CONCERTS
JULY
Jazz Piano x 5
Thursday, July 9 at 7:00 PM
Ranny Reeve, a veteran musician and beloved
teacher, will present five of the finest jazz piano
players in the county as they display the wide
variety of styles to be discovered in jazz. All of
the pianists are former students of Mr. Reeve
and have gone on to play with many groups and
in various venues throughout the U.S. and
Europe.
Photography by Howard L. Stevens
Mr. Stevens, a professor of Radio,
Television and Film Programming,
retired from Suffolk Community College in 2001. He now travels
near and far capturing images, with a special eye for composition
and color. Not locked into any theme or form, his photography
brings new vision to ordinary subjects for the viewer. Mr. Stevens’
work has been exhibited widely on Long Island. He lives in Rocky
Point and is co-president of the Paumanok Camera Club.
In the Glass Case: Ceramics by Pat Swyler
Pat Swyler has been interested in the human figure
all of her life. Clay, her preferred medium, presents
the best possibility to create the form to be transformed into a firm and permanent shape by firing.
Many of her female forms represent nature goddesses holding floral offerings. Ms. Swyler has taught art
for many years. Her work has been displayed widely
on Long Island as well as in other states. She currently maintains a private studio in Sound Beach.
July: The Friends of the Library will sponsor a reception for Howard L.
Stevens and Pat Swyler on Saturday, July 11 from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM.
August: Everyone is invited to meet with Peter Blasl and Richard
Webber at a reception sponsored by the Friends of the Library on
Saturday, August 8, from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM.
AUGUST
Photography by Peter Blasl
Peter Blasl has been an award-winning
photographer, working since 2005 for
the North Shore Sun. His pictures of
nature have been admired by local
residents for years. Newsday, Suffolk
Times and the News Review have also published Mr. Blasl’s photographs. A lifelong resident of the East End, Mr. Blasl concentrates
on scenic landscapes of Long Island as well as native animals and
flowers. He has won numerous awards, including the NYPA Better
Newspaper Contest Award for spot news photo, sports action, feature and art photos.
In the Glass Case: Carvings by Richard Webber
Mr. Webber, an avid outdoorsman spent many hours observing wild
life in their natural habitat. His carvings reflect his love for animals.
Some of his pieces were carved 45 years ago. Currently he specializes in smaller carvings to accommodate limited space.
