MUSTANGER 2 JUNE 2015 P re s i d e n t ’ s re p o r t A . K . A . June? Really? Already? It does not seem to compute, as it seems like mere days ago that the trees had no leaves, grass was not mow-able yet, and planting any thing that would be susceptible to frost was a definite nono. Now here we are, the lilacs are all done, and in a mere 3 weeks daylight hours will be at their maximum and starting actually getting shorter! WTH! Try to wrap your mind around this, IMM is a less than 3 months away!!!! Back up the truck! Seriously though, this year we have been blessed with exceptional weather, at least from a Calgary car guy's perspective. My car has been on the road since WOW weekend, and barring a few bad days and the usual May long cluster, have been able to log some serious rock chip free miles, and not stuck in a rainstorm…yet, Hah. Firefighters and our neighbors, friends and family to the north of us will have quite a different opinion unfortunately. Hats off to everyone involved in the fire fight, first responders, donators and all the volunteers that risked life and limb to help out. Our thoughts are with those that have lost so much. Here's to a speedy recovery! MUSTANGER 3 JUNE 2015 P re s i d e n t ’ s re p o r t A . K . A . What a great summer it is shaping up to be! It looks like there is an event almost every day of the week and evening, plus a multitude of things to do every weekend! With Wild Wednesday starting up on the 8th, Cars and coffee every Tuesday in Quarry Park, A+W every Thursday and Friday evening plus the weekend events, it makes me more than happy that premium is still below 1.25 litre! I'm sure that will change soon though…bummer. Keep an eye on your in box for details of the Electric Garage Auction coming to the Grey Eagle Casino on June 18 and 19th. Don and Ruth Nelson, some of our longest standing and lifetime honorary members, will be having their beloved Mustangs cross the block pushed by volunteers of our own club! I think this is the perfect time for us to come together us a club and show our appreciation for their dedication over the years, and support them in this saddening time. A reminder to all that come July 1 the registration fees for IMM are increasing to $60, so if you haven't registered yet, get on it! BBQ tickets are going fast, and if you don't get them now you will be S.O.L. So, with the sun still shining this evening, and a really good forecast for the cruise to Lethbridge this Saturday, the time has come to go for a rip and splatter some more bugs on the car to clean! See you out there and stay safe! Scott Thomson MUSTANGER 4 JUNE 2015 MUSTANGER 5 JUNE 2015 UPCOMING AMAC MEETINGS AND EVENTS AMAC Brunch Sat. I have begun a new article called Reader’s Rides . I am hoping to bring a face and name to the cars we have in our large stable. I am going to mix an older car or member with a newer car and member. That way we all can learn who our established members and new members are. I only ask that if you wish yourself and your ride (doesn’t have to be a pony, just a FoMoCo) to be in an upcoming newsletter, that a nice clear picture of yourself and your ride (in the same picture) be included with a bit about yourself, your ride, why you like or picked a Ford or Ford product! Any information you provide will help us get to know YOU! I look forward to seeing some great pictures and some great stories! I have started to save some old advertisements, articles, and general automotive information. I urge any of you to help me on this and send some smaller one page ads or articles to me so I can post them in Remember When. Last but not certainly least is a feature I found that this publishing program can do. It is a useful tool called hyperlinking. I have been able to go throughout our newsletter and add these hyperlinks to the business ads, which in turn takes you directly to their site! Any businesses that didn’t have a web address was linked to their yellow pages listing. I hope you find this feature handy. I will be hyperlinking business ads as well as any sponsors to our Presidential and of course the sponsors for the International Mustang Meet. I welcome your feedback. Report any broken links so I can have them ready for the next issue. You can send articles, pictures, or any general inquiries to [email protected]. Keep the shiny side up! Mark Harkness Newsletter Editor/Vice President MUSTANGER 8 JUNE 2015 Don’t forget to join us for brunch every second Saturday of the month at 10 am at the Glenmore Inn. MUSTANGER 9 JUNE 2015 2016 Spring Comedy MUSTANGER 10 JUNE 2015 MUSTANGER 11 JUNE 2015 In and around April the club hosts a Spring Fling. This is typically the “unofficial kickoff ” to our upcoming season. It allows us the opportunity to come out with our fellow Mustangers and enjoy an evening of drinks, supper, and entertainment. This year we were able to have LoriFerguson Ford come out and entertain us with her Stand-up routine! MUSTANGER 12 JUNE 2015 CALGARY’S PREMIER WEEKLY CRUISE NIGHT STARTS JUNE 8, 2016 MILITARY MUSEUM 4520 CROWCHILD TR SW ALL VEHICLES WELCOME MUSTANGER 13 JUNE 2015 Larry and Maureen Anderson Hey this is my Mustang story - an old fart trying to re-live some of his teenage years. Had a Road Runner and a heavy foot when I was younger - I loved that big boat, but I ended up with too many speeding tickets and had to settle for a VW Bug as my next car. Muscle cars just get into your blood, bikes do for me with as well. I’ve attended many car shows over the years, falling in love with sooo many, and not been able to take any home to show the wife. I’ve always loved Mustangs - which a few of my bud’s drove. A few years back I started looking for a 67-68 fastback which I soon gave up because the well restored were expensive and I didn't have the space nor the tools to restore one. While searching for a good 67-68 back in 2011, I came across this low mileage beautiful (too me) 2008 GT 500. I watched the price for a few weeks and when the owner dropped the price I made the call. I said to the owner - if it is as advertised (2800 miles (US car), no accidents, always store in doors), I was interested. When I saw a picture of the interior he sent with ‘towels over the floor mats’, I was in. The car was in Duncan BC. Once I got the it home I went though all the documents (this Guy had every piece of paper that recorded the history and service since it was new). I discovered it’s first owner lived in Omak Washington and it appeared he was forced to sell it, with only about 800 miles on it due to the 2008 market crash. The records indicated that the second owner from Duncan just drove it around a bit - to the dealer and back for service. Anyhow - that’s how I ended up with my Grabber Orange 2008 GT 500, and I love it. Haven't received a ticket yet - you just need to stay well behind Scott. My plans are to leave it pretty much stock (except for a couple of minor add-ons) - it’s cheaper to keep her that way, besides I like stock. I did buy if to drive it, however I just don't get her out as much as I would like. MUSTANGER 14 JUNE 2015 Wayne Coulter I’m Wayne Coulter. I am a new member this past year. I started driving...like many of you, my old mans’ 1958 Ford pickup. Along with that I drove his Flatnose 3 in the tree E100 Econoline. I have owned many Fords throughout my lifetime, beginning with a 1989 Taurus. I factory ordered my 14’ with Track Pack from Cam Clark in 13’. It was delivered to me in June. I have done a few modifications already with more in the works! I look forward to meeting more of you and am ready for the car show season. MUSTANGER 15 JUNE 2015 Something Fun. http://www.americantorque.com/game/ MUSTANGER 16 JUNE 2015 MUSTANGER 17 JUNE 2015 AMAC is proud to help raise funds for two great charities: AMAC events for 2015 will be partly in support of the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter. Fund raising for this wonderful agency will now be a part of each of our events. This means when you participate in a club event part of your admission or registration costs will go to the Shelter. One more great reason to participate in AMAC activities. The Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter is a nonprofit agency that provides emergency shelter for women and children escaping domestic violence. We also offer support and prevention programs For more information see their website at: www.calgarywomensshelter.com PROSTATE CANCER CANADA NETWORK CALGARY Formed in 1995, Prostate Cancer Canada Network Calgary has 3 missions: For more information go to www.pccncalgary.org MUSTANGER To support men and their families on the journey with prostate cancer To increase public awareness of the disease To provide a strong provincial voice in matters relating to prostate cancer 18 JUNE 2015 IMM UPDATE Hey AMAC, your IMM Committee is excited to be getting closer to the big weekend! We are actually at the point now where the trophies and the t-shirts have been ordered – I know you are going to love both! The preliminary show site layout is complete, we are waiting on our sponsors and vendors space requirements to get this finished up, this will be done over the next two months. Registration is going well, we are over 250 cars so far, banquet and BBQ tickets are selling very well! The shuttle buses between the Sandman & Grey Eagle for the Kegger on Friday are booked, as well the shuttle will run between the Grey Eagle, Sandman and Chinook Centre on Saturday, this will be a great convenience for our guests. Bob Walker has some fun and interesting cruises/tours planned for you and our guests on Sunday! The BBQ at Lynnwood Ranch is shaping up to be a lot of fun, so get your tickets, as this one is going to sell out! This show would not be possible without the hard work of your committee, so thanks to Bruce, Martin, Gary & Neil. Also thanks to those of you who have volunteered to help throughout the weekend, we will still be needing volunteers and will be sending out another request sometime in June. The spring IMM meeting on April 23rd went well, I think we have assured the committee that we are good to go, and that it will be a great show, Russ Penner & Wayne Hume will tell you about the meeting in their summary. Remember that the registration price jumps July 1st to $60.00, so make sure to get that crossed off your list before the end of June, we will be at the Presidential on June 25th ready to take your IMM registrations. We are getting down to the wire now folks, so hold on to your (cowboy) hats, and pray for a hot & sunny labour day weekend! Cindy MUSTANGER 19 JUNE 2015 April 17th 2016 marked the first National Mustang Day! Our club went on a cruise to Canmore, partaking in an incredible day with some avid Mustangers who were not afraid to get those ponies out this early! MUSTANGER 20 JUNE 2015 Did you know that over $15,000 was raised in support of Calgary Meals on Wheels and the Calgary Veterans Food Bank from food and beverage sales at Wild Wednesday this summer! Wild Wednesdays are officially over at this location. A BIG thanks to Grey Eagle for all they do for the Calgary car community over the past couple of years.
