BARNADAS HUANG 15 – 18 MAY 2014 Didier Lourenço Fernando Adam Frank Jensen Jon Landa Ramon Enrich Ulpiano Carrasco Victor Pedra b. 1968 b. 1968 Didier Lourenço was born in Premià de Mar, Barcelona in 1968 and worked at his father's print studio when he was only 19. His stunning paintings are representational in nature, using bold colours amidst neutral backgrounds to create remarkable paintings that manage to capture and evoke fleeting moments and emotions. His very distinctive style spans different palettes and settings, including images of crowded plazas and Mediterranean landscapes. He has won numerous art prizes in Spain (including at the Premio de Pintura Joven de la Sala Parés de Barcelona), and has exhibited across continents, including in South Africa, Hong Kong, Sweden and the United States. He complemented his artistic studies with professional practices in carpentry and industrial design to be later integrated in the early stages of his work. In his recent work Adam goes further in the investigation of these constructive and poetic qualities. The surface of the canvas is broken into fragments to create a sense of something between two and three dimensions. The painting as an object becomes then a frame to rearm the scattered pieces together. Fernando's works are exhibited in prominent galleries in the United States, Italy, Spain and France. He currently lives and works in Barcelona, Spain. Referred to by the artist as "the crossing of Versailles with your everyday vegetable garden," the paintings of Ramón Enrich are created by the multiple applications of thin layers paint that are subsequently frottéed and even erased from the canvas, resulting in evocative images that recall piazzas of antiquity or greco-egyptian agoras with the serenity of Pompeiian frescoes. A strong sense of perspective, a rich chromatic register and an ironic use of industrial and rural architectural structures (often marked with large and enigmatic typographic forms) in an endless landscape b. 1968 devoid of any figures, present the viewer with a stage set for a play yet to be realized. As Luis Eduardo Aute remarked in his catalogue essay for the artist, "They are habitats that never were or ever will be inhabited.” Laveve Oil on Canvas 165 x 130 cm Dak Oil on Canvas 160 x 250 cm Damo I Acrylic on Canvas 67 x 67 cm Damo II Acrylic on Canvas 61 x 46 cm Seven A.M.
