artist shares the secrets to
four of this season’s key looks.

H ALLE BERRY
No one does screen siren glamour better than Amanda, whose
signature style is warm neutral shades to complement her green eyes,
teamed with a striking classic red lip. The A/W 2012 catwalk was awash
with red lips — a trend that works just as well off the red carpet too,
for a bold daytime look. Follow the top techniques overleaf to make
red lips last all night or all day long!
Halle has always been a big fan of the smoky eye and neutral lips but
with this current look she gives it a winter ’12 twist by moving towards
more of a ‘smudgy’ effect. And Halle is definitely in vogue as one
of this season’s key make-up trends is worn-in eyeliner — a simple
technique with dramatic results that’s easily achieved with a black eye
pencil and a smudging brush.

the most out of this look, keep the rest of your make-up simple with
just a hint of colour on your lips and eyes. Give your complexion a
‘candlelit glow’ like Rachel’s by building up sheer layers of illuminating,
light reflective products.

T H E L O O K : The red carpet red lip
FA C E : Start with a matt finish foundation like
Giorgio Armani Maestro fusion, which has a
virtually invisible look and feel.
E Y E S : Wash a creamy shadow over the eye
area, honey brown shadow on the lid, a little
bronze in the crease, and finish with dark
caramel below the lower lashes. Find all four
shades in Tom Ford eye colour quad in golden
mink. Team with two coats of black mascara.
L I P S : Use a long lasting lipstick base like MAC prep
and prime lip. Apply a red pencil to the lip line and
then colour in the whole of the lips. Try
Lipstick Queen lip liner in rouge. Follow
with a richly pigmented lipstick such as
YSL rouge pur couture lipstick in rouge
roxane (the perfect red!). And forget lip
brushes… red lipstick lasts longer when
it’s pressed on directly from the
bullet and patted in with
a fingertip.

T H E L O O K : The smudgy eye
FA C E : Apply a medium coverage foundation
with a satin finish such as Urban Decay naked
skin weightless ultra definition liquid makeup
and add a touch of terracotta blush to the
cheekbones like MAC powder blush in melba.
E Y E S : Forget the smokey eye, this season is
all about ‘the smudge’, which doesn’t require
any clever blending. Do your eyes before your
foundation to keep your base looking fresh.
Apply Bobbi Brown long wear gel eyeliner in black ink to the lashes
using an eyeliner brush. Use your fingertips to pat a browngrey liquid shadow like Becca eye tint in paracus over
the eyelid and in the socket. To blend the two, swipe
a Laura Mercier smudge brush across the eyeliner,
flicking it up slightly at the corners of the eyes.
L I P S : Nude gloss tends to work
best with dramatic
eyes. Try Shiseido
lacquer rouge
in camel.

T H E L O O K : Peaches and cream
FA C E : Start with an anti-ageing moisturiser
containing cell renewing ingredients, such as
SK-II essential power moisturiser, which
sits beautifully under make-up. Follow with a
hydrating foundation
such as Chanel
VitaLumiere Aqua.
C H E E K S : Cream
blushers give a more
youthful finish than powders and are easily
applied to the cheeks with fingertips. Try By
Terry blush veloute in peach.
E Y E S : Keep the eyes looking fresh with a
wash of shimmery nude eye shadow applied
all over the eye area. I like Nars shimmer
eye shadow in bombshell. For a touch of
subtle glamour add Laura Mercier corner
faux lashes before applying mascara.
L I P S : Choose a nude lipstick in a peach hue
to complement the complexion. Try Dolce &
Gabbana classic cream lipstick in nude.
T H E L O O K : Light and luminous
FA C E : Apply moisturiser and use a pearlescent
liquid highlighter across the cheekbones
like Becca shimmering skin perfector in
moonstone. Follow with a light
reflecting foundation such
as YSL teint touche eclat.
Using a large powder brush,
apply bareMinerals powder
in bare radiance – like a cross
between a highlighter, bronzer and face powder that
warms the complexion when used around
the temples, cheeks and bridge of the nose.
E Y E S : Keep the focus on the skin by
using just a touch of black eyeliner around
the entire lash line and soften any harsh
lines with a cotton bud. Try Bobbi Brown
long wear eye pencil in jet.
L I P S : Try coral on the lips for a ‘skin
brightening’ effect. Estee Lauder
pure colour gloss in impulsive
coral suits all skin tones.
