HighHair 1980 - Vidal Sassoon
Vidal Sassoon’s Surreal HighHair was a huge success in
1980. This was the first time hair had been high on top for
many moons. There was no teasing! Innovative cuts and
perms were done on clients with their heads down.

Helen Oppenheim
Helen Oppenheim is considered a hair guru. She has a proven track record for spotting and making trends long before they make news.
She was born in London, lived in Montreal for many years and in New York City since 1978, all have had their influence. Since 1982,
with many other consultancies and assignments, she has been US Correspondent for Peluquerias, a photo-driven hair fashion magazine
published in Barcelona, Spain.
Her background includes PR & Creative Director of La Coupe Salons New York and Canada (on and off from the late 60s, to the 90s)
and Vidal Sassoon Salons (1979-1981) in the USA and Canada. She was “Ambassadress” to The John Sahag Workshop, which she
launched in 1985, then returned to from 1994-1997, and she has worked behind the scenes for many more in the hair world. And
freelanced for many magazines and newspapers. For more bio, check the website.
During the Sahag years, she took up photography and has taken her own photos backstage during Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion
Weeks for over a decade. The photos on film from the earlier years have yet to be scanned, but eventually they will be.
“I am influenced by fashion, art, the movies, the street, by the 3 countries I have lived in, and by all around me, past and present. I like
to do everything with a touch of class and quirk, and I believe that anything can be achieved, if one wants to do it enough but, if it’s not
done well, then it is not worth doing. I am proud to say I have never compromised on this and always give over 100% to everything I
do, whether working for nothing or a lot. All this has resulted in rooms full of hair and fashion photos some with priceless background
documentation for the creative process, a Helen Oppenheim Hair Library and resource, much of which will eventually become available
online in the Helen Oppenheim Hair Fashion Photo Archive on www.helenoppenheim.com
