The micro economic reform agenda commencing in the
late 1980s ushered in radical changes to approaches to
building control in Australia, promising increased efficiency
and economic prosperity to improve cost of living and the
Australian way of life.
National harmonisation of codes and standards has been
a key initiative, as has the privatisation of the building
approval process. The introduction of performance based
methodologies has also increased flexibility and adoption
of latest technologies, and the changes implemented to
date confirm that a dramatic change in approach has been
steadily implemented.

The Fiona Wood Foundation is an independent not-for-profit
organisation which exists to reduce the devastation caused by
the physical, psychological and social impacts of burn injury.
The foundation exists for current and future patients with the
knowledge that every intervention from the point of injury
influences the scar worn for life.
‘SPRAY ON SKIN’
One of Fiona’s early achievements was the
development of a skin culture lab that she
co-founded with scientist Marie Stoner.
Professor Wood and Marie recognised the
potential of tissue engineering technology
to treat burns and in 1993 developed a skin
culture facility with support from a Telethon grant. Their product
evolved into aerosol-delivered cell-clusters, and is known as
‘spray-on skin’. This technology is a world-first and has been
used on more than 1,000 patients around the world.

MAX ‘TANGLES’ WALKER
Max Walker is one of a unique group of sportsmen who
has played both Test Cricket and AFL Football, but it’s been
a long time since Max exited the fiercely competitive arenas
of elite sport.
Max has been fortunate to have been able to morph his life
in many directions – sport, architecture, writing, media, public
relations and now multi-media platforming.
He is passionate about raising the personal and corporate bar,
stretching capability, simplifying and clarifying communication.
