Hollywood’s Hottest Young Male Stars Pose For Limited-Edition Book
Proceeds benefitting the charity Smile Train.
(BEVERLY HILLS, CA – January 2010) What do stars Jason Lewis (Sex and the City), Taylor Kitsch
(Friday Night Lights), Ian Somerhalder (The Vampire Diaries), Gilles Marini (Brothers & Sisters), and
Ryan Kwanten (True Blood) have in common? They all volunteered to pose with over 100 other
celebrities and top models for About Face, a stunning limited-edition book of portraits by top celebrity
photographer John Russo, scheduled for a February 2010 release by Pixie Press Worldwide. Their efforts
enable the charity Smile Train to perform free cleft lip and palate surgeries to children around the
world.
“There’s a bold, direct honesty to Russo’s Portraits.” – Greg Gorman
Cover, About Face
The book merits historical significance due to its 160–pages of black and white photographs shot with
the soon-to-be-extinct Type 55 Polaroid film. The book has already grabbed the attention of editors
familiar with Russo’s ambitious project. As MetroSource magazine remarks in their advance praise
for About Face, “Over the course of [About Face] a conversation between the words and images
emerges; the result is a book about aesthetics that is surprisingly thought-provoking.” This project
represents a labor of love for Russo who spent four years capturing his subjects—many of whom were
photographed before their first big break and the effects and pressure of Hollywood.

According to Publisher Jordana Woodland, when Pixie Press Worldwide heard that celebrity
photographer John Russo was shooting a series of portraits with Type 55 Polaroid film, she was
intrigued. “When Russo showed us the first prints, we were struck by their bold simplistic beauty and our
About Face collaboration began,” explains Woodland. The creative mission was to record the raw
beauty, intrigue, and power of the male face by using natural light and no makeup.
About Face is cloth bound, 160 pages, 10.25 x 12.50 inches, signed limited-edition of 1500 copies.

shooting a series of portraits with Type 55 Polaroid film, we were intrigued. As fate would
have it, we were searching for a project that would highlight the unique photographic
qualities of this soon-to-be-extinct film. When John showed us the first prints, we were
struck by their bold, simple, beauty and our About Face collaboration began. Ourcreative
mission was to publish a book that celebrated the raw beauty, intrigue, and power of

Although Type 55 film may be gone forever, it will live on through the timeless images in
this book. We hope you enjoy the labors of this dream as much as we have.
