendo pounced on the loose ball, there did appear to be contact
between the keeper, defender and the Spennymoor striker but not
enough to constitute a foul in my opinion.
A disappointing draw considering the dominant first half, 2 points
heading into the today’s game isn’t what we wanted. We impressed
with the 3-5-2 formation stretching the Harrogate defence and we
can draw alot of positives from that yet crucially Spennymoor must
start taking advantage when in control of the game. The Moors are
now without a win in 7 league games.
Despite a very positive performance from Radcliffe Borough against
Warrington earlier in the week they come to the Brewery Field without
a win this season after consecutive 2-0 losses, the other against
Mossley on the opening day of the season. As you may expect this
afternoon’s game will not be easy against the visitors who have
strengthened over the last six months and didn’t look like a side that
finished 19th when we played them in the final six weeks of last term.
I know there’s a long way to go this season but Spennymoor need to
chalk a win against their name before they are forced to play catchup, will it be third time lucky?

the 2015/16 Season call
01388 827248
diary of a groundhopper...
1. 1983/84 Radcliffe Borough v Curzon Ashton (North West
Counties Division One)
This was a North West Counties Division One match between Radcliffe Borough and
Curzon Ashton in April 1983,it was the Borough’s first home match in 7 weeks so the
weather at the time must have been horrendous. At the end of the season Curzon
Ashton finished the season in 5th place whilst Radcliffe ended the season in 3rd with
the same points as 2nd place Penrith but with a poorer goal difference. Programme is
a 20 pager with plenty of adverts and a couple of minutes to read the programme,it
costs 20 pence at the time.
2. 1988/89 Radcliffe Borough v Whitley Bay (Northern Premier
League Division 1)
Whitley Bay and Bishop Auckland left the Northern League at the end of season 198788
season to join the pyramid system to play better sides and hopefully gain promotion
up to the higher echelons of the Non League in England. This match in April 1989 was
between Radcliffe Borough who joined the new Northern Premier League Division One
the previous season when it was introduced. At the end of the season Radcliffe were in
17th spot whilst the Bay ended in 5th place.
Programme was 14 pages for 25 pence.
3. 1992/93 Radcliffe Borough v Gretna (HFS Loans Division One)
Radcliffe played the Northern League Champions Gretna at the end of September
1992 and were doing well in 3rd spot despite losing to lower league opposition in
Thackley in the F.A.Cup. Gretna were just under mid table in 12th spot at the time. At
the end of the season the Boro finished in 12th and Gretna in 6th. Gretna of course left
the Northern Premier league in the early 2000’s to gain fame in Scotland by gaining
promotion through 3 Leagues in Scotland and were also Scottish Cup Finalists before
their benefactor died and the money dried up. Programme is 30 pages for 50 pence.
4. 1 995/96 Radcliffe Borough v Gateshead (1-2) (F.A.Trophy 3rd
Round)
A huge game this for Radcliffe ,in fact the programme says at the time it was their
biggest game in the history of the club. This was the last 16 of the F.A.Trophy and
Radcliffe were competing for the first time at this stage and were
in mid table in the Unibond League Division One. Gateshead were
in the higher reaches of the Vauxhall Conference and at the end of
the season finished in 5th spot whilst Radcliffe ended the season
in 6th. Radcliffe had beaten Redditch 3-1 at home then Fleetwood
Town also at home by 2-0. Farsley Celtic were next and again the
Boro won 3-1 at home. Another home draw for the Boro and they won
3-2 against Matlock Town before winning away 3-1 at Bognor Regis
Town. This game was really tight and Gateshead scraped through
by only 2-1 with Radcliffe making it very uncomfortable for the Heed
most of the afternoon. Gateshead went down in the quarter finals to
Chorley who again were in the Unibond Premier League by 3-1 away. Programme is 34
pages for 50 pence.
5. 2000/01 Radcliffe Borough v York City (1-4) (F.A.CUP 1) (At Gigg
Lane, Bury)
I think this was Radcliffe Borough’s biggest ever game as they played host to York City
at Bury’s ground in November 2000. Radcliffe had beaten Rossington Main 3-1 at home
in the Preliminary Round and then squeezed through 1-0 at Blackpool Mechanics in the
next round. Second Qualifying and Radcliffe saw off West Auckland 4-1 at Stainton
Park. Next was Unibond Premier League opposition away to Marine but the Boro came
back victorious by winning 2-0. Next up was again away to Unibond Premier League

opposition in Burscough but Boro came back with a 1-1 draw before winning the replay
2-1. This was the first time in their 51 years that Radcliffe Borough had made it through
to the First Round Proper. York City won 4-1 on the day and also won 3-1 in the Second
Round at Reading before losing to Leicester City 3-0 in the Third. Programme is a glossy
30 pager for £1.
2015/16 PROGRAMMES (FIRST EVER)
6. AFC BOURNEMOUTH V ASTON VILLA (0-1) (PREMIER LEAGUE)
This was AFC Bournemouth’s first ever match in the Premier League as they faced
Aston Villa on the 8 August 2015. Sadly on the day the Cherries lost 1-0 to a Rudy
Gestedde header on 72 minutes in front of a crowd of 11,155. Programme is a massive
116 pages for £3.50.
7. T
RANMERE ROVERS V WOKING (1-0)(VANARAMA NATIONAL LEAGUE.)
Tranmere Rovers were relegated into Non-league football for the first time and this
match on the 8 August was at home against Woking. It was a struggle for the Rovers
but in the end the club from Birkenhead on Merseyside won by 1-0 with a goal from
Jay Harris on 57 minutes sent most of the 5583 supporters home happy. £3 for this
programme with 70 glossy pages.
8. BOREHAM WOOD V FC HALIFAX TOWN (3-1) (VANARAMA NATIONAL LEAGUE)
Boreham Wood got into the top non league through the play offs and in this their first
ever in the Vanarama National League beat Halifax Town by 3-1 with goals from Ricky
Shakes,Jamie Lucas and Sub. Harry Crawford with Barrow scoring for Halifax through
a penalty. Crowd of 701 watched the action in Hertfordshire. Programme is a a glossy
40 pages for £3.
9. BROMLEY V WREXHAM (3-1) (VANARAMA NATIONAL LEAGUE)
Bromley won the Vanarama South title last season and in this their first game in the
National League shocked Wrexham by winning 3-1. Wrexham scored first through Wes
York on 22 minutes before Bromley fought back and equalised through Sean Francis
on 24 minutes and then 5 minutes later took the lead Alex Wall scored with a low shot.
Moses Emmanuel sent the Bromley faithful ecstatic when he clinically finished on 43
minutes and that was how the score line ended. A crowd of 2083 enjoyed the action at
Bromley. £2.50 is the price for a glossy 40 page programme.
10. EDINBURGH CITY V QUEEN’S PARK (0-0) (Q.P WON PENS.) PETROFAC CUP
1ST ROUND
Edinburgh City were competing in the Petrofac Cup for the first time after winning the
Scottish Lowland League in 14/15 season. The Petrofac Cup is for teams not in the
Scottish Premier League and also the Scottish Lowland League Champions (Edinburgh
City) and the Highland League Champions (Brora Rangers). This match was to be
honest a poor game which neither team deserved to win and it was no surprise the
match went to a penalty shoot out which the League Side Queen’s Park won. Brora also
lost to Alloa Athletic by 1-0. Programme is in fact very hard to get as it was a sell out on
the day. The programme is a 44 page issue costing £2.
11. CUMBERNAULD COLTS V WHITEHILL WELFARE (SCOTTISH LOWLAND
LEAGUE)
This was Cumbernauld’s first ever match in the Scottish Lowland League as they
played host to Whitehill Welfare from Rosewell Midlothian. A cracking match saw
the Colts take the lead before Whitehill fought back to lead 2-1 before Cumbernauld
equalised but Whitehill won with a goal 4 minutes from the end. Crowd of 350 watched
the action played at Clyde’s Broadwood Stadium. Programme is £2 for a glossy 10 page
programme.
Radcliffe Borough Football
The Club was formed on 24th April 1949 at the Owd’ Tower Inn in Radcliffe by Mr
Jack Pickford, the home ground being Ashworth Street. They became members
of the South East Lancashire Football League where they won the South East
Lancashire Shield and the Bury Amateur League’s Parks Cup. In 1950-51 they
again won the South East Lancashire Shield plus the League Division Two title
and the W Moore Champions Cup. The following season 1951-52 saw the Club
complete the double, again winning the South East Lancashire Shield, together
with the Division One title. In 1952-53 the Club won the W Moore Champions
Cup, which they also achieved in 1954-55.
After a period in the South East Lancashire League the Club transferred to the
Manchester League and also to a new ground in Bright Street. Success was
limited to the Manchester Gylgryst Cup, which they won in season 1958-59 and
1960-61. In 1963 the Club joined the Lancashire Combination. In 1969-70 the
Club won the Lancashire Combination League Challenge Cup and the following
season were runners-up in the Lancashire Combination League. In 1970 the Club
moved to its present home at Stainton Park and in 1972 overdue success came
winning the League Cup and a third place finish in the League. Two years later the
Club applied and were accepted in to The Cheshire League, their first foray in to
Semi-professional football. The Cheshire League and Lancashire Combination
merged in 1982 to form the North West Counties League and in the first season
of the new league Radcliffe secured the Second Division Championship and in
the process secured it, beating Caernarfon Town in front of a still record Stainton

Park crowd of 1,468. After one season in the First Division, the Club lifted the
First Division Championship, were Runners-up in the Challenge Cup and also the
League Shield. In 1987-88 they were accepted in to the newly formed Northern
Premier League Division One. After several seasons of finishing in respectable
mid-table positions, season 1995-96 saw an upturn in the Club’s fortunes both
on and off the pitch. For the first time in its history the Club reached the last
16 of the prestigious FA Umbro Trophy narrowly losing to the then Conference
side Gateshead 2-1 in the final minute of the game. In
Manager
1996-97 the Club won its highest honour in winning
Danny
the Unibond First Division title by 2 points from their
Johnson
local rivals Leigh RMI. Unfortunately the Club’s stay
in the Premier Division lasted just one season, having
sacrificed the playing side for ground development to
ensure promotion. In 1997-98 the Club reached the
Manchester Premier Cup Final disappointedly losing
to Glossop North End at the then home of Manchester
City, Maine Road. For several seasons after the Club
finished in respectable positions and just missed out
on promotion in season 1999-2000 when a win at home against eventual
champions Accrington Stanley would have seen the Club promoted again. After
leading 2-0 with just fifteen minutes to go, Accrington managed the unthinkable
and came back to win the game 3-2 and promotion was lost.
One of the Club’s best achievements in its history to date was saved for the
Millenium Year when, for the first time in the Club’s history, Radcliffe reached
the First Round Proper of the AXA sponsored FA Cup. The game against York
City was played at Gigg Lane, home of Bury FC, and although the Club lost 4-1
in front of a record crowd of 2,495 for a Boro game, it was a fabulous day for
everyone connected with the Club and was a true measure of the progress the
Club was making. In season 2001-02 Radcliffe again missed out on promotion
when after leading the Division until mid February a poor run to the end of the
season meant that the Club were involved in the newly instituted Play-Offs,
which they subsequently lost to Bamber Bridge in the Semi Final at Irongate.
Promotion was again achieved in 2002-03 in what was a fantastic season for
the Boro despite missing out on the Championship by two points from Alfreton
Town, the eventual champions. Promotion was achieved through the Playoffs beating North Ferriby United in the semi final and Chorley in the final at
Stainton Park.

Radcliffe Borough Football
The Club also had a fantastic run in the FA Cup when they reached the 4th
Qualifying Round losing out to Conference side Chester City in front of an
excellent crowd of 1,138 at Stainton Park. Another highlight of that season
was the performance of Jody Banim, who scored 46 goals in what was an
unbelievable achievement for both him and the Club. With Boro back in
the Unibond Premier Division and a place up for grabs in the newly formed
Conference North the Boro needed to finish in the Top 13.
By November Radcliffe were on course to do this and were as high as sixth in
the league thanks to the 22 goals from Jody Banim, who set an English record by
scoring in 14 consecutive games, a record that still stands. However, the Club sold
Jody to Conference promotion chasers Shrewsbury Town in December 2003 for
a record fee received by the Club of £20,000. Without his goals Radcliffe slid
down the table and eventually finished 19th and entered
the Play-offs for the remaining places for Conference
North. Having beaten Whitby Town away on penalties
8-7 in the quarter finals, the Club then bowed out at the
next stage, losing at home to Burscough in the semi final.
After two seasons in the Premier League the Club were
relegated in 2006-07 after making the decision to
provide funds for the development of facilities at the
ground for future growth at the expense of funding the
playing side. In 2007-08 the Club made a disastrous start
to the league and were bottom in December without
one league win. The second half of the season was much better, relegation was
avoided and the Club reached two cup finals for the first time in 10 years. In the
first final, the Unibond Presidents Cup Final the Boro lost 2-0 to FC United of
Manchester but fared better in the Manchester Premier Cup Final where they
defeated Hyde United 2-1 to win their first silverware since 2003.
In 2008-09 Radcliffe competed in their tird final in two seasons when they
reached the final of the Lancashire Challenge Trophy. The final was held at the
County Ground in Leyland but in their first ever appearance in the final of this
competition they lost to Skelmersdale United in the last minute of extra time of
a thrilling game. The last four seasons has seen the Club finish 10th, 18th , 15th and
18th , never in danger of being relegated but at the same time never challenging
for promotion. The opening game of the 2014/15 season against Brighouse
town brought the shock resignation of long serving Manager/Director of football
Kevin Glendon with Paul Mcguire taking over. Kevin had been manager/director

together with Bernard Manning developed the ground and had a major part in
the building of the sports complex, new changing room block and a new stand.

Kevin also gained a reputation for producing, developing and selling young
players, seeing them progress and in most cases progressing to higher level clubs
earning the Club much needed revenue. Players such as Paul Mullin, Neil Hardy,
Jody Banim, Richard Battersby, Ciaran Kilheeney, Steve Foster, Danny Hurst
and most recently Craig Dawson. His teams Won NPL Division one title (1997),
Got to the first round of the FA Cup v York City(2000), Won NPL division one
play of final (2003), Won Manchester premier cup(2008), Finalists presidents
cup(2008) and Finalists Lancashire Trophy (2009).
In January 2015 managerial changes during the season saw the arrival of former
Trafford, Ashton United and Nantwich Town boss Danny Johnson, who stepped
in just hours before the Manchester Cup semi-final, which was narrowly lost to
Curzon Ashton. A good run towards the end of the season saw Danny and his
management team avoid relegation with ten points to spare.
PLAYERS
Over the years many former League players nave appeared for the Boro –
players such as Frank Worthington, Alan Kennedy, Peter Barnes, Len Cantello
Ian Bishop and many more, each of them enhancing the Club’s reputation.
FOOTBALL IN THE COMMUNITY
In 2003 the Club made a major decision to start their own Football in the
Community scheme. The initial three year scheme was in conjunction with Bury
MBC as partners. After this partnership ended the Club funded the scheme inhouse and as a result of this funding the scheme has been an enormous success
under the guidance of FITC Officer Peter Lofthouse and has further enhanced
the Club’s motto “More than just a Football Club”. The scheme involves
activities such as In school coaching, after school coaching, soccer schools,
birthday parties, schoolday match visits, Saturday morning clubs, mini-tots
coaching, junior tournaments and many more one off initiatives.

GROUND DEVELOPMENT
For many years the Club has invested in creating facilities for the whole
community to use and has seen close to £500,000 invested in the Club. Off
the field we are recognised as a Club building for the future and in this area has
made more progress than many other Non-league clubs. With the help of grants
from the Football Association, Football Foundation , Lottery Sports Fund, Club
funds and personal investment, the Club have so far been able to provide the
following initiatives:- Two floodlit all weather 3G pitches, the building of a new
Changing Room Complex also for the use of the Community, the building of a
new Sports Clinic, an upgrade to the terracing with a new terrace section, new
car parking space, purchase of the social club and refurbishment of the club
premises, the building of a new sponsors lounge, a new 350 seated stand and six
brand new Conference standard floodlights. These, together with other smaller
but just as important projects, have shown why the Club’s reputation has grown.
FRIENDS OF THE BORO
Supporters have been active in fund raising at many stages in the Club’s history,
but with a change of approach needed a new group, the “Friends of the Boro”,
was put in place in October 2014 to work with club management in raising funds
to support the team. This has brought new ideas and enthusiasm to enable the
Club to look forward to more successes in the future.

Moors strengthen again
Spennymoor Town Manager Jason Ainsley has released details of a new addition
to the squad. ‘Today we have completed the signing of left back Michael
Hoganson.
Michael is only 21 and has had a good grounding at Newcastle United FC academy
before moving to Derby County FC where he played 4 games in the championship
for them. Michael really wants to do well and play at a higher level, we believe that
Michael can achieve that with us. Michael will be a major asset for us and look
forward to seeing him in a Spennymoor shirt. Michael added ‘I’ve signed for the
club as I feel that it’s the right move for me and it’s only going to help me progress.
I like the way everything is run professionally and the facilities are top notch, we
have a strong squad and should be looking to get promoted this season.’
We look forward to seeing Michael in a Spennymoor shirt and welcome him to
the Brewery Field.
Stepping up to the Plate
Spennymoor Town Chairman Brad Groves has introduced a new catering service
for supporters.
The Club Shop has been fully refurbished to allow food to be served during the
games this season. The new service is being provided by Lesley Dobson who has
many years of experience in the catering trade and is scheduled to open at the
pre-season friendly with Darlington on Friday night. Lesley has known Brad since
school and has been in the pub and restaurant trade all of her working life and
currently runs the Delicious restaurant at Hetton Lyons Cricket Club. Part of that
arrangement was providing post match food for the Lyons Football team for the
last two years.
It was a natural progression then that Lesley started catering at Spennymoor
Town for the players and visiting officials at the start of preseason and the variety
of healthy food on offer has been very well received, though some cakes and
biscuits have also been welcomed by some. Supporters will be able to choose
from a range of food including Baps, filled with a choice of sirloin beef, pork with
apple and stuffing or thick cut bacon.
There will also be home-made steak mince pies as well as a range of cakes and
muffins, tea, coffee and cold drinks, sweets and even mix ups for the kids. There
will be seating and tables inside to provide a shelter for those who prefer to sit
inside.
We would like to welcome Lesley to the club and we are sure you love the standard
of the food on offer.
Player Leaving
Spennymoor Town Manager Jason Ainsley has today released news about
a player leaving the club. Jason told us earlier ‘Today we have decided to part
company with Robert Briggs to South Shields FC.
During his time with us it hasn’t quite worked out the way both the club and
Briggsy would have liked but sometimes that’s football and I’m sure he will be
a success at South Shields as he certainly has ability to do well there. We would
like to thank him for his time he has spent with the club and wish him well at his
new club.’
Travel News
The club operates a ‘pay and go’ system. This involves anybody wishing to travel
to away games to pay for their seat before travel. There will be no lists to reserve
your seat without payment. It will be based on a first come, first served basis.
Pay for your seat up front in order to guarantee travel to the away game. This is
designed to minimise club officials time, give the club a better idea of what buses
is required. On occasions there will be waiting lists, if the club cannot secure extra
people to fill subsequent coaches. Refunds will be offered or fans can carry that
payment over to the next bus and guarantee their seats that way. No reservations
will be made by forums or text. It is strictly payment up front.
Once payment has been paid, it cannot be refunded. The seat can be transferred
to another supporter and the club is to be notified in doing so. The payment of
the transfer is to be done between supporters and not the club. No anti-social
behaviour will be tolerated on any of the club coaches. Any incident reported to
the club will be investigated and then acted on accordingly. Bans from travelling
on club coaches will be enforced if the club deem actions were not satisfactory to
club rules. Any complaints regarding behaviour on the club coach is to be made
as soon as possible to Steve Lawson and the club will look into it.
The times of the coaches leaving and returning are to be adhered to. Any fan not
there for the departure on both journeys does so at their own inconvenience. The
club take no responsibility for this and cannot refund payments. Supporters are
not to enter onto the coach until the club official(s) who is overseeing the bus
has given the go ahead. We ask all fans to place their rubbish in bags provided on
board and we ask that you leave the coach as you found it.
A minutes Applause
My Grandad (Angus Brown) was a lifelong Spennymoor United fan and for
numerous years during the 1950s was the clubs secretary. After stepping down
as secretary he remained associated with the club for many years, never missing
a game both home and away until ill health prevented him from attending games.
Unfortunately he passed away on Wednesday 3rd August at the dear old age of
92. I am wondering in honour of his wonderful life, if players and coaching staff
are able to participate in a minute’s applause at the beginning of the first home
game of the season. My family and I would be very grateful if the club was able
to honour this.
