Personalized Stationery
once around an arts & crafts store Craft of the Week January 6, 2014 Personalized Stationery Materials Chipboard or other smooth, hard cardboard • Chipboard letters (optional) • Lightweight paper for your stationery Scissors or exacto knife (depending on thickness of cardboard) • Glue • Crayons with paper wrapper removed Optional: envelope template and various decorative papers (old artwork works great to make one-of-a-kind envelopes) How to 1. Cut your chipboard into a large rectangle at least as wide as your piece of stationery paper and about half as long. You want it to be large enough for your design to have lots of space from the the edges so that when you do your rubbing, you won't pick up the edges of your cardboard. 2. If you want to make monogrammed paper, select your initials from the chipboard letters or draw/trace them onto another piece of chipboard. Carefully cut them out making the edges of your letters as smooth as possible. 3. If you prefer to personalize your stationery with a design like a heart or bird, draw these onto your chipboard and carefully cut them out as above. 4. Arrange your initials or other design motif in the center of your large chipboard rectangle. Glue them into place & allow to dry. 5. Now comes the fun part! When the glue is totally dry, take a piece of paper and place it over your chipboard template. Gently holding your paper in place, lay your peeled crayon on its side and begin to rub over your template until your design is completely revealed. 6. Practice this several times to figure out how much pressure to apply and how to rotate the crayon in various directions to create the best design. If you are having trouble getting a clear rubbing, try a lighter weight paper. 7. Once you have your rubbing technique down, continue to make as much stationery as you want. Try it in different colors! 8. If you want to create one-of-a-kind envelopes from your fancy papers, use an appropriately sized envelope template to trace, cut and glue envelopes from your decorative papers. If you don't have an envelope template, find an envelope the size you want to make. Carefully open up all of the flaps and use this to trace as your template. 9. Have fun making different designs for your stationery. A stack of personalized stationery also makes a great gift! once around • 352 miller ave/mill valley, ca • 415.389.1667 • [email protected] • www.oncearound.com
