2010 world of wheels event is over and a successful one it was, despite the
politics involved. We as a club placed third in the club event and our
exposure at World of Wheels was successful in getting the word out to
potential new members about AMAC and what we are all about. We placed
behind the Mopar crew in second, the first place winners with a fabulous first time entry were the Pontiac
guys with a drive-in diner of the 60's. They got a well deserved standing O from us at the awards
presentation. Each of the six member cars in our entry were also successful in taking home some hardware
as well, congrats and our thanks goes out to them as well. Thanks to Jim and Gerry our event coordinators
and all the volunteers for your time involved in the building, transporting, setting up, manning the booth and
clean-up; and a very special thanks to members Bobby and Steve for providing their trailers and
transporting all that precious cargo to and from the show. .World of wheels is the kick off to the upcoming
driving season for most of us, and seeing all the cars gets me in the mood to do those little things to my
vehicles that I have been putting off through the winter months. The weather has been great in the last little
while and I have been noticing a lot of early muscle on the road already. I have been tempted myself but
have held back knowing that winter will be back for her last kick in our butt's at any moment. But hopefully
she will be gone soon and we will be able to bring our cars out of storage and enjoy them again, but take
care, as most of us have been driving our just adequate transportation during the winter and have
forgotten what horsepower is, so hold off on the right foot at least for the first fifteen minutes. I usually only
last until I put it in first gear.
The season is well under way with events in the planning stage, remember to get your tickets to the 2010
opening season event the Spring Fling, fun is sure to be had by all. Run to the Sun is fully booked although
there is rumor that a few rooms may still be available, lets pray for no snow like we experienced last year.
We have come up with a new event on the same day as the Presidential, our new directors Nick and
John will coordinate a used parts sale , I think we all have a few parts that we could stand to get rid of, with
five percent of sales going to the club and five percent going to the our charity the Calgary Women’s
Emergency shelter, so clean off those used parts. Nick and John will fill us in on their plan as we get closer
to the Presidential. Mid summer trip to Bellevue for the MCA Nationals is well beyond the planning stage
and many members have it on the calendar so if your in please drop me a line that you have booked so I
know who is coming, so far I have five cars confirmed. Get your Hotel booked for the International in the fall
you can always cancel should your plans change, once we get the cars on the road these events will fill up
fast. I have also been informed that the North West Cruise Calendar has been published so all indications
are that the season is upon us hopefully sooner than we think.

Gas Up & Dine at Heritage Park
The AMAC Lunch and Gasoline
Alley Museum tour at Heritage
Park was a great success, 39 or
our members attended. Lunch
was good, and I think most
would agree that the museum
is an excellent was to spend a
few hours.

RACE CITY UPDATE
As you probably have heard, Art McKenzie is still trying to negotiate the lease terms for Race City with
the City of Calgary. He is fighting a proposal from city administration that increases the yearly rent from
about $32,000 to over $1,000,000!!! Seems the city is trying to circumvent council's ruling that gives us
another 2 years to race.
Something to consider... the studies for the need for the dump space were all done prior to recycling,
which now removes about 60% of materials that once were landfilled.
I believe the only way for us to have a viable track is for Calgary to adopt the model of how the City of
Portland, Oregon runs their highly successful race facility. If would like further information of this model,
please email [email protected] and it will be forwarded to you. I personally have been on that track
(riding in an original 427 Cobra) and it is a great facility. Portland does get about a month of racing both
before and after our Race City is open, so Race City cannot generate the 30 to 40 million in economic
activity as Portland. However with proper management (which Race City has lacked) , surely 15 to 20
million dollars would easily be generated each year! Please request of copy of this info, and send it to
your alderman if you can. Show them what is possible... and they don't even have to re-invent the
wheel!

The Cars & Auction... they are just a nice to have
• Do you go to Barrett Jackson for the cars – maybe?
• Do to go to Barrette Jackson for the vendors & displays – maybe?
• Do you go to Barrett Jackson for the other auctions & car shows – maybe?
• Do you go to Barrett Jackson to be with other equally brain dead, automotively challenged individuals who are present or
future Viagra poster children all desperately seeking a mid-winter escape from work and the reality of life – Oh Yah Baby you
have found your vacation destination!!
The show itself is so secondary.. the trip.. the scenery… the good times with buddies.. the acres and acres of North American
muscle cars, European exotics.. the eye candy is everywhere and that my friend is why we should all go. And once you gone
that first time the urge to go back is hard to fight. The hell with Viagra, Barrett Jackson should bottle the essence of the show
and the show around the show and ED as we know it would be permanently resolved (that’s what Marty told me but that’s
another story I do not have time to discuss so we will have to shelve it for late). Maybe Doctor Phil could air an episode on this
phenomenon someday. Hell no maybe we need someone like Nicholas Cage or maybe Jay Leno to do that episode.
This year the weather was truly awful because it rained, poured and blew for the whole week. Our accommodation was dirty
and totally suspect. The food and booze was only average, excluding the Heart Attack Grille, that is another story because I
think I found true love there. The Russo & Steele auction suffered a huge loss when near tornado force winds tore the roof off of
their gigantic display tents. During the process of destroying the tents the torrential winds and rain collectively slammed poles,
wires and support beams down hard on hundreds of gleaming classics filling them to the rim with water, sand and debris.. It
was complete mayhem, highways shut down because the tents super structure and canvasses were strung across four lanes of
traffic. Barrett Jackson barely, and I mean barely, avoided the same fate as two of their tents and the supporting beams swayed
in the wind with lighting and banners moving violently side to side and back and forth. It was so cool you had to be there! For
some, the unfortunate car owners, it wrecked their whole experience but for the majority of us it just added to the excitement…
we were having way too much fun to still have our pants on. They say it is not the trip but the journey that counts, this time we
had a special journey!!
First and only rule for Barrett Jackson.. share a Bidder’s Pass with someone else because it is a bargain. For $500 we get two
people into the Bidders area, free parking right across from the display tents, free admission for 6 days and most importantly
120 free drink tickets (20 per night). You nearly break even on the admission and parking if you go every day plus you can go
up on stage any time during the auction and you can even attend the free gala night if you so desire. Wait, there is a second
more important rule - don’t drink & drive., bring someone along as a designated driver or keep it to a minimum, it’s safer and
ensures that you will be back tomorrow.
This year the turnout from the Calgary car clubs was a total shock to me. Every time I turned around I was bumping into guys
from our club and other Calgary based clubs. I think I even saw Bill Knight from the Northern Mopar Club driving the new Fiat /
Dodge 500C with some lady at his side that needed to shave really badly, but maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me,
maybe it was a just that rental Mustang convertible that he was driving. I could go on but that’s another story I do not have time
to discuss, so we will have to shelve it for later. The auction house crowd from Calgary was well represented by Frank Sissons,
Harold Henninger and the Electric Car Garage guys from Red Deer and Penticton.
My travelling companions, Gary and Marty, were total slabs of unenjoyment. Their only saving grace was that they helped defer
the costs and also the fact that Marty can clear a row of seats with his powerful “man essence”, but once again that’s another
story that I do not have time to discuss so we will shelve it for later. For example every time I wanted to check out the latest
books and videos from Dr. Phil or Oprah they reigned me back in. Every time I wanted to buy something sweet and caring for
our wives they reigned me back in, every time I wanted to look at home furnishing or get South Western decorating ideas they
reigned me back. They FORCED me to drink my fair share of the 20 drinks per day that comes with the Bidder Pass, they
FORCED me to watch the “silicone sister” parade that was always in front of the camera and block my view of the stage, they
FORCED me to tour rows and rows and rows of seemingly perfect muscle cars, exotics, trucks, hot rods and classic highway
cruisers. Heck they even FORCED me to take part in a road trip to the Heart Attack Grill! It was hell they put me through! If you
believe that, Norm has some land in Florida…

The Heart Attack Grill is a unique blend of grease laden mega burgers and lard laden fries and Dr. Jon (an actual nutritionist
by trade) and his bevy of hotty and semi-naughty nurses. Combining ½ lb – 2lb slabs of delicious greasy burgers named after
heart by-pass surgery with a restaurant where no diet pop is allowed, where the buffet is an all you can eat “fry bar” you have
created a fat man’s dream restaurant. The burgers, by the way, were the best burgers I have tasted in 20 years, the fries were
sinful. Dr Jon has approved a policy that if you are over 350lbs your burger is free. If you are a smaller guy Dr Jon offers you
the option to pay him $499 per year for an all exclusive, all you can eat Pass that opens the door to hamburger heaven, this
does seem appropriate because you will most likely be dead in 365 days or less if you try to eat 500 grams of lard fat per day
for 365 days! By the way the hot and semi-naughty nurses, closely supervised by Dr Jon, assist the patrons to fulfill their
carnivoric urges while allowing themselves time to exercise their eyes while watching skilled medical technicians “administer”
to their patients. Even Alby joined us at this magnificent love fest and survived without incident, but that’s another story that I
do not have time to discuss so we will shelve it for later.
We saw cars that would make any car hobbyist drool. The new Iacocca Mustang looks like a shimmering silver bullet,
extraordinarily sensual from every angle. We spent 20 minutes discussing the car with the actual designer, Michael Leone,
and his partner Denice Halicki, the wife of the maker of the original “Gone in 60 Seconds” movie. Michael was a very
entertaining guy and loved to talk about how he and “Mr. Iacocca” got together to build the car, really cool and informative. By
the way Denice Halicki who must be well into her late 40’s or early 50’s is still an absolutely stunning and funny lady but that’s
another story I do not have time to discuss so we will have to shelve it for later. Asking price for the Iacocca Mustang is now a
cool $125,000. Ouch big time!! If the Iacocca had been sub $80,000 the Barrett Jackson would have been put up for sale.
The new 2011 Shelby GT350 was debuted at Barrett Jackson and it was another big attraction. The car had Alby and Gary in
a total photo-optic frenzy, each clicked off 100’s of shots. The car itself is clean with many historical touches from the original
car. I personally think this might be the best new “Shelby” yet and given the choice between a new GT500 and the GT350 my
gut says you would pick the Shelby GT350. From what the Shelby rep told me the first year or so of cars are already presold,
at around $70,000, with many of the customers being big name car guys and celebrities. I wonder if Anne would consider
taking a part-time job at Wally Mart to fund the acquisition of something as lovely as her. I know this is pure unadulterated
sucking up to the Boss but luckily I’m absolutely unburdened by scruples so this is an allowed man-tactic. I have heard that
Russ has used this line before but that’s another story I do not have time to discuss so we will have to shelve it for later.
My big mouth almost got me in trouble.. again. Late one evening at the Barrett Jackson I was taking things easy and due to
the many free margarita’s I was feeling no pain. In this situation I was doing what I typically do. I was flapping my lips and
questioning the manhood of poor old Gary and Marty. Then out of the corner of my I eye I spotted this anomaly, this creature
from DuPont, this mega star of plastic surgery gone so wrong - I was almost speechless. Standing only 50 feet from me, in
the direct line of the camera and the stage was this bleach blood surgical nightmare. Her face was like a fully stretched rubber
band, her hair looked like it lost a battle with a family of nesting rats, her 5’ 10” 100lb frame made her a waif of a women all
unpleasantly contrasted with by a pair of beach balls strapped to her 12” wide chest. Silicone bloated enhancements were
protruding from every corner of her bra. She was so disproportional that she could not put her arms down by her side because
some of her enhancements overflow sideways and under her arms. She was the classic Barrett Jackson “niece” that follow the
old rich guys around like lost puppy dogs. Think of it as a “Trophy Wife” gone horribly wrong. So as she strolled by our location
I commented to Gary and Marty that I thought that she was pushing the laws of physics too far and that possibly some of her
attributes were perhaps false and un-human like. Unfortunately due to my advanced state of intoxication my quiet inside voice
had been pushed aside by my loud and obnoxious outside voice! In a moment of pure terror I realized what I had said and
done, Gary and Marty were sitting there looking back at me completely dumfounded, I thought I was dead. Then to my horror
another young lady in front of me turned around and glared directly into my eyes, now surely I was dead. Then the young lady
said, as she looked right into eyes, in an even louder voice than mine “ You are so right, I knew those were fake when I saw
them yesterday”. How do you respond to this type of reaction, quite simple actually, we all laughed our head offs! My inside
voice took over control from then on for the rest of the night but that’s another story I do not have time to discuss so we will
have to shelve it for later.
Great times, great fun, great people, great cars, free booze. I can’t wait for next time. For Martin, Mark, Alby, Russ, Wayne,
John, Vic, Ron, Rick, Bruce, Neil, Mike, Bill and the rest of the guys I met down in Phoenix, see you next year. Do not miss it
guys!

World of Wheels – It was a Special Year
This year the crew did a fabulous job and true to Jim’s & Gary’s game plan we had all new cars from many new members.
This is so important because the Boy’s know that fresh cars, fresh ideas and fresh backs make the annual WOW event one
that everyone can enjoy. My hat is off to all involved and all the members who helped over the weekend. I think those involved
had a memorable event.
I personally felt a little guilty about of our club display this year. Because of work commitments I just did not have the time to
help and I missed the “building bonding” that goes on every year. I did luck out this year in that Albert Ogusuku organized a
second group of cars for a private WOW display. I did absolutely nothing other than showing up with my Camaro. We
collectively had a total ball. Albert even got the “Fonze” to stop by for a group picture with the “Alby & Friends” display.
Together with Mark Hopkins, Scott Hadley, Dave Eamon and Ross Noble we all had a totally unique experience thanks to
Alby’s hard work. As it related to awards every one of our car in the two groups won a personal award and the club placed
third in the club display. Overall one of our best to date shows.
My personal favorite memories from this year’s WOW came from four very special young people. Albert’s granddaughter
Katherine and her little brother Kirkland are always special guests at the various car events. I have seen them with their
Grandpa many times and you can see the mutual respect and love they share. Both of Alby’s grandchildren are polite fun kids
who seem to thrive on their time with Grandpa Albert. This year they came down to the show to help their Grandpa with his
display and see the cars. They both really enjoy viewing the cars with Katherine sporting a pink Shelby hat and Hoodie while
young Kirkland has a really cool black Mustang jacket. I always try to find the time to play with both of them. Usually we end
up laughing about a little joke or trick I played on them or on me. This time young Kirkland colored a picture of my car as a
thank you for a cotton candy I bought him. I was very touched by the picture, so much so I’m framing that picture and it will be
put in a very special spot in my den. Grandpa and the grandchildren enjoying the hobby. it is something they can share for
years. Lucky for them.
I also had the pleasure of meeting two young men courtesy of club member Gerry Giacomelli. Gerry was doing something
special for these two young men who are dealing with a serious illness in the family. Gerry and his wife Leslie thought that the
boys needed a break so he brought them to the show. As he was showing the Mustangs to both boys I snuck over and
mentioned to the boys that “Chicks dig Camaro’s more than Mustang’s”! That started a fun back and forth friendly feud over
the merit of each car. We all had a great laugh over it which hopefully gave the boys a short break from their worries and
cares. Later the next day Gerry told me the whole story and then the similarity hit me, and it hit me hard because that was me
45 years ago. We agreed to meet up with the boys and their Dad for the Spring Thaw in April. This time we will all be behind
the wheel of a Mustang or Camaro. Should be a great time.
I truly believe that kind
and caring people like
Alby and Gerry are what
our club is all about. Car
guys
helping
friends,
family
and
strangers
through
the
mutual
enjoyment that our hobby
can bring. I realize now
that time is precious so I
think I will make a
concerted effort to enjoy
every minute of this year’s
driving season. “Sunny
Side Up” is my Moto for
2010!! I can already smell
the burning rubber!

New 2011 Mustang GT vaults to the top of its class
with final fuel economy certified by the EPA this
week at 26 mpg highway and 17 mpg city.
The Mustang GT – carrying a 412-horsepower 5.0-litre V-8 engine and six-speed manual transmission –
delivers incredible acceleration in addition to fuel economy, thanks in part to the flexibility of the six-speed
manual transmission
The entire Mustang lineup now achieves segment-leading fuel economy with the Mustang V-6 being the
first car ever to deliver 305 hp and 31 mpg and the Mustang GT achieving best-in-class fuel economy of 26
mpg
DEARBORN, Mich., March 16, 2010 – The 2011 Ford Mustang GT, powered by a new 412-hp 5.0-litre V-8 engine,
adds yet another notch to its belt: an EPA rating of 26 mpg highway when equipped with the six-speed manual
transmission, giving it the best fuel economy in its class.
“The 2011 Mustang continues to exceed expectations in every category, and these fuel economy numbers are
another chapter in an incredible story,” said Derrick Kuzak, Ford’s group vice president, Global Product
Development. “To offer this kind of horsepower and class-leading fuel economy in a comfortable, beautiful, techsavvy and affordable package – it’s really unprecedented.”
With the six-speed manual transmission, Mustang GT coupe is rated at 17 mpg city and 26 highway, while models
with the available six-speed automatic achieve 18 mpg city and 25 highway.
The GT’s best in class fuel numbers come on the heels of the Mustang V-6, which just last week cracked the record
books as not only the most fuel-efficient Mustang ever, but also the first production car in history to produce 305
horsepower and 31 mpg highway.
Mustang GT is powered by an all-new 5.0-litre double-overhead-camshaft (DOHC) V-8 with a host of advanced
features to deliver the combination of power and class-leading fuel economy.
Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) adjusts the valve train in microseconds depending on driver
inputs. A carefully tuned intake and exhaust system ensures free breathing at all engine speeds. And all-aluminum
construction results in a lightweight yet durable powerplant.
A pair of new transmissions, both with six forward ratios, also play a large part in making the 2011 Mustang a
breakthrough car. Regardless of whether drivers want to shift for themselves or let the car shift for them, they’re
treated to carefully chosen gear ratios to maximize fuel economy while still delivering high-horsepower performance
“Mustang power-train development has reached a point where customers don’t have to choose between fuel
efficiency and performance,” says Barb Samardzich, Ford vice president of Global Powertrain Engineering. “Thanks
to technologies like Ti-VCT and our six-speed gearboxes, a Mustang driver has the best of both worlds.”
