October, 2014 - North Carolina Association of Educational Office
NCAEOP Fellow Builders:
Fall is one of my favorite of the four seasons. It’s the
time where our weather gets mild and our surroundings
transforms into beautiful, vibrant colors as the leaves
change. What excites me most is that it is the beginning
of our district meetings. Our state district presidents are
committed to helping each of you build yourself
professionally, by having incredible workshops and
presenters at their fall meetings. NCAEOP state officer
have been assigned to attend designated meetings and
we are looking forward to Building Blocks to
Professionalism with you. Remember: our state officers
are here to assist and serve!

This summer I had the privilege to attend the NAEOP
conference in Portland, OR, along with two others from
North Carolina. I was honored to carry the North Carolina
flag during the flag ceremony, which was written and
directed by our very own, Charlie Mae Mace. What a
beautiful and moving experience to see all the state flags,
it is a sight to behold. If you have never attended an
NAEOP conference, plan now to attend the 2015
conference next July, which will be held in Buffalo, NY.

Welcome back EOPs
I hope everyone had a wonderful summer vacation filled with happy and special moments.
With the start of another school year, it also announces the beginning of fall district
meetings. I am looking forward to attending several meeting across the state. Seeing the
unique ways members are using President Manzano’s theme “Building Blocks to
Professionalism.” These fall meetings give me an opportunity to meet each of you. It also
allows me to rekindle old friendships, but most of all starting new life-long friendships.
I would like to thank all of our district Vice Presidents for all of their help to increase
membership state wide. Summer time is a slow time, but as the year moves on I know that
the numbers will increase. As of August 4, 2014 we have 372 Active members, 38 Associate
members, and 176 Retired members. This gives us 586 members.
If you have any ideas or suggestions on ways to increase membership, please do not hesitate
to share them with me.
In accord with Philemon 1:25 “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.”
Have a jubilant new school year.
I think this is definitely the busiest time of the school year as we get back into the swing of a
new school year, local meetings, planning district meetings, sponsored PSP workshops, and
fundraising projects. Even with all of this going on I encourage you to recruit new members
and encourage you to consider a leadership position in NCAEOP.

You are all special and I know you will enjoy your upcoming District Meetings.
My love to you all!
Membership Recruiting Incentives for 2014-2015
• In past it has been customary for the NCAEOP Vice President to come up with recruiting
incentives to increase our membership. This year Bianca Bedford, VP and Membership Chair
is offering a $50.00 Wal-Mart gift card to a new member. (An individual who has never been
a member of NCAEOP). The winner’s name will be drawn during the November Board of
Directors' meeting. This opportunity is open for those new members who have sent in their
membership form post marked by October 31, 2014. I encourage you to tell your co-workers
about NCAEOP.
• The Educational Office Professional who recruits the most new members overall in
addition to receiving a certificate and paid NCAEOP membership at conference, our VP
Bianca Bedford will sweeten the incentive by personally offering the winner of this award a
$20.00 gift card.
• NCAEOP recognizes an Educational Office Professional who has recruited the most
non-renewing members at conference. In addition to receiving a certificate and paid
NCAEOP membership at conference, our VP Bianca Bedford will sweeten the incentive by
personally offering the winner of this award a $20.00 gift card.
• We recognize an Educational Office Professional for their hard work in recruiting members.
We will also recognize the District that has the largest membership percentage increase
overall with a certificate. In addition to a certificate, our VP, Bianca Bedford will personally
donate a $25.00 gift card to the winning district to be used at the discretion of that district.

It’s coming up that time of year when the Annual District Meetings are held
and these are wonderful photo opportunities for the State President’s
scrapbook. I handed out two scrapbook pages to each District President at
the June Board meeting and ask that these be returned to me at the
November meeting of the Board. Those who do not bring them to the
meeting will need to mail their pages to me before the holidays.
If your District or local unit has held any events, please be sure to mail
(4312 Ward Drive, Morehead City, NC 28557) or email

Joyce B Smith, Historian
Check with your District President on how to obtain this years President Pin
($4) and Tote Bag ($10).
North Carolina lawmakers included in their 2014 budget a $1,000 raise for
most state employees, but non-teaching public school workers, teacher
assistants, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, custodians and other
non-certified and central office staff will only see a $500 salary increase.
Teacher pay raises will range from less than 1 percent to more than 18
percent, depending on how long a teacher has been in the classroom.
Continue to write our legislators, voice our concerns.
