8th Annual Tina Croucher
Scholarship Benefit Luncheon
Showers of
Blessings...
CADV’s spring fundraiser, the Tina
Croucher Scholarship Benefit Luncheon
is set for April 27 at 12:30 pm in the Little
Miami Ballroom at the Manchester Inn. The
theme this year is “Showers of Blessings.”
Proceeds from the luncheon and the
raffling of theme baskets will go toward
college scholarships for area high shool
and college students. The featured speaker
will be one of CADV’s past scholarship
recipients, Julie Boak. Ms. Boak is a 2006
honor graduate from Bishop Fenwick and
is currently a sophomore at the Ohio State
University. She will be speaking on what
it meant to her to receive the scholarship, and for the first time publicly, her strides to
overcome an abusive childhood. Please make your reservations by April 20th.

Local Doctor to donate services- proceeds go to CADV
On Thursday, April 3, Dr. A.J. Bentley will have a special day to help Citizens Against
Domestic Violence. If you visit Dr. Bentley Chiropractic Center at 4421 Roosevelt Blvd.,
Suite B, Middletown, Ohio, Tuesday, March 31, through Thursday, April 3, new patients
will have a consultation, examination, nervous system scan, and two X-rays (if needed)
- a $192.00 value for a donation. All existing patients will get adjustments for only a

3rd Annual Groundhog Day
Breakfast Big Success!
CADV’s 3rd annual Groundhog Day Breakfast proved the most successful yet! We more
than doubled our fundraising efforts from last year raising $2,300! A steady stream
of over 450 hungry diners lined up for the breakfast buffet that featured sausage, eggs,
gravy, biscuits, and pancakes. The event was held at the Breiel First Church of God
Fellowship Hall Saturday February 2 from 7-11am. We received lots of compliments on
how good the food was and how well organized we were!

have been on television and
local papers recently. In
February Board member and
speaker Amy Jones and her
mother Sally Jones made an
appearance on the Montel
Williams show. Jones, who
has already appeared on
Oprah Winfrey, discussed the
circumstances surrounding
her former husband’s brutal
attempts to kill her.
Jim and Elsa Croucher
were interviewed on Trinity
Broadcasting Network for a
program titled “ Joy in Our
Town.” The topic was on
domestic violence and the
show aired three times locally
in February and March.
For National Teen Dating
Violence week CADV had a
guest column appear in the
Cincinnati Enquirer. Great
job to all in keeping up the
efforts to educate and make
the public aware of domestic
violence!
Making a Difference
CADV is helping to make a difference in the lives of victims. Last fall a woman
called CADV from the hospital where she stayed for several days because her husband
beat her so badly that she almost bled to death. While she was in ICU the husband and
his parents went in to the house and took everything. She had requested that we rent
her a car so she, her mother and her three children could go to Florida with her family.
We did rent the car for her and she is safely residing in Florida with her family. Recently
she returned to Butler County to finalize her protection order and her husband is
waiting to be sentenced. He will probably get 18 years. The mother and father will
probably get 2 to 3 years each.

Domestic Violence Legislation Update—
CADV testifies in support of
Ohio House Bill 247
On February 6th CADV’s Jim & Elsa Croucher and Bridget Mahoney traveled to
Columbus to testify before the House Juvenile & Family Law Committee on behalf
of House Bill 247. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Edna Brown of Cleveland, would allow
a court to issue a civil protection order to a teenager who has had or has a dating
relationship with the respondent who is alleged to have committed acts of stalking,
assault, menacing, or a sexually oriented offense. It would also include foster parents
under the scope of domestic violence laws.
Ohio is behind the times in protecting our teens. Current Ohio Domestic
Violence Laws do not cover teenagers. In 39 other states and the District of Columbia,
victims of dating violence can apply for protective orders against the perpetrator.
Members of the Ohio Judicial Conference were in attendance during CADV’s
testimony. Juvenile judges across Ohio have been against the bill in the past, concerned
with cross jurisdictional issues. CADV spoke with the judges after the hearing and
encouraged them to look into other states’ laws to see how they handled that issue.
The most recent news- the issues the juvenile court judges had with the bill have
been resolved! Members of the ad hoc OJC committee working with Rep Brown on
the bill have agreed to support the bill and write a letter noting their approval to the
members of the Ohio Judicial Conference which includes all the sitting judges in Ohio. A
spokesman for Rep. Brown says the Chairman of the Juvenile and Family Law committee
supports the bill. The next step, if the committee approves it, is to get it introduced to
the full house. Rep. Brown is hopeful of passage sometime this year!

Dear CADV Board Members.
My son, who is 10 years old, and I would like to thank you for covering our car
expenses. We are so grateful for all of your help. Thanks to CADV we had the
joy of staying in Dove House. Also, when we did get BMHA Housing, our entire
two bedroom house was furnished through the help of CADV’s connections
throughout Middletown. I have been blessed in many, many ways due to the
chance I was given for a new safe life by CADV. Please feel free to call upon me
for any volunteer work you might need someone for.
