MISSING CHILDREN
by Hillary Sessions
How many parents believe
that having a missing child will
not happen to them? I did for
twenty years. It only happens
to little children. The child
returns in a few hours. I
always watch my child. It can’t
happen to me.
Pretty consistently for each of
the last 18 years, the number of
missing children in the US has
stood at 750,000. If you add
the runaways, double that
number to 1.5 million children
between ages 1 hour and 18
years. That is a staggering
number. In Florida alone, we
were averaging 48-49,000 each
year until 2005 when we
topped 51,000! Fill up
Raymond James Stadium ?’s
full and that is the number of
children EACH YEAR in
Florida who are missing.
Please don’t think that it can’t
happen to you. Predators are
not discriminatory. If they
want your child, they will get
your child.
What can you do in your own
family? Be aware who lives in
your neighborhood. Check the
Florida Department of Law
Enforcement site
(www.fdle.state.fl.us) for sexual
predators who live in your zip
code. Make sure you check at
least monthly because they do
move.
Children are taken from three
places more than any other:
(1) walking to or from the
school bus stop (if they walk to
school, it is on their route
to/from school), (2) public
restroom, and (3) public park.
Do you have a family code
word? Have you empowered
your child on how to dial 911
on a phone, to call home with
the area code, and to call home
collect through the operator?
Do you know how to accept a
collect call from your missing
child? Ask for “time and
charges” from the operator,
otherwise the phone number
for your child will come in 6-8
weeks on your phone bill and
you want that information
NOW. Does your child know
your full name and full address
including zip code?
Have you collected a DNA
and blood sample on your
child? Do you have a classifiable set of fingerprints? Do
you have lots of colored photographs, both facial and full
body? Do you know what
your child wore to school
today?
Empower yourself when it
comes to child safety. Enroll
your child in the new
r.a.d.KID program to teach
them to “resist aggression
defensively”. This is not a selfdefense class; but teaches children how to resist an aggressor. Visit www.fnd-missingchildren.org for more safety
tips. Start a “block parent”
program in your neighborhood.

Who is most important for our
future? Our children. If we
do not diligently work to protect them, the predators may
win. Any child could be the
next Einstein, President of the
United States, fireman or
policeman.

2 THE CRUSADER
Do you have a child on the
Internet? If you haven’t been
to www.netsmartz.org; you
need to visit the site. It is sponsored by the National Center
for Missing and Exploited
Children and is excellent for
parents, kids, educators, law
enforcement, and teens. Kids
are lured on the Internet every
day and unfortunately only less
than 1% of the predators are
caught. Parents need to be
Internet savvy and learn the
language the kids speak on the
Internet. Do you know what
“POS” means? “Parent over
shoulder”. That warns the person on the other end of the
conversation to be careful what
they say.

THE POSTAL SERVICE NO ONE HEARS ABOUT
Our 14 year old dog, Abbey,
died last month. The day
after she died, my 4 year old
daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how
much she missed Abbey.
She asked if we could write
a letter to God so that when
Abbey got to heaven, God
would recognize her.
For a few days, she would ask
if God had gotten the letter
yet. I told her that I thought
He had.
She dictated and I wrote:
Meredith took it in and
opened it. Inside was a book
by Mr. Rogers, “When a Pet
Dies”. Taped to the inside
front cover was the letter we
had written to God, in its
opened envelope (which was
marked Return to Sender:
Insufficient address). On the
opposite page, one of the pictures of Abbey was taped
under the words “For
Meredith”. We turned to the
back cover, and there was the
other picture of Abbey, and
this handwritten not on pink
paper:
Dear God,
Will you please take special
care of our dog, Abbey? She
died yesterday and is in heaven.
We miss her very much. We are
happy that you let us have her
as our dog even though she got
sick. I hope that you will play
with her. She liked to play with
balls and swim before she got
sick.
I am sending some pictures of
her so that when you see her in
heaven you will know she is
our special dog. But I really do
miss her.
Yesterday there was a package
wrapped in gold paper on our
front porch. Curious, I went
to look at it. It had a gold star
card on the front and said “To
Meredith” in an unfamiliar
hand.
Dear Meredith,
I know that you will be happy
to know that Abbey arrived
safely and soundly in Heaven!
Having the pictures you sent to
me was such a big help. I recognized Abbey right away.
You know, Meredith, she isn’t
sick anymore. Her spirit is here
with me – just like she stays in
yourheart – young and running
and playing. Abbey loved
being your dog, you know.
Since we don’t need our bodies
in heaven, I don’t have any
pockets! – so I can’t keep your
beautiful letter. I am sending it
to you with the pictures so you
will have this book to keep and
remember Abbey. One of my
angels is taking care of this for
me. I hope the little book helps.
Thank you for the beautiful letter. Thank your mother for
sending it. What a wonderful
mother you have! I picked her
especially for you. I send my
blessings every day and remember that I love you very much.
By the way, I am in heaven but
wherever there is love, I am
there also.
Love,
God and the special angel who
wrote this after God told her
the words.
As a parent and a pet lover,
this is one of the kindest things
that I’ve ever experienced. I
have no way to know who sent
it, but there is some very kind
soul working in the dead letter
office.

P.S. Mommy wrote the words
after I told them to her.
We put that in an envelope
with two pictures of Abbey,
and addressed it to God in
Heaven. We put our return
address on it. Then Meredith
stuck some stamps on the front
because, as she said, it may
take lots of stamps to get a letter all the way to heaven, and
that afternoon I let her drop it
into the letter box at the post
office.

WANTED FOR FAILURE TO APPEAR AND
LEWD OR LASCIVIOUS MOLESTATION
They sat on the feeder and
squawked and screamed at all
hours of the day and night and
demanded that I fill it when it
got low on food.
I bought a bird feeder. I hung
it on my back porch and filled
it with seed. Within a week,
we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily
accessible food.
But then the birds started
building nests in the boards of
the patio, above the table, and
next to the barbecue. Then
came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the
chairs, the table... everywhere.
Then some of the birds turned
mean. They would dive bomb
me and try to peck me even
though I had fed them out of
my own pocket. Other birds
were boisterous and loud.

After a while, I couldn’t even
sit on my own back porch anymore. I took down the bird

birds were gone. I cleaned up
their mess and took down the
many nests they had built all
over the patio. Soon, the back
yard was like it used to be,
quiet and serene, with no one

Now let’s see. Our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical
care, and free education.
Illegal immigrants came to this
country by the tens of thousands and took advantage of
these services. Our taxes went
up to pay for these “free” services. Small apartments are

I believe that you have missed
the point, or perhaps you are
not paying attention to what is
happening in this country.
I believe that a drivers license
allows us to move throughout
the country and serves as our
ID within the United States. If
we decide to leave the country,
we still need a passport, which
then makes it easier for the
government to track their citizens and where they go in the
world. Sure, emergency workers will treat you at the scene
of an accident, but if you don’t
have insurance, you will be
billed personally for that $5000
ambulance ride, and you might
even have to sign a waiver
before they will take you to
the hospital, just to make sure
you are legally binded to pay
We are not talking about the
current infrastructure that is in
place, such as utilities, the
overabundance of restaurants,
or emergency workers. What
2/3rds of the citizenry are concerned about are the people
how are ‘under-employed’, ie.
Working part time instead of
full time and at lower wages.
Or the people who have come
off unemployment benefits
who still don’t have a job, but
are no longer counted in the

residents, but Tampa still has a
high crime rate, high drug
abuse rate and the streets are
loaded with drug dealers and

people are holding entire communities hostage, until the
people take matters into their

with their guns and bulletproof

We have complete religious
freedoms as long as we are not
Muslim, we have political freedoms as long as we tow the
line with the right wing agenda. That is why 67 percent of
us folks are unhappy.
The main reason why 67 percent of us are unhappy is that
this president HAS taken us
into an unnecessary war, has
no plan to end it under his
watch, and lied to the
American people as to why we
are fighting in Iraq. The same
President who flew from Air
force base to Air Force Base in
Air force 1 for most of the day
on 9/11 and the Vice President
who was in an undisclosed
location for months afterward,
both guided the nation grace-

fully. This is the same
President who cut taxes for the
wealthiest 5 percent of
Americans. The President who
allowed the first terrorist
attacks to happen on 9/11,
even after reading the memo
from Condoleezza Rice that
stated ‘Bin Laden plans an
attack on US soil’ , but he continued to stay on his month
long vacation. Where most

spend a few days in jail, most
have families to think about
and bills to pay, so most go
even though they don’t want
to. Then, the President says
that the troops who are now
expected to stay over their 12
month tour are not worthy of a
pay raise, because the $1000.00
a month they make is sufficient payment for putting their
lives on the line to protect
Corporate American Oil interests, not to mention the government can’t afford raises for
all those troops.
Lets not forget about the ‘all
volunteer Army’ who signed
up, not to go to war, but to be
part of the national guard to
help US citizens after a natural
disaster. Most of the so called
troops in Iraq and Afghanistan
had no formal military combat
training before they went over
there. Then, they were ill
equipped from the very start
with no body Armour,
Humvee’s that had no Armour
plating, not enough ammunition, not enough troops to do
the job, etc. Very few of these
military personnel can just
refuse to go to Iraq and fight
and accept the discharge or
In my opinion, the media does
not tell enough of the negative
things that are happening in
Iraq and Afghanistan. If the
American people really knew
all that is happening over there
and understood what a farce
the so called ‘war on terror’
really is, 98 percent of the people would be in the streets calling for a change in this country.

to them. Let’s not forget, constant abuses of power, obstruction of justice, the fact the Iraq
had nothing to do with 9/11, the
lack of response during

that grows by the second, the
pilfering of social security to
finance tax cuts, the buying of
our debt by countries like

finance this $200 million dollar

DRUG
WARNING:
STRAWBERRY QUICK
Drug traffickers are always
trying to lure in new customers, and one way to do this
is to make drugs seem less
dangerous than they really are.
There is a new form of
Crystallized Meth that is targeted at children. It is called
“Strawberry Quick” and it
looks like rock candy or the
“Pop Rocks” candy that sizzles
in your mouth. In its current
form, it is dark pink in color
and has a strawberry scent to it.
It was first reported in the
western states in January 2007.
The Department of Public
Safety of Nevada issued a bulletin about flavored meth
seized during a January search
of a gang member’s apartment.
According to intelligence gathered by Drug Enforcement
Administration (DEA) agents
from informants, users, local
police, and drug counselors,
colored meth has also been
found in California, Nevada,
Washington, Idaho, Texas, New
Mexico, Missouri, and
Minnesota. One DEA agent
reported a red methamphetamine that had been marketed
as a powdered form of an
energy drink.
In an effort to stem the tide of
this kind of drug, U.S. Senators

duced legislation in April 2007,
aimed at increasing the criminal penalties for anyone who
markets or makes candy-flavored drugs by imposing upon
them the same enhanced criminal sentences handed down to
drug dealers who knowingly
sell to minors. The Saving
Kids from Dangerous Drugs
Act would alter federal law
from its current state of requir-
ing doubled (or tripled for a
repeat offense) sentences for
those caught selling illegal
drugs to those under the age of

longer would a dealer have to
be caught red handed in the
act of selling to an under 21
for the doubled or tripled sentences to kick in; under the
proposed refinement to current law, simply possessing flavored versions of street drugs
would be enough.
Please advise your children
and their friends not to accept
candy from strangers as this is
obviously an attempt to seduce
children into drug use. They
also need to be cautious in
accepting candy from even
friends that may have received
it from someone else thinking
it is just candy. •
