is the constantly developing port infrastructure, as well as charter and training
activities.
The organisation which comprises the leading entities active in
the broadly defined marine industry in Poland is The Polish Chamber of Marine Industry and Water
Sports – POLBOAT. The Chamber is
a member of ICOMIA and EBI, international organisations of the marine industry, in which our representatives are
members of supervisory boards. This
clearly demonstrates the position of the
Polish marine industry in the international arena.
This catalogue is a collection of information on the leading companies active in the marine industry in Poland.
I would like to recommend this publication to all the current and future
partners of our industry, as well as to
everyone interested in its development.
I am confident that this catalogue will
contribute to disseminating the knowledge about the marine industry in
Poland and abroad, as well as to establishing many beneficial trade relations.
I would also like to thank the Ministry of Economy for financing this edition of the catalogue and the company
Yacht Expo for helping us compile the
catalogue.

I am proud to present the Catalogue
of the Marine Industry in Poland.
After much effort of a large group
of people, we have managed to complete the project born in the minds
of the Chamber’s founders many
years ago – to promote and present
our sector in the international arena
in a concise and clear manner.
The Polish marine industry has been
developing for years and although it
is often closely tied with the heavy
shipbuilding industry, it is a separate
branch. In contrast to the shipbuilding industry, our sector is faring very
well, constantly increasing its potential and extending the scope of activity. Currently, the marine industry
is considered one of the most important, most innovative and most
dynamically developing branches
of the Polish economy.
The potential of our shipyards
amounts to 22,000 recreational vessels per year. In the segment of motorboats up to 9 metres in length,
we are the second producer in the
world, after the United States. Our
largest yacht yards, such as: Galeon,
Delphia Yachts, Sunreef Yachts, Ostróda Yacht, Balt Yacht, Model Art/
Parker or Ślepsk account for approx.
70 % of the entire annual production.
These are boats produced both under Polish brand names and for large
foreign shipyards. We are proud that
our industry produces such foreign
brands as: Jeanneau, Beneteau, Qucksilver, Sea Ray, Windy, Bayliner, Uttern, X-Yacht, Faeton, Maxi Yachts,
Fiskars Boats, and Askeladden Boats,
among others. This proves the high
position of the Polish marine industry
in the world and shows that it is truly
competitive. Due to a smart policy
of reinvesting most of the income
generated in the last two decades, our
factories are among the most modern
ones in Europe.
In total, the sector comprises around
900 companies throughout Poland.
Another important fact is that the Polish marine industry is more than just
yacht yards and includes a highly developed network of producers of components and parts, as well as suppliers
of production and maintenance materials for boats and yachts. The superb
quality of the services allowed many
of our suppliers to establish lasting cooperation with leading producers of
yachts all over the world. An important
element further increasing the importance of the marine industry in Poland

The largest and most important
yacht yards are located in four
Polish regions: Western Pomerania (Szczecin, Kołobrzeg, Koszalin), Pomerelia (Gdańsk, Gdynia),
Warmia and Masuria (Ostróda,
Giżycko, Olsztyn) and the Suwałki
Region (Augustów, Olecko). It is
there that more than 80 % of Polish sailing yachts and motorboats
are produced. These four regions
are the cradle of Polish sailing and
the marine industry. It is also there
that the industry’s scientific and
research base has been developing,

try a strong position in the international markets. Establishing this
base required many years and the
efforts of many skilled people. Our
high position is the result of work
of people who spent years designing and constructing sail and motor yachts. For more than 40 years,
we used to belong to a block of
countries where each state had
designated sectors of economy to
specialise in. Poland was selected
to become the main producer of
tanks and yachts, among others.
Production of armoured fighting
vehicles was not much of a suc-
ing rapidly. In the early 1990s,
the value of the approx. 3000 finished boats was a couple million
dollars. Today, the production is
more than 15,000 sailing and motor boats and worth several hundred million dollars. We should
also add that in 2005–2007, when
production all over the world was
growing at the rate of a dozen or
so percent yearly, the sale of Polish
yachts exceeded 22,500 per year!
We can assume that this is also the
real potential of Polish yacht yards.
The global economic crisis has
caused a deep recession of the marine industry. In the USA, sales
dropped by more than 50 % and
the situation in Europe was only
slightly better. Polish shipyards
rely heavily on exports, as approx.
95 % of their production is sent
abroad. Consequently, recession
has struck Poland as well. Fortunately, the crisis has not been as
deep here as in other regions due
to the fact that our industry specialises in the production of smaller vessels, for which there was still
considerable demand. In 2012, the
number of yachts produced in Poland dropped to approx. 15–16,000

The Polish marine industry has a long tradition. Many shipyards were established after World War I, when Poland
regained independence in 1918, after 123 years of suffering
under the yoke of bondage, but there are also some which
were known already in the 19th century and some which are
brand-new and ultramodern!

has managed pretty well and is
flourishing in present-day market
economy as well. Even now, many
of the yachts cruising the waters
of the former Soviet Union – Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania,
Latvia, and Estonia – are labelled
as ‘Made in Poland’. However, only
after the transformation of the political system, market economy was
free to develop in Poland so was,
with extraordinary dynamism, the
marine industry. Foreign capital
started flowing into Poland. The
largest producers in the world
– Brunswick Marine, Jeanneau,
Beneteau – place orders for their
yachts and boats with Polish shipyards, not only because workforce
is cheaper in Poland, but principally because this workforce is professional, experienced, and handles
difficult production with excellent skill. Seeing an opportunity to
make a profit, new national business entities are established, and so
are yacht yards and factories producing rigging and equipment for
yachts.
In the last two decades, production
of yachts in Poland has been grow-

units. However, we should note that
despite the decrease in the number
of boats produced and the crisis in
the global markets which has lasted
since 2007, essentially the turnover
of our industry is not falling. The
reason for this is the change of the
structure of yacht production to
slightly larger, better equipped and
more expensive vessels on the one
hand, and on the other hand, with
inflation and the resulting increase
of unit prices.
In 2002, the Boating Industry Association ‘Polish Yachts’ was established. Its members include the major producers of the Polish marine
industry. Since in the following
years production and demand for
Polish yachts and boats was growing rapidly and the Association
wanted to secure its interests, it
transformed itself into an economic chamber. The Polish Chamber of

POLBOAT was established on 11
May 2006 in Warsaw. Its founding
members were a hundred business
entities active in the fields of production, services, water sports and
recreation. Many years of efforts of
people among whom many were
members of the ‘Polish Yachts’ AsPOLISH BOATING INDUSTRY CATALOGUE 2013/2014
sociation finally culminated in the
establishment of a higher organisational form, namely an Economic
Chamber. Once the relevant legal
procedures were concluded, the
Chamber launched official operations on 1 January 2007. It is the
founding members’ vision to have
the Chamber continue on the
fruitful path of the Boating Industry Association ‘Polish Yachts’.
The Economic Chamber is an obligatory partner for the legislative
and executive. This allows us to act
much more effectively to further
the interests of the entire industry.
The successes and export achievements of the Polish marine industry are well known and envied by
our foreign competitors. Now it is
time to develop the national market as well and take advantage of
the full potential that a country
with 40 million inhabitants located
in the centre of Europe is bound to
have.

When the first Wind and Water
Fair was organised in Poland for the
young yachting industry a quarter
of a century ago, there was no way
to distinguish the most interesting
products or boats presented at the
exhibition. Therefore, the editor-inchief Jerzy Fijka and the journalists
of the monthly Żagle invented the
‘gwoździe’ – highlights of the Fair –
which they started awarding to the
exhibitors who presented the prettiest and most interesting boats and
innovative products. This is how the
story of the awards for Polish yachting industry started.
Jerzy Fijka passed away in the mid1990s, but the award remained and
was gaining increasing importance
and prestige alongside the development of the industry and the Wind
and Water Fair. To honour the charismatic editor-in-chief of Żagle, it
was named ‘Gwóźdź Targów Wiatr
i Woda Nagroda Miesięcznika Żagle
im. Jerzego Fijki’, i.e. the Jerzy Fijka
Award of the Monthly Żagle Highlight of the Wind and Water Fair. For
almost a decade now, the jury of the
award comprised the magazine’s reporters – the editor-in-chief Waldemar Heflich, Stanisław Iwiński, Jerzy
‘Żagle’ – Waldemar Heflich. Its jury
is composed of journalists and collaborators of the monthly, as well
as experienced sailors, constructors
and engineers – all of them great
enthusiasts of yachting. Each subsequent edition of the award, and so
far there were four – starts with new
models of yachts being entered in
the competition by shipyards, dealers and importers. The condition is
that these new yachts have to be on
the offer of the companies entering
them in the year preceding the given
edition of the award. Consequently,
the 2014 award is given to boats the
sales of which started in 2013. The
deadline for entering yachts in the
competition ends with the last day
of June.
As it is the case with international
competitions, in the first phase the
jury evaluates the yachts on the basis of drawings, photographs and
descriptions. The most interesting
ones are nominated for the award,
which is announced during the exhibitors’ evening of the summer
Wind and Water Fair in Gdynia. The
jury announces the nominations of
18 vessels, 3 in each category: Small
Sail Yacht (up to 7.5 m), Large Sail

In yachting, as in any other industry of note, there are competitions and polls culminating in awards for products which
stand out from the others or the appearance of which in the
market could significantly impact the development of the
given branch of the economy.

industry, experienced sailors and
yacht designers.
Today, the award is given in four categories: small sail yachts up to 7.5 m,
large sail yachts, small motor yachts,
large motor yachts, as well as rigging
and equipment. Only new products
are eligible for the award, the ones
which are presented for the first time
at the Warsaw Wind and Water Fair
and entered in the competition by
the exhibitors before or at the start
of the exhibition. The award ceremony is held on the second and third
day of the Fair, first during the ceremonial gala for the exhibitors and
special guests and then on the main
stage in the exhibition hall with the
visitors present.
Only producers and importers who
present their offer at the Wind and
Water Fair are eligible to participate
in the Fair’s competitions. Thus,
it was only a matter of time before
another award would emerge – for
all the vessels offered in the Polish
market. This one was named the
‘Jacht Roku w Polsce’ – ‘Polish Boat
of the Year’ – and was established by
the editor-in-chief of the magazine

Yacht, Special Sail Yacht, Open Motor
Yacht, Cruiser Motor Yacht, and Displacement Motor Yacht. From then
on, the jury examines the nominated
vessels in detail and eventually selects
the ‘Polish Boat of the Year’ in each category. The awards for the given year are
announced and presented to the winners during the spring Wind and Water Fair in Warsaw.
This award was established specifically
for the summer edition of the Wind
and Water Fair. Its full name is: Gdynia
Yacht Design – Nagroda Prezydenta
Gdyni (Award of the President of
Gdynia), and it was launched in 2010.
The jury selects the prettiest yachts of
the exhibition in Gdynia. The choice
is made by a unique group of specialists: Janusz Kaniewski – long-standing
designer for Pininfarina and Ferrari,
lecturer at Istituto Europeo di Design
in Torino and Royal College of Art in
London, Leszek Gonciarz – designer
of LG, Sedna, Noon yachts, master vessels of the Micro class, and the interiors
of numerous cruisers, and Stanisław
Iwiński – secretary of the jury, head of
the motorboat section of the monthly
Żagle, experienced sailor, a regular at
marine salons and yacht exhibitions all
over the world. It is the first award in
Poland to be based solely on the design
of the most beautiful yachts presented
at the fair in Gdynia. We can be sure,
however, that not only the looks of
the yacht are taken into account. As
Janusz Kaniewski stated right before
the award ceremony in 2013, ‘design
involves not only the beauty of form,
but primarily functionality.’ Consequently, the title of the most beautiful
yacht of the exhibition in Gdynia goes
to yachts which exhibit the right looks,
but also high functionality.
Apart from these three key awards in
the Polish yachting market, there are
also others, no less prestigious. For example, The Polish Chamber of Marine
Industry has an award for the most
interesting product of the Wind and
Water Fair, as does the Polish Yachting
Association, which awards the ‘Golden
Bell’ to the most interesting yacht presented at the Boatshow fair in Łódź.
At the same exhibition, the organisers
give medals and commendations in
various categories – to best sail yachts,
motor yachts and rigging equipment.
It is not a coincidence that every industry of note organises competitions
for the most interesting, best or prettiest products. These awards are the distinction deservedly given to producers
and usually translate into increased interest of clients in the product.

Presentation
In 2013, Aquatic Yachts presented
a new model of a sail yacht – Aquatic
25T, with new solutions in terms of
cockpit and deck area development
and large windows ensuring the optimum amount of daylight. The cabin has comfortable bunks, located
at the stern, bow and in the mess,
which can accommodate up to eight
crew members. In the new yacht, the
producer put the stern bunk a bit
higher and in the present form the

bunk exceeds the standards promoted for 7.5 metre-long vessels. Thanks
to the higher stern bunk, there is
more space for the crew for resting
and storing personal belongings.
In its standard version, Aquatic 25T
has many functional shelves and
lockers, which provide enough space
for the luggage of the entire crew.
The galley consists of a cooker, sink
and functional cupboards. Each vessels has a separate bathroom cabin
with a chemical toilet, washbasin
and space for sailing equipment. The
boat is equipped with energy-saving
LED light bulbs, which perfectly illuminate the cabin after dark.

Aquatic Yachts is a Polish
family shipyard specializing in the production of sail
yachts. Its main aim is to satisfy the needs of those for
whom sailing is a passion,
of those who are looking for
a fast boat with a sport profile, and of non-professional
sailors who like to spend
their time sailing a comfortable yacht.

25T has a yet richer equipment, including: a galley with a fridge, heating, TV set and loudspeaker system
connected to the radio. On the outside, it has a modern navigation system, a shower on the stern and the

The event is an excellent opportunity to browse through the current
offer of components, prefabs, services and technology dedicated to
producers of modern boats, all in
one place and at the same time. This
way, the organiser of the Fair – the
company Demuth Alfa – pursues
the strategy of active participation
in the development of an important
sector of the Polish economy.
The first edition of ARBOS Poland,
held in September 2013, was visited by almost 2000 professionals,
including producers of yachts, designers and constructors, who were
looking for innovative solutions

Centre. The Centre has more than
27,000 square metres of area available for the organization of fairs,
exhibitions, congresses, conferences, and other kinds of events. Its six
comfortable conference halls and
numerous options of area arrangement can accommodate between
a dozen and 1200 participants. The
guests can use the Centre’s free
parking for 1200 vehicles and restaurant for up to 800 people. The
new exhibition centre is located in
the vicinity of beautiful Masurian
lakes and high-standard hotels.

Balt-Yacht was established in 1990,
when family boatbuilding traditions,
reaching far back to the pre-war period, turned into a professional shipyard – the first one in north-eastern
Poland. Today, it is one of the five
largest yacht yards in Poland, producing motor, sail and rowing boats
of polyester-glass laminates, with
hull length from 3 to 15 metres.

For the first time, the WIND and
WATER Fair took place in 1990, in
Zegrze, and since 1991 it has been
held in Warsaw. It is a meeting venue
for representatives of the industry
and enthusiasts of motor yachting,
canoeing, diving, and snorkelling
from all around Poland. With each
passing year, the event is attracting more interest of exhibitors and
visitors from abroad. Invariably,

The water sports magazine Żagle has been published
monthly since January 1959. Today, it is one of the largest
and most popular sailing magazines in Poland. It deals with
sailing diligently and professionally and provides valuable
practical information and advice.

203x275 format. It is available at
newsagent’s shops all over Poland,
and since January 2010 also in the
electronic form. Żagle is the only
periodical devoted to this subject
which belongs to the Audit Bureau of Circulations Poland (ZKDP
– ABC Poland). The estimated number of readers is 14,000, of which
most are men (76 %). The monthly
is most popular among young people. Almost 25 % of the readers are
between 15 and 24 years old and almost as many are between 25 and
34. Żagle is read primarily by people
with higher education (63.1 %) and
secondary education (27 %). Almost
half of the readers have a permanent
job (almost 63 %) and almost 30 %
have a very good financial situation
– they state that they have the money
for all expenses. More than one third
resides in cities of 500,000 and more
inhabitants.
Owing to the large number of people
working with Żagle – eminent sailors from Poland and abroad – the
magazine is perceived as opinionforming, having a strong and estab-
lished position in the sailing community. Its sections present the most
