When you miss a call, voicemail records a message and then plays it back later. Unfortunately, it’s not always convenient for you to listen to your messages. Some places are too loud, some are too quiet – and sometimes you simply don’t have a pen handy! The mobile internet has been designed to fit the screen of a mobile phone, offering you a wide range of essential services when you need them. When you access the mobile internet using 3, you’ll be able to take advantage of impressive third-generation information and entertainment services. Simply use the 4-way Navigation key to scroll around the screen and then make your selection: printing your pictures talk 2 text Here at The Carphone Warehouse, we want to make things easier for you. That’s why we’ve joined up with the technical experts at SpinVox to offer a voicemail service that turns your messages into text. When someone leaves you a voicemail message, it’ll be converted into text and sent straight to your mobile phone. Not only does it make life easier, it also Mobile internet settings Step by step tip • If your phone hasn’t been set up, you’ll need to enter the settings for GPRS (fast data) • Press the Triangle key (below the red ‘handset’ key) • Press the Triangle key to return to the main 3 menu at any time • Your new handset will need to be provisioned with the relevant settings before a photo message can be sent • After a few seconds, you’ll be connected to 3 services. Use the 4-way Navigation key to move around the screen • To get the relevant settings, visit www.carphonewarehouse.com/gprs, and select LG in the automatic settings section • The Today on 3 menu brings you the pick of the day’s top stories, whilst the Services menu lists everything that’s available • When information is highlighted with a blue box, you can press the OK key to select it • There’s no charge for browsing through the menu of services – and you’re not charged for the amount of time you’re connected. You simply pay for the information you request • Synchronisation of your calendar and contacts with Microsoft Outlook. • The menu of 3 services isn’t available if you’re outside 3’s video service area • Put the LG U8138 CD-ROM in your PC but don’t connect your phone yet • Follow the step-by-step instructions on the LG configurator, entering handset model and phone number where prompted. The settings will then be sent as a text message • Press the red ‘handset’ key when you’ve finished using the menu of 3 services • When the message arrives, it will ask you whether you would like to save or discard the settings. Select save company voicemail activation personalisation • Press and hold the 1 key to set up your voicemail • You’ll be connected after a few seconds • You can also access your voicemail service by calling 123 from your handset or by calling 07782 333 123 from any other phone. If you call from another phone, you’ll need to enter your mobile number as well as your 4-digit PIN • Follow the voice instructions to choose a 4-digit PIN code, which will protect your voicemail service • You’ll then be asked to personalise your voicemail greeting • Press the red ‘handset’ key to end the call when you’ve finished 0870 7330 333 www.vodafone.co.uk You can print photos and other images from your mobile phone by using The Carphone Warehouse online photo store. Setting it up Step by step • Visit www.carphonewarehouse.com /photos from any computer connected to the internet • Once you’ve registered, you can send pictures to your online account. This will store them and save them for printing • Follow the on-screen instructions to register your details • You’re now ready to start transferring pictures from your mobile phone to your new online album • Simply send your photos as a picture message to 07743 890891 • Any photos that you send to this number will automatically appear in your online account • You can then visit www.carphonewarehouse.com /photos from any computer to arrange for your photos to be printed Step by step • The CD should run automatically. (If it doesn’t, select the LG Installer program from the CD) • Follow the on-screen instructions to choose a language and install the Phone Manager software or 333 from your mobile “Printing your pictures from your mobile has never been easier, thanks to our online photo store” • Register for an online photo album account by clicking Register Now, which is on the right-hand side of your computer screen • File Manager to backup your phone’s memory and to transfer files, images, video clips and music between your PC and mobile phone • When the installation has finished, click Install Phone Manager contact details www.carphonewarehouse.co.uk The LG U8138 is supplied with a set of useful programs to help you manage your mobile phone by using your computer. These programs include: • Follow the on-screen instructions to choose a language and install the Sync software Voicemail takes messages when you’re not able to answer your mobile phone. The 3 network lets you greet callers with your own message, which is more personal and reassures people that they’ve called the right number. To discover more, ask in any Carphone Warehouse store or visit: using the LG U8138 with your PC • Next, click Install PC Sync on your PC screen setting up voicemail saves you time. We’ll even include the caller’s number in the message, so you can call them right back. • When the installation has finished, click Exit to close the LG CD program • You can now connect your LG U8138 to your PC by attaching the USB cable to your phone and the PC. Follow any on-screen instructions whilst your PC identifies the phone. (If you’re using Windows XP, you should click ‘Continue Anyway’ if you’re shown any on-screen warnings). When you’re asked to install software drivers, you’ll find these on the CD-ROM Synchronisation • Connect your LG U8138 to your PC • Double-click the new LG Sync Manager icon on your PC desktop • The first time you do this, you’ll be asked to enter details for your new phone. Choose an on-screen ID (e.g. your name) to identify your mobile phone. If you don’t want to passwordprotect your data, click the Do not use password box • To copy information from Microsoft Outlook to your mobile phone, click File and then click Import Outlook Data • To get the best results, make sure that the camera on your LG U8138 is set to a picture size of 640 x 480 and a picture quality of High. Check this by activating the camera and pressing Options, then press 1 for Size or 2 for Quality. Use the 4-way Navigation key to highlight the appropriate setting, then press the OK key • You can let friends and family see your online photo albums on their own computers by clicking share this album on www.carphonewarehouse.com /photos and selecting the share option. Enter their email addresses to send them a personal invitation, which also enables them to order any of your photos tip • Your phone can be synchronised with Microsoft Outlook or with the LG Desktop Manager program. Just log in to www.carphonewarehouse.com /photos and click Upload photos • To synchronise your contacts, calendar and tasks between your PC and phone, click the ‘two arrow’ Synchronise symbol at the top of the screen. You can use this option whenever you want to update your phone and PC with any information you’ve changed. This is called ‘standby’ mode • Enter the person’s phone number • To make a voice call, press the green ‘handset’ key “A special moment that you want to capture and share” • To make a video call, press the video call key (above the 1 key) • Press the red ‘handset’ key to end the call This phone has a special ‘camera’ key to make taking photos easy. Just press it for a couple of seconds to activate the camera, then press it again to take your photo. calling someone from your contact list Camera lens (on back) Rotating camera Right ‘soft’ key: activates the function displayed at the bottom-right of the screen Left ‘soft’ key: activates the function displayed at the bottom-left of the screen • To make a voice call, press the green ‘handset’ key tip • To make a video call, press the video call key • Use the keypad to enter the first letter of the person’s name • Press the red ‘handset’ key to end the call • You can answer a voice call or a video call by pressing the green ‘handset’ key ‘Clear’ key Back key Step by step • Look at your contacts list by pressing the bottom of the 4-way Navigation key (the ‘people’ symbol below the OK key) • Use the 4-way Navigation key to highlight the person you want to call • Press and hold the camera key (on the left-hand side of the phone below the volume control) for a couple of seconds until the camera is activated • Rotate the lens to the best position for taking photos • Your mobile phone will switch on its built-in loudspeaker when you answer a video call, so you won’t need to hold the phone next to your ear • Use the screen as a viewfinder • Press the OK key (or the camera key) to take your photo • If you’re happy with the photo, press the OK key again to save it 4-way Navigation key Volume controls (on side) End/exit: ends current call or exits current function. Hold it down to switch on and off Call: enter a phone number and press to make a call ‘OK’ key: also activates the function displayed at the bottomcentre of the screen Video/Camera key (on side) Video call: enter a phone number and press to make a video call Triangle key: connects you to the menu of 3 services Menu key tip • Save will be shown at the bottom-centre of the screen. Press the OK key to select this • You can navigate through the menu by pressing the MENU key, using the 4-way Navigation key to select the option you want, then pressing the OK key • New contact will be highlighted. Press the OK key • Press 9 to select Settings • Press 2 to select Handset • Time will be highlighted. Press the OK key • Use the phone’s keypad to enter the time (hours, minutes and seconds). You can change between am and pm by pressing the right-hand soft key when this option is highlighted • Press the OK key when you’ve entered the time • Name will be highlighted. Use the keypad to enter the person’s name • Press 2 to select Date • Enter the date, then press the OK key • Press the BACK key or the red ‘handset’ key to exit • Press the bottom of the 4-way Navigation key to select any other information you want to enter, such as the person’s email address • Done will be shown at the bottom-centre of the screen. When you’ve finished, press the OK key to select this tip • You can press the top of the 4-way Navigation key to zoom in (and press the bottom to zoom out again) before you take the photo, although the zoom isn’t available if you’ve selected the maximum picture size • Press Options (the left-hand ‘soft’ key) followed by 3 to use the flash for photos in the dark • Switch between the standard camera and video modes by pressing the left or right-hand sides of the 4-way Navigation key • When you’re in standby mode, you can see your photos by pressing Multimedia (the left-hand ‘soft’ key), then pressing 3 to select Image viewer. Finally, press 2 to select My images. Use the 4-way Navigation key to highlight a photo, then press OK to enlarge it “Your mobile phone has a built-in video player and video recorder” Capture memorable moving moments with your video recorder – it’s just as easy as taking a photo! Step by step • Activate the video camera by pressing the camera key, which is below the volume control on the left-hand side of the phone. Don’t press the key for too long, otherwise you’ll activate the standard camera instead • Press the OK key (or the camera key) to start recording • Rotate the lens to the best position for recording your video clip • Press the red ‘handset’ key when you’ve finished recording • When you’re in standby mode, you can list all of your contacts by pressing the bottom of the 4-way Navigation key (marked with the ‘people’ symbol) • If you’ve stored your contacts in your mobile’s memory, it’s easy to personalise them by adding photos to their entries. Press the bottom of the 4-way Navigation key, then use it to highlight the contact you want to update. Press Options, then press 6 to select Edit. Press the bottom of the 4-way Navigation key until you highlight Image, then press Add (the right-hand ‘soft’ key). Choose an existing image or take a new photo. If you don’t have a photo, add an ‘avatar’ cartoon instead sending a photo to a friend You can send photos to almost any mobile phone. If your friend doesn’t have a camera phone, they’ll receive a text message telling them how to pick your message up from the web. • From standby mode, press Multimedia (the left-hand ‘soft’ key) • Press OK again to select the sending options, then press it once more to send your message • Press the OK key (or the camera key) to start recording • Rotate the lens to the best position for taking photos, then press the OK key to take your photo • When the message has been sent, press the red ‘handset’ key to clear the screen • Press the OK key again to stop recording, or wait for the recording to stop automatically • When the message arrives, it will ask you whether you would like to save or discard the settings. Select save • You then need to repeat the first four steps for GPRS settings at www.carphonewarehouse.com/gprs • Your phone will then be ready to send and receive MMS • Press the camera key to activate the video camera • Press Send (the left-hand ‘soft’ key). • Press Send (the left-hand ‘soft’ key) • Multimedia msg will be highlighted. Press OK tip • Multimedia msg will be highlighted. Press OK • MMS and Multimedia Message are both alternative names for a picture message • Enter the recipient’s mobile number. (Alternatively, press Contacts and search for their number in your mobile’s memory) • Press the bottom of the 4-way Navigation key until Slide is highlighted, then press Edit (the right-hand ‘soft’ key) • Press the bottom of the 4-way Navigation key to select the space below Message, then enter some text to accompany your photo • Stuck for inspiration? Show everyone your new haircut, a new outfit, your best friend or even tonight’s dinner. Thinking of someone special? Send them a cheeky self portrait to let them know! • You can switch between the standard camera and video modes by pressing the left or right-hand sides of the 4-way Navigation key • To change the preset recording time, press Options followed by 6 to select Duration. The standard setting is Multi. msg size, which is the best choice for sending to other mobile phones • You’ll be shown a list of videos stored in your mobile’s memory. Use the 4-way Navigation key to highlight your chosen video • Press the OK key to play the video • Press the BACK key or the red ‘handset’ key when you’ve finished VIDEO Step by step • Press and hold the camera key (on the left-hand side of the phone below the volume control) for a couple of seconds until the camera is activated • Enter the recipient’s mobile number. (Alternatively, press Contacts and search for their number in your mobile’s memory) • Press Options (the left-hand ‘soft’ key) followed by OK to use the light for recording in the dark sending a video clip to another mobile • Your new handset will need to be provisioned with the relevant settings before a photo message can be sent • Follow the step-by-step instructions on the LG configurator, entering handset model and phone number where prompted. The phone’s main menu will appear • Press the red ‘handset’ key when you’ve finished taking photos adding numbers to the phone book • Press the left or right side of the 4-way Navigation key to change the category (Mobile, home, office etc.) setting the time & date recording a video clip taking a photo • Press the bottom of the 4-way Navigation key until Slide is highlighted, then press Edit (the right-hand ‘soft’ key) • Press the bottom of the 4-way Navigation key to select the space below Message, then enter some text to accompany your photo • When you’ve finished, press the OK key • Press OK again to select the sending options, then press it once more to send your message • When the message has been sent, press the red ‘handset’ key to clear the screen tip • Mobile networks restrict the size of a video message that can be sent to another mobile, which is why the standard settings for the LG U8138 automatically stop recording after a few seconds • Remember that video clips can only be viewed on compatible mobile phones and PCs
