Take part in Warszawa jest trendy and see for yourself that in the City
of Warsaw there is a lot more going on than you think! Spend free time with
your family and friends in the most crazy way or rest and re-energise before
the week to come.
Do you feel like breaking the Guinness World RecordTM, playing Monopoly
on the largest board? How about a silent film screening in a garden, with
live music, or a meeting with the Moomins? Maybe you would prefer to feel
no gravity, while passing a Tibetan Bridge? Or maybe sing songs on a tram?
Sky-high dinner? From September 4th to September 6th, over the course of
50 hours, you will get a chance to not only visit the underground level of
the Palace of Culture and Science, but also have breakfast by the Vistula,
dance at an intergenerational disco party and participate in a guided stroll,
as well as listen to Chopin’s music in Krakowskie Przedmieście.

On the main stage at Defilad Square, stars of Polish and
international music scene will perform.

+ Jessie Ware
British vocalist and songwriter. Her creative output blends soul,
R&B, dubstep and downtempo. She rose to fame in 2012, having
released her début album, titled Devotion, with hits such as
“Running”, “110%” and “Wildest Moments”. Her vocals have been
compared to such singers as Sade, Chaka Khan and Aaliyah.
Following the success of the first album, the second one came out
in 2014. The LP, titled Tough Love, brought such singles as “Say
You Love Me”, written in collaboration with Ed Sheeran, which
captivated fans and topped music charts the world over.

+ LemOn
LemOn became a true revelation of the Polish music market.
Over a mere three years of their artistic activity, they have
authored seven great hits, been awarded with two Platinum
Records and multiple prizes, and – most importantly – built
a serious, devoted fan base. LemOn’s début album turned
Platinum, was awarded with a Top statuette at Sopot Top Trendy
Festival 2014, and with an Eska Music Award 2013, along with
being a Fryderyk 2013 nominee. Two years after the premiere
of their début, LemOn released another album, titled Scarlett
(which is also the title of one of the songs it includes). The LP
quickly turned Golden, and then Platinum.

LemOn are six musicians, of various ethnic roots. The leader,
Igor Herbut, is a charismatic vocalist, brought up in line with
traditions of his Lemko family. The man responsible for the
group’s characteristic, Slavic violin sounds, is Andrzej Olejnik.
Extraordinary tones of keyboard instruments are created by
a pianist stemming from the Subcarpathian region, Piotr Walicki.
Piotr Kołacz (bass guitar) is the one behind the unceasing, flowing
groove. In March 2014, the band were joined by two outstanding
instrumentalists, namely Piotrek Rubik aka Rubens (guitar) and
Tomasz Waldowski aka Harry (percussion).

Dawid Podsiadło’s solo album still remains one of the most
popular records in Poland, with over 150 thousand copies sold...
Meanwhile, the début album by Curly Heads – Dawid’s original
band – has turned Golden and, following nominations for
Fryderyk awards, continues to receive new and new excellent
reviews.
Curly Heads are five talents, five young and gifted guys, who
romance with sounds in a very natural way.

At the end of 2014, the group’s début album, titled Ruby Dress
Skinny Dog, was released. The LP is filled with rock sounds,
freedom and Podsiadło’s rough vocals. In terms of genres, the
release escapes clear-cut labels, but the main aspect thereof
– and the element that unifies the whole – is energy, the most
striking example of which is the first single; this piece must not
– and cannot – be listened to silently!

+ Afromental
Afromental are seven very talented musicians, each of them full
of energy. Music they create is a resultant of inspirations of all of
the group members. In terms of styles, it is a mix of mainly rock,
hip-hop and rapcore. Over the course of ten years of their artistic
activity, the band have released four full-length studio albums:
The Breakthru (2007), Playing with pop (2009), The B.O.M.B. (2011)
and Mental House (2014).
The album quickly turned Golden and during the band’s concert
tour, it became a real hit of festival stages, which got filled with
a new dose of energy and rock’n’roll!
Afromental have performed on the most important stages and
within the most important festivals in Poland. They have been
awarded numerous times, e.g. with an MTV European Music
Award, VIVA Comet, Eska Music Award and Superjedynka.
The group will present material promoting their most recent
release, Mental House, which emphasizes their independent character and unique music style. Most probably, we will be given a
chance to experience the characteristic groove and flow they have
been known for for years – sounds at the intersection of hip-hop
and soul, combined with heavy guitar lines.

Chopin in Krakowskie Przedmieście will take place for the sixth
time already. Just like every year, the event will be dedicated to
Fryderyk Chopin’s creative oeuvre, as well as music inspired by his
conc e rts
output. On September 5th, on a small stage by the King Zygmunt
III Waza Column, and on a large one – at Skwer Hoovera Sq.,
there will be concerts organized, presenting mostly jazz renderings,
along with quasi-classical takes on the music, as well as a interpretations from the field of broadly defined World Music. Among
the performing artists, there will be young but artistically mature
pianists, who will play classical pieces by the composer, as well
as top representatives of the Polish jazz scene and World Music,
who have been recognised in Poland and abroad for years. Each of
them explores Chopin’s music in diversified ways, which gives the
listener a chance to assess their alternative approaches to a given
piece of music.

Chopin in Motion
Before the concert, we invite you for a dance performance,
which will take the audience on a journey guided by Fryderyk
Chopin’s music.
Images, actions and sounds will intertwine, creating an oneiric
and abstract series of images. The viewer will be given a chance
to see “music through motion”, as well as experience “motion
via music” or in the context thereof. Taking turns, dancers
oppose individual phrases or surrender to them, expanding
in a creative way directions in which music leads. Performers
create compositions in real time, their reference point being
“choreographic tasks” set beforehand. The spectacle was inspired
by a question: “In what way a classical rendering of Chopin’s music
may enter into a dialogue with contemporary motion
composition?”

Currently one of the most popular Polish rappers, especially in
Silesia. His lyrics oftentimes refer to being Polish; he is not afraid
to collaborate with musicians active in fields very distant from rap,
such as Jan Skrzek aka Kyks.

Many believe that VNM is one of the best rappers in the country.
He only rose to fame in 2005, when – together with his Crew 834
– he won a competition for the best demo, organized by Wudoo,
a Szczecin-based radio programme. One year later, Niuskul Mixtape
2009 was released. 2010 was the year when VNM’s career took
a major turn. In July, he signed his first contract with a record
label. His 10th – and the first official – release hit the shelves
in 2011.
VNM is the first – and for the time being only – rapper in the
history of our country, who landed a spot on the cover of
a hip-hop magazine, Magazyn Hip Hop (#52, December 2007),
having no official release in his discography.

Tede is Jacek Garniecki, one of the most famous Polish rappers,
and at the same time one of the most controversial representatives
of the genre. His fame doesn’t stem from musical projects
exclusively, but is also a result of his impressive business skills,
as well as an ably shaped image.
Tede has been awarded with numerous prizes, among which
we should mention Ślizgery and Belvedere Achievement Award.
He has been nominated for Fryderyk award multiple times, and
his performance at Opole 2009 Polish Television Music Festival
brought him nominations in two categories: Artist of the Year
and Album of the Year, for his LP titled Ścieżka Dźwiękowa.

especially when it comes to ballroom dancing. Shim Sham swing
dances school invites you to participate in intense weekend workshops dedicated to the oldest swing dances, namely Charleston,
Jitterbug and Lindy hop.
The class will be 5 hours long altogether, over the course of two
days. The workshops will be addressed mainly to people who have
never learned any of the aforementioned dances, or wish to refresh

Legia’s Football Kindergartens is an all-year-round series of
football classes for children ages 3 – 7. This new initiative by Legia
Warszawa is a part of a national project, Legia Soccer Schools, the
goal of which is to educate the youngest girls and boys in terms of
shaping lasting health-oriented habits, through encouraging an
active lifestyle with top-level sports activities.

at classical writings of the era of Romanticism. Lilla Weneda is a

and Lechiti. Michał Zadara transplanted this drama into the
realities of the history of the 20th century, using Słowacki’s drama

depression! Surprising confessions, plot twists and extraordinary
stories of a comedian and his therapist, create a humorous, warm
and intriguing picture of our everyday life, with its problems
and – first of all – joys. Two artists, two men: professional
comedian and psychotherapist dealing with depression. Could
two professions differ more? Comedian Gustaw (Rafał Rutkowski)
earns a living by making people laugh, consoling them and giving
them hope that the world is not as bad as it may sometimes seem.
He restores people’s joy of life. He is highly successful, in demand
and famous, because depression is a problem more and more
people are faced with. His work is invaluable. He has a family.

In the fairy-tale, the elements meet the titular Raindrop, who
decides to part ways with rain, in order to get to know the world
and enjoy its beauty. Unfortunately, one day it wakes up in a world
that is dying. Little Raindroplet (Mała Deszczynka), who tries to
save the world and her friends from a draught, becomes a grownup, courageous heroine. Her extraordinary lot turns into a story
with a beautiful ending, proving that life is not revolving around
just us exclusively... one should help others – it is worth to help
others. Marta Guśniowska’s play is a poetic tale which reminds us
about the most important thing in life, namely love for the world.
The spectacle, directed by Jacek Malinowski, builds a world on the
stage, in which – thanks to hope and a teeny bit of magic – true
miracles happen. The author of the stage design, with a contemporary feel to it, is Giedre Brazyte. Music was written by Antanas
Jasenka. The play combines live plan with dolls and masks, as well
as computer animations.

Kamion, for over 200 years known as Kamionek, is the oldest
town in the Warsaw area. It was here that the first passage across
the Vistula River was located, it was here where a king was elected

Praga. There is almost nothing left from those times, but there
are nonetheless still many interesting objects present where we
will be taking our tour, on grounds belonging once to those two
towns, such as Wedel plant, several inoperative factories, Our
Lady of Victory Co-cathedral, an interesting Pallotines Church
in Skaryszewska St. and as many as four theatres.

Stadium and train station, remodelled for the Euro 2012

Then, a space where the first Polish film studio used to be, and
where a work of art titled Warsaw’s Dregs (Męty Warszawy, 1906)
was created, and artists were paid for their work with geese. Not
far from there, a climatic café, with old newspaper pages serving
as wallpapers; then, near Wedel in a toll-gate building in
Grochowska – a chocolate lounge and a little store for all those

The stroll along Skarpa Warszawska will come in two options,

First part – to the south – leads from the metro exit, near Nowy
Świat St., via Okólnik St. and the nest of the Golden Duck in
the basements of the Ostrogski Castle. Then, along the scarp, via
Foksal St. – with stories about hot air balloon flights and circus
shows at Staniewski Brothers’. Next – having passed the Polish
Army Museum – we will visit Podkomorzy Prince’s magical
labyrinth (hidden in the scarp), take a look at YMCA and
memories of Tyrmand. Finally, via gardens of the Sejm and
to Ujazdowski Castle, where we will take a breath in hammocks,
by Różycki Market stalls.

”Urbanrhythm” project

The exhibition combines two spheres of interacting with art
– related with one’s eyesight and hearing. The photographs
present 20 young musicians-instrumentalists, captured in
Warsaw’s well-known spots, such as the Royal Łazienki Park,
Central Railway Station and Teatralny Sq. The series includes
almost all instruments used by a symphony orchestra, including
those less typical, like the bassoon, oboe or French horn. Authors
of the project invited students of the Fryderyk Chopin University
of Music to collaborate. The goal of the series titled Urbanrhythm
is to present young artists to a broader audience – and show them
against the background of Warsaw’s urban space, atypical for
them.
The second aspect of the planned exhibition will be a chance
it will give visitors, to listen to compositions performed by the
portrayed musicians at places where given photos were taken.
This will enable them to enliven a frozen frame, by turning on
music dedicated to their ears exclusively. Having listened to
a rendering, visitors will be also able to get acquainted with
a short bio of the artist who performed it.

On Friday, we invite guests to the opening of a mural painting
created by Front Sztuki artists on two storeys of the building, as

offering a chance to visit studios where Front Sztuki artists work.

Galeria Jabłkowskich is an open-air photo gallery active for

Reflections is an exhibition showcasing portraits of people

possibly most honest way. Just like the space where the paintings
are presented (which is a little wooden house in Jazdów, Warsaw),
the portrayed people are interesting in their imperfection.
The author of the works is Helena Wawrzyniuk, who graduated
from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and the Polytechnic
University of Milan. Her numerous installations may be found
within Warsaw’s public space.

We invite you for an improvised theatre performance, titled
It Will Come out in the Wash (Wyjdzie w praniu), created by
a group of friends. Improvisation is a magical world, overflowing
with emotions which we often avoid in our everyday lives. Everything that happens on stage stems from an inspiration provided
by spectators at the very beginning of a spectacle. This inspiration
develops into a series of associations, crazy comparisons and
motives. What will result from this melting pot filled with ideas?
All shall “come out in the wash”.
Light refreshments in the form of a cup of coffee or tea,
and a delicate dessert, served 50 metres above the ground.
