The Ultimate Musical Experience...
Never before has there been a musical instrument like the Kawai Concert Performer – an instrument with so
much power, such wonderful sound, and now the world’s first digital ensembles with CD-R technology.
Harmonic Imaging™ sound technology and intuitive design have been combined with dozens of innovative
features to create the ultimate musical experience for beginners and professionals alike.
Concert Performer Features
Sounds
The Concert Performer has over 900 instrument and vocal sounds. Sounds are
organized into instrument “families” and easily accessed by the Sound category
buttons. The Feature sound category is a special collection of the most
expressive solo acoustic instruments. The Vocal category contains dozens of
Jazz, Contemporary, and Classic vocal sounds.
Song Stylist
Song Stylist makes using the Concert Performer quick and simple by providing
the perfect “setup” for over 700 of the most popular songs of all time. Search
the list for your favorite song, press SELECT and you’re ready to play. The
perfect style, right and left-hand sounds, and volume mix are automatically
selected for the chosen song.
Piano Music
There are over five hours of pre-recorded piano music in the Concert Performer.
Simply press the PIANO MUSIC button and choose from Classical,
Contemporary and Holiday Music. You can play any song or play all the songs
in any category in random order. You can also create a list of your ten favorite
selections from each category.
Concert Magic
Kawai’s exclusive Concert Magic provides anyone the thrill of playing real
music, even if they’ve never played before. Simply select one of the 176 songs
and tap any key. Follow the Note Navigator to play the correct rhythm or select
the Lyrics screen to sing along to the bouncing ball.
Styles
The Concert Performer has 220 accompaniment styles to help your music
sound more complete and professional. Styles are organized into musical
“genres” and are easily accessed by the STYLE category buttons. The 1-2 PLAY
button provides an appropriate “setup,” including right and left-hand sounds, for
the selected accompaniment style.
Conductor
The Style Conductor provides an easy and unique way to mix and match
musical “phrases” within an accompaniment style. Choose your favorite drummer,
bassist, guitarist, etc. to create millions of variations of the Concert Performer’s
220 styles.
Recorder
There are two modes to the CP recorder. Use the Easy Record mode to make
quick recordings of your “live” playing. You can also re-record and overdub in
this mode. The Advanced Recorder is a 16-track recording studio with
professional features such as a mixing console and event editor. You can save
your recordings to floppy disk in a variety of formats.
Registration Groups
There are 8 registration buttons on the Concert Performer’s panel. Each
button contains a “setup” that selects a style, right and left-hand sounds, and
other details automatically. Pressing the REGIST GROUPS button provides
access to 20 different pre-programmed registration groups – 160 registrations
in all. You can also save your own registrations to any of the 160 locations.
CD-R
The Concert Performer CP205 and CP175 are the world’s first digital pianos with a recordable audio CD drive.
You can record CDs of your “live” playing, internal songs, and MIDI files. You can even record vocals and
other instruments via the MIC input. Your completed CD can then be played in any audio CD player.

The Kawai Concert Performer ensemble pianos are truly groundbreaking instruments. Using our exclusive
Harmonic Imaging sound technology along with an expanded sound library, these instruments reproduce
sounds with amazing clarity and expression.
We began with the world’s finest concert grand… the handcrafted Kawai EX
Concert Piano. Using state-of-the-art digital equipment, our sound specialists
meticulously recorded the rich tone of this exceptional piano in the anechoic
chamber at our advanced Grand Piano Research Facility. Since each dynamic
level of the piano carries a unique harmonic signature, our engineers created
extremely accurate stereo “maps” of the entire dynamic range for each key.
Next, Kawai developed a proprietary new process called Harmonic Imaging to transform this vast “harmonic
portrait” into a vibrant re-creation of the EX Concert Piano. Harmonic Imaging faithfully reproduces the rich
dynamic range of the original piano, from delicate pianissimos to thunderous fortissimos.
Harmonic Imaging technology also brings a new level of authenticity to all the other
Concert Performer sounds, especially the exciting new Feature and Vocal sounds.
Thanks to Harmonic Imaging, each of the CP Series ensemble pianos contains
hundreds of the most realistic sounds ever produced.

As one of the world’s premier builders of acoustic pianos, Kawai has long understood the vital importance of
“feel” to the pianist. For this reason, Kawai has been a pioneer in the use of real wooden keys in our digital
pianos.
The CP205, CP175, and CP155 all utilize our AWA PRO action. With an extra-long wooden key, this action
brings to our digital pianos the same balance point, key movement
and hammer motion found in our fine grand pianos.
Additionally, the electronic contacts have been placed above
the hammers to accurately re-create the “strike point” of a
grand piano. Finally, the wooden keys have been graded and
counter-balanced to re-create both the static and dynamic
weight of our grand piano action.
The CP185 features our Advanced Hammer Action III, which
utilizes an industry standard graded hammer to simulate the feel
of a real piano. This action delivers an accurate response that
will satisfy even the most discerning pianist.
