From a modern country house with its sustainable planning to a glamorous Community Clubhouse, the projects selected reflect the individuality of their owners – and showcase the custom-made solutions of the architects. The projects have a common denominator: in each case, the kitchen is the „heart of the home“, planned and implemented individually with the comprehensive kitchen ranges by LEICHT. The kitchen is the „heart of the home“ and the focus of living according to architects when it comes to the question of the significance of the kitchen in buildings they have designed. But everyone has their own likes and preferences – and every kitchen is as individual and special as the owners of a house. The diversity is demonstrated on around 200 pages in the third edition of LEICHT‘s top-quality publication „Architecture + Kitchen“, published by the company specially for Eurocucina 2016. 1 Your contact for journalistic matters: Heike Bering, bering*kopal, Büro für Kommunikation Tel.: +49(0)711 7451 759-15 [email protected] Your contact in the UK: Fenella Taylor PR Tel.: 01389 830390 [email protected] PRESS RELEASE Detached houses and dwellings in the US, New Zealand, Germany, Austria, France, Brazil and Taiwan are all featured in the book. With all the differences in terms of climate, the size of land available and the stylistic preferences of the owners, there was a lot of common ground in planning: both in terms of the continuity of transitions from inside to out and the seamless integration of the kitchen in the living area. All the architects featured in the publication chose LEICHT kitchens for very similar reasons: the kitchens enable the harmonious adaptation of kitchen architecture to suit the needs of users and the design of building architecture in terms of shape, colour and material. The prestige and the quality of the LEICHT brand both at home and abroad are a reason why LEICHT kitchens are often the kitchens of choice. The company employs 520 people at its main site in Waldstetten and in the fiscal year 2015 made a turnover of around 110 million euros. LEICHT has developed from a Swabian manufacturer of quality goods into a brand coveted all over the world and currently exported to 50 countries. The company founded as a carpenter‘s workshop in 1928 by the brothers Alois and Josef Leicht is now leaving its mark on the modern kitchen architecture of the twenty-first century. In a survey carried out in 2015 by market research institute GfK, LEICHT was cited as the „best sold premium brand in Germany“. In June of the same year, LEICHT was the only manufacturer of kitchens to be awarded the accolade „the most innovative brand of the year“, the greatest distinction of the Plus X Award. A milestone in the company‘s history was the opening of the LEICHT | WELT in October 2014 in a kitchen exhibition area covering 1500 square metres with show kitchen and seminar rooms. Waldstetten, April 2016 Reprint free of charge / Courtesy copies requested 3 PRESS RELEASE Harmony of kitchen and living area Great diversity of material with the LEICHT kitchen Concrete. A newly designed kitchen island with an integrate dining table is now the centre of the living area Concrete has character. Familiar as a rough surface outdoors, it is a fascinating feature for interiors thanks to its unique, authentic appearance. LEICHT has already successfully implemented the material with its pleasant structure and vital-looking surface to advantage in Concrete and, in combination with glass and wood, has created elegant kitchen architecture. The company has now added a kitchen island with integrated table to the Concrete range. Kitchens from LEICHT unite hospitality and homeliness with sophisticated kitchen architecture. They are resolutely open to the living area in design and thus fulfil representative purposes. The range of colours and materials reflects this, as does the clear, geometric structure and the harmonious interplay of all functional elements. 4 Your contact for journalistic matters: Heike Bering, bering*kopal, Büro für Kommunikation Tel.: +49(0)711 7451 759-15 [email protected] Your contact in the UK: Fenella Taylor PR Tel.: 01389 830390 [email protected] PRESS RELEASE Even more homely and welcoming: the kitchen island with integrated dining table A recent development of the successful Concrete range is the kitchen island with integrated dining table: amidst a calm, horizontal surface, the table juts out of the kitchen unit marking the end of the kitchen area. The new ensemble offers a generous but at the same time compact space for cooking, dining and having fun together. The length and width of the table are planned individually and can be coordinated to suit the particular dimensions of the island. Complex interior and well-though-out storage spaces – an important component of a functional and at the same time representative kitchen When closed, the island is a clam, straightforward cuboid that quietly blends in with the homely environment. It is only when it is opened that the highly complex interior becomes apparent: the storage space solutions are well-thought-out down to the very last detail and the system features the newly developed L3 pullout system colour-coordinated with the rest. For LEICHT, premium unit interiors are just as important as an attractive exterior. Storage spaces are planned to ensure that keeping things tidy is fun and that kitchen utensils can quickly be cleared away once you have finished working. „The trend nowadays is very much toward the representative kitchen. That is why we place great emphasis on kitchens fulfilling this precise purpose and why we ensure that the kitchen, when tidy, is virtually impossible to distinguish from the living area,“ explains Stefan Waldenmaier, CEO and Chairman of the Board at LEICHT Küchen AG. Successful integration in the living area Virtually full integration into the living area is also achieved with the optically light, virtually floating wallmounted unit fronts and the careful selection of a range of materials which harmonise with the entire living environment: on the one hand, this is the authentic material language of Concrete, on the other the design of storage spaces, niches and unit fronts made of top-quality wood exuding warmth. Worktops and shelves made of satin-finished glass, optionally in a perfectly coordinated brown, create the impression of perfect harmony and quality; as do the elegant joints spaced five millimetres apart on both the horizontal and vertical planes. 5 PRESS RELEASE Light also plays a central role in LEICHT‘s holistic planning approach. Ulrike Kolb, Head of Marketing and Interior Design, paid particular attention to the illumination of areas in the wall unit area: „The carefully integrated indirect lighting of niches and shelving accentuates and showcases, but also makes a major contribution to the homely atmosphere,“ explains the qualified architect. An elegant and compact solution. (Photo: LEICHT) Island and sideboard lighten the strict kitchen architecture; dining table and wall-mounted floor units with a high-grade surface of brushed genuine walnut veneer create a homely, warm atmosphere. (Photo: LEICHT) 7 PRESS RELEASE Extremely tidy: the entire frame looks more delicate and lightweight thanks to the large proportion of glass. Glass is generously used virtually down to the floor and gives a clear view of what is contained inside. The interiors have been developed with great attention to detail and incite the user to keep things tidy – an absolute must in an open, prestigious kitchen. (Photo: LEICHT) An elegant and ergonomic solution: the wall units are easy to open upwards. It is no problem to continue working with an open door with the advantage of having everything at your fingertips as you prepare your culinary delights. (Photo: LEICHT) Tall unit flush to the wall and extending down to the floor – a miracle of storage space and the perfect organiser with integrated lighting. New: the velvety matt lacquer anti-fingerprint finish. Representative and open to the living area – the new LEICHT kitchen Bondi. The clear and symmetrical arrangement of the kitchen islands and the warm, elegant genuine wood fronts magic up a homely atmosphere. A particularly appealing feature is the new matt lacquer, uniquely velvety to the touch – a lacquer anti-fingerprint finish in carbon grey. The trend today is very much towards continuity in the kitchen with expanses of calm surfaces and authentic materials. „We have responded to this with, for example, surfaces that are sensuous and pleasant to the touch,“ says Stefan Waldenmaier, CEO and Chairman of the Board at LEICHT Küchen AG. In the case of Bondi, this is the ultra matt lacquer finish in carbon grey on the melamine coating. It is specially hardened and thus resistant to fingerprints. The perfect contrast: the elegant genuine wood front Topos. 10 Your contact for journalistic matters: Heike Bering, bering*kopal, Büro für Kommunikation Tel.: +49(0)711 7451 759-15 [email protected] Your contact in the UK: Fenella Taylor PR Tel.: 01389 830390 [email protected] PRESS RELEASE Clearly defined working area between the islands Bondi shows a clear, symmetrical structural division. The two islands, situated opposite one another, define the functional and working area of the kitchen, whilst still appearing calm and homogeneous to the living area. Both preparation and cooking primarily take place between the islands. The two functional areas of cooking and washing-up, as well as the extra wide pullouts under the work surface, are ultra convenient. Harmonious integration of the kitchen appliances In the middle of the tall units there are two wine fridges – a highlight for all wine lovers. The wine fridges are very much on show while the other kitchen appliances are concealed behind slide-away doors with vertical recessed handles: oven, washing machine and tumble dryer are elegantly integrated into the tall units. The LEICHT pantry provides additional easily accessible storage space with door shelving and swivelout elements. It is available in a number of widths. The calm, harmonious overall appearance remains even when the units are open. Everything has its own particular space in the pantry; a clear overview is ensured at all times. „After all, keeping things tidy is an absolute must in a representative and homely kitchen,“ says Waldenmaier. Waldstetten, April 2016 Reprint free of charge / Courtesy copies requested 11 PRESS RELEASE A clear, symmetrical structural division: two island blocks stand opposite each other in the centre of the room and provide an optical framework to the tall unit run. (Photo: LEICHT) The two function centres of cooking and washing-up are situated in the middle of the island blocks. They are integrated in a solid wooden element placed on the top of the worktop. Waldstetten, April 2016 Reprint free of charge / Courtesy copies requested 14 PRESS RELEASE Showcased and stowed away From clever storage space solutions to ingenious lighting concepts, LEICHT has a whole world of ideas on how to keep kitchens tidy and show them in just the right light. An open, representative kitchen needs pragmatic solutions. Because it is not easy to magic up a delicious menu and quickly transform the kitchen back into a homely environment again. With its multiple storage space solutions, LEICHT really has thought of everything: from illuminated niche shelving to individually planned organisation systems for units and drawers. Keeping things tidy and expertly showcasing the kitchen are given a new definition in LEICHT kitchens. The following pages show carefully developed planning details. Shelving – as a room divider or niche design element There is often unused space between the worktop and wall unit. This can now be made use of sensibly with elegant niche shelving that can also be accentuated with the appropriate lighting concept. Finally somewhere to show off all those decorative accessories in a kitchen. (Photo: LEICHT) 15 Your contact for journalistic matters: Heike Bering, bering*kopal, Büro für Kommunikation Tel.: +49(0)711 7451 759-15 [email protected] Your contact in the UK: Fenella Taylor PR Tel.: 01389 830390 [email protected] PRESS RELEASE Put in the spotlight: the basic shelving consists of extendible modules 1.6 centimetres thick. These can be divided into nine decorative compartments with aluminium dividers and can also be accentuated with light: the energy-efficient LED lighting develops virtually no heat and can be switched on and off, and even dimmed, using a touch sensor. (Photo: LEICHT) Is it a kitchen or a living room? Current trends do not clearly divide the kitchen from the living area. This shelf unit, incorporated in the wall, is extremely adaptable and adds a few homely touches. It can also be used as a free-standing room divider. Support panels, shelves and back walls can be ordered individually and are available in a number of colours. (Photo: LEICHT) 16 PRESS RELEASE Units – concealing functions behind closed doors With a tall unit from the Bondi range, appliances can be elegantly concealed behind the genuine Topos wood front. A special fitting means the slide-away doors take hardly any space at all. (Photo: LEICHT) Clearing away and keeping things tidy become pure pleasure: everything has its own particular space in this pantry, concealed behind the elegant genuine Topos wood front. The door shelving and swivel-out elements create a lot of additional storage space and ensure a clear overview of things at all times. (Photo: LEICHT) 17 PRESS RELEASE Pots, pans, cake tins and chopping boards – in this tall unit everything is tidied away and quick to hand at all times. The food processor can be up and running in a flash: it is on a pull-out base and is illuminated from above. (Photo: LEICHT) Drawers – everything at a glance The easy-to-open drawers feature extensive areas of glass. This gives a clear view of what is contained inside from the side and gives the entire interior frame system L3 a lightweight and delicate look. Thanks to the double-walled frame, the pullouts are ultra strong and do not drop even when full. (Photo: LEICHT) 18 PRESS RELEASE You can design the interiors of drawers simply, individually and variably with the L-Box interior fitting system. The base features an antislip surface in the form of an easy-care carbon grey mat. Naturally lacquered oak dividers and boxes of different sizes are positioned on the mat to suit individual requirements. Everything is to hand on the surface. (Photo: LEICHT) Just opening a drawer becomes an enjoyable experience: there is a varied interplay of wood and the neutral grey of the base. The organisation system L-Box exudes emotional warmth and shows a love of detail. (Photo: LEICHT) 19 PRESS RELEASE Light – for cosiness and inspiration Wall units provide indispensable storage space. But depending on the way the light falls, they can make the worktop seem dark and thus make preparation difficult. This is why LEICHT offers tailor-made lighting solutions. Once your work has been completed, the light remains switched on: the indirect lighting creates a pleasantly homely atmosphere. (Photo: LEICHT) Light not only inspires poets and painters, but also many a cook. To authentically showcase foodstuffs, LEICHT implements specially developed LED lights with 4100 K (Kelvin) luminous colour and a colour rendering index of approx. 95. (Photo: LEICHT) 20 PRESS RELEASE Downlights integrated in the shelves accentuate the space below and its various accessories. Everything is shown to particular advantage. At the same time, the illuminated shelving creates a cosy atmosphere. (Photo: LEICHT) 21 PRESS RELEASE About LEICHT Küchen AG LEICHT is one of the top 10 companies of the German kitchen industry. And that is why architect João Armentano incorporated not one but two kitchens by LEICHT. This dwelling with its two building complexes is situated on a wooded plot of land in São Paulo. It is both sophisticated and representative, and features integrated spa areas, a home cinema and a gourmet kitchen. The dishes prepared in the two kitchens by LEICHT are truly first class. The inhabitants enjoy the calm surroundings, with numerous old trees, on three floors, but particularly when they are outside in the spacious free areas and at the pool. The striking, protruding flat roof provides shade and protects the residents from the rain. This is a major advantage in an area with constant temperatures that has just as much rain as it does sun. Eating together in elegant surroundings is very much a focus of daily life. This was something the architect could fully appreciate and thus implement in his planning, as he too is of the opinion that the kitchen is the centre of the house. The building is in fact home to two kitchens by LEICHT: 23 Your contact for journalistic matters: Heike Bering, bering*kopal, Büro für Kommunikation Tel.: +49(0)711 7451 759-15 [email protected] Your contact in the UK: Fenella Taylor PR Tel.: 01389 830390 [email protected] PRESS RELEASE a main kitchen with a striking central island which at its ends can be used as a bar, as well as a gourmet kitchen with a „hot table“ (teppanyaki). Gourmet kitchen and main kitchen by LEICHT The main kitchen, also referred to as the „functional kitchen“ by the owners, is primarily used for everyday cooking. It was the express wish of the owners that only the very best materials be used here and that a unique, spacious room be created. The Orlando range is used in the main kitchen; the fronts of the tall units, functional run and cooking island are made of expressive peat oak. In contrast to the main kitchen, used most of the time by the owners, the gourmet kitchen was designed for cooking and spending time with friends: although basically designed as very functional and thus ideal for cooking together, it was the owners‘ express desire to make it „exquisite and ingenious“. Here they opted for the IOS range with fronts made of elegant, matt glass. High-grade materials in all areas There is a skilful use of precious woods, glass and stone in all areas of the residence. It is not just characteristic for the two kitchens and the „Social Hall“, the name João Armentano uses to denote hall and staircase. The spacious dining room is not far from the main kitchen on the ground floor. As is the case with the rest of the building, this room is characterised by a cool elegance and bears all the marks of the architect. The kitchen by LEICHT is the focus and enjoys a seamless transition into the lounge. The Community Clubhouse, located in a residential building in Tainan, offers its residents spacious rooms for relaxation and joint activities on three floors; spa areas are just as important as yoga rooms and a shared kitchen by LEICHT. Embedded in a complex ecosystem, the Clubhouse is operated energy-efficiently and is surrounded by a water landscape and lush trees. The architect‘s main concern was to create a building in which nature and inhabited space merge. The amoebic shape as well as the façade with its significant projections make it virtually impossible for the onlooker to take in the whole building on first sight. But this fluid type of construction makes you want to see the inside: it is meant to make inhabitants want to leave their own apartments to get in touch with their neighbours. It was correspondingly important for the architect to create plenty of space for regeneration with expansive areas of water and lots of green. The second level is home to spa areas and a pool. 28 Your contact for journalistic matters: Heike Bering, bering*kopal, Büro für Kommunikation Tel.: +49(0)711 7451 759-15 [email protected] Your contact in the UK: Fenella Taylor PR Tel.: 01389 830390 [email protected] PRESS RELEASE Enjoying in an elegant atmosphere Visitors access the Community Clubhouse either via a wide staircase or, barrier-free, via a gently sloped ramp. The architect planned the ground floor as a „social and recreation hall“ in which residents meet to take part in a number of wide-ranging activities, including communal cooking and eating. Dark shades, the resolute interchanging of natural stone and wood, as well as carefully positioned, sculptural furniture dominate the entire interior. Harmony of kitchen and lounge The kitchen from LEICHT‘s Pinta range is completely coordinated with the lounge and merges with it to become one, helped by the handleless fronts and the unit installed flush in a niche with an elegantly integrated workarea. A worktop juts out of the spacious food preparation island, lightening the effect of the island block, and can be used by several people as a bar. Visitors enjoy the elegant atmosphere dominating not only the kitchen and dining area but in fact the entire building. As people in Asia are highly enthusiastic when it comes to technology, it is no surprise that the appliances are placed directly opposite the dining table. „Senses of flow“ – inspired by Le Corbusier The architect was inspired by the work of Le Corbusier and thus created, among other things, a flowing, intermingling room arrangement. He talks of „senses of flow“ in this context. The numerous comfortable seating possibilities are inviting and communicative: this is where several people come together or where more discreet meetings take place. The water landscape outside is refreshing and is part of the ingenious climate concept the building is based on. Stefan Waldenmaier: The „Architecture + Kitchen“ book will certainly be a major topic. We will be exhibiting kitchens from the book live and also have two architects there who will demonstrate the diversity and international nature of the LEICHT brand. Milan and Eurocucina are therefore more important for LEICHT than they ever have been: our stand, at 500 square metres, is going to be much bigger than our appearances at the fair in the last few years and that means we can offer our numerous international dealers and their customers, as well as cooperating architects and building owners, an even greater platform than we have done to date. Our brand presence will clearly indicate the significance of the fair as an international highlight and meeting point of the furniture scene. LEICHT had a very satisfying turnover development last year: what specifically will LEICHT be undertaking to fire this development even further? 34 PRESS RELEASE Stefan Waldenmaier: Product, service, brand – these are important success parameters for LEICHT that we stick by. In concrete terms that means that as far as our product range is concerned, we will keep a balance between premium kitchens and ranges for a price-sensitive target group; in both cases keeping maximum variant diversity and individual planning freedom. It is clear that the LEICHT brand is more in demand thanks to our activities on the Internet and in social media as well as classic print campaigns – particularly by customers who are prepared to allocate a greater part of their budget to an individually planned kitchen. We are convinced that this concept will lead to further growth in the future. When we think about growth, we naturally pay great attention to production: to be able to meet all future requirements in this sector, we have planned investments in hall extensions with corresponding investments in production and warehousing facilities. LEICHT is extremely successful when it comes to exports. What are you expecting this year? Stefan Waldenmaier: If you look at the individual markets closely, it is clear that the most important market for LEICHT is in fact the German market. Particularly in Germany we have been able to gain good growth rates over the last few years. But we are a company with an international orientation and will naturally continue to extend our presence on foreign markets. What that means is that we are now active in more than 50 countries worldwide and have our own sales reps in the important growth regions. The international sales team will continue to be increased successively to keep pace with the growth dynamism on the markets. So we are once again looking forward to positive developments in export in 2016! What are you doing to increase brand awareness on the world stage? Stefan Waldenmaier: It is of course crucial to make LEICHT a desirable brand globally and provide both dealers and end users with a range of new ideas of just what you can do with a LEICHT kitchen. One of our most recent projects is the international competition „Global Kitchen Design“ that has already led to more than 150 entries online of kitchens that have been planned or in fact implemented all over the world. The idea is that visitors can store their preferred kitchen in the ideas book and then go to a dealer with this planning suggestion. This project brings together dealers and end users all over the world. 35 PRESS RELEASE Furthermore, we have recently been honoured by the world‘s leading Internet platform „Houzz“: with „Best of Houzz 2016“ in the category service and „Best of Houzz 2016“ in the category design. Houzz is an Internet forum that gives end users ideas on furnishing and has a community of 35 million. A lot more is going to be taken care of online in the future. We can see this and are making use of this amazing potential!
