JUNE 2015
Dear Parents,
As the 2014/2015 academic year draws to a close, I want to express to all of you my deepest appreciation for your support and a most earnest commendation for a job well done.
We had an extremely successful year at St. Helen’s School. I would like to thank all of you for giving
the staff and myself complete support in the education of your children. Many thanks also to our staff for their
never ending enthusiasm, professional leadership and dedication to extra-curricular activities.
We extend a special welcome to our new Kindergarten classes who attended their orientation day on
Thursday, May 14th, 2015.
To our Grade Seven students and all others who are leaving St. Helen’s School, we wish you much
happiness. We trust that the attitude you have developed and the skills you have learned will contribute to
your success in the future.
Thank you very much for being a friend and for believing in what we are trying to do for our young
people.
Sincerely,
Waldemar Sambor
Principal
BLESSED J.B. SCALABRINI
June 1st is the Feast of Blessed J. B. Scalabrini, founder of the Missionaries of St. Charles.
The Scalabrini Fathers started their service to St. Helen’s in 1973 with Fr. Ermette Nazani
as pastor and Fr. Livio Stella who was still a deacon at that time. We would like to thank
the Scalabrini fathers for their continued service to our St. Helen’s Community

FOOD BANK
We are approaching the end of the school year, and St.
Helen's Food Bank is in desperate need of food items.
We are assisting 33 families every two weeks, and we
are really running low in donations. We are asking you
and the students of St Helen's School to help us with the
most needed items: Pasta, sauces, juices, canned meat,
fish, ham, canned fruit, canned soups and cereals, etc.
We believe this will be one of the ways to show compassion and sympathy for those who are less fortunate.
One item or more for each student will be more than
appreciated and enable us to go through the summer
months.
Items should be brought to school the week of June 2226 to be presented at the last school mass of the year.
Thank You, in advance for all your help.

ST. HELEN’S PARISHEDUCATION COMMITTEE
For the coming year, we needed to elect three members from St. Helen’s Parish to St. Helen’s School Education Committee and one member from the parish was to be appointed. The deadline for nominations was
Monday, May 11th. As only three people applied, they will be elected by acclamation. They are Mr. Marco
Holzer, Ms. Gerardina Trasolini and Mrs. Maria Dente. Father Antonio has appointed Mr. Federico Gimenez.
Thank you to outgoing members Mr. Jon Tagulao, Mrs. Maria Michayluk and Mr. Roy Gaspar for their years
of service.
GOLF
Thank you to Mrs. Anita Orazietti, Chairperson,
Committee Members, Fr. Antonio as well as all the
volunteers for organizing a very successful 16th
Annual St. Helen’s Golf Tournament. Thank you
also to all of our sponsors who help us out year after year, their support is greatly appreciated. Proceeds from this event will go towards the capital
expenses of the parish. Special thanks to Mr. Sean
Ungemach for his 13 years of service as chair of the
committee. See attached golf brochures

COMMUNITY NEWS
Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Michael Miller on Saturday June 6th at 5:30 p.m. for the retirement of CISVA Superintendent Mr. Doug Lauson.
COBS BREAD from Kensington Square was kind enough to donate his time and product to the St. Helen’s golf
tournament this past Friday and it seemed to be enjoyed by all the golfers. The owner of this COBS location runs
a donation program which St.Helen’s is already part of. When you shop at his location and mention St.
Helen’s, 5% of your purchase will be donated back to our school. He has offered to increase that amount and
now donate 10% back to St.Helen’s for the next 2 weeks when our school is mentioned at the time of purchase.
STAFF
Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Drlje on the birth of their twin sons Niko and Maks
Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Canosa on the birth of their son Amadeo.

SATURDAY, JUNE 6TH
The students of St. Helen’s School will be given the opportunity to
participate in the North Burnaby “Hat’s Off Parade” on Saturday, June
6th, 2015. The parade will run from approximately 9:00 a.m. until 11:00
a.m.
St. Helen’s School Marching band will lead the parade. We are inviting
all St. Helen’s students and their families to join us behind the band to
represent our school community. The Marching Band students need to
wear their St. Helen’s full school uniform.
All other students are asked to wear our St. Helen’s Summer Uniform (no
gym strip please). Parents are asked to walk with their child as the size of
the crowd presents security issues. No child can be in the parade without
an accompanying adult since supervision cannot be offered. The Hats
Off Day Committee has asked all participants not to bring bikes, scooters,
roller blades, or skateboards.
The meeting place will be at Gamma & Hastings, Place #17.

A charity event with the net proceeds going towards the St. Helen’s school building fund.
St. Helen’s School is a Catholic community of dedicated educators
with Christ as our centre. It is our purpose to fully develop the
spiritual, intellectual, physical, social, artistic and emotional growth
of the students. Special regard is given to the individuality of each
child, enabling them as Christians to live, share, and serve in the
community while striving for personal excellence in all endeavors.
We are very proud of our school, especially the hard work of
our students, staff, parents, and the generosity and support from
everyone involved in the annual golf tournament.
