So how can you market your dance club? Tell family and friends about us
and the benefits of joining. We have brochures you can use and they are free
for the asking. Give them out or one of our newsletters. Leave a brochure at
the lunch table at work.
Please take a look at the last page of the newsletter. You will see many of the
board members doing double even triple duties to keep us running smoothly.
Please consider lending a hand.
We need more members to help us keep with the steady pace of growth our club has benefitted
by. Help us grow members by joining the membership committee (see next page).
You don’t need to be a board member to attend meetings and/or help out. You don’t even need to
attend board meetings to give us suggestions for events or membership growth ideas. Just send
us an email at dakotacountrydanceclub.org
So who do you know that would benefit from Dakota Country Dance Club? Give them a brochure or newsletter or simply email them a link to our amazing website. Put our dance
club out there and see where we can go! http://www.dakotacountrydanceclub.org
Rick Mayko is currently a Board Member for DCDC. I have previously held DCDC
positions as Vice-President, President, Treasurer, and Board Member. I started
line and couples dancing in January 1998 at the old Twister’s Night Club in Tea. I
then continued to dance at the old Grain Bin on Upper Cliff Ave and then at
Buck’s. I joined DCDC in March of that year. My favorite dances are Hustle, Freestyle ChaCha, Night Club Two, East Coast Swing, and Waltz.
When I’m not dancing (and that a rarity), I spend a lot of time maintaining the expansive yard of Mary Houska’s property! I used to play a lot in a racquetball
league (still looking to play someone at the C-D level). I also spend time maintaining a 29 gallon salt water fish tank and I’m adding to it all the time. I have two 8 X 25 foot city garden plots
at a community garden area in SE Sioux Falls I garden at. I used to hike a lot in the Rocky
Mountains but I now like to travel, hike, camp, fish and sight see in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and
Michigan. My favorite time to travel is in the fall to view the colors on the trees.
I’ve been employed as an Urban and Community Forester with the South Dakota Department
of Agriculture for 23 years. I moved to Watertown, South Dakota in July of 1991 and then transferred to Sioux Falls in May of 1996.
I’m originally from Binghamton, New York. My oldest brother and sister live in Binghamton and I
have another brother in Wimauma, Florida. Both of my parents have passed on. I don’t have
many relatives left-an aunt in Larksville, PA and distant cousins around the US.
Dakota Country Dance Club is looking for
someone to fill the following positions:
Membership Committee
We need a Chairperson and a few committee members. You would meet with
the committee and present the board on
ideas on how to introduce our club to the
community and show them why it is
smart to become a member.
I wanted to give a special thank you to all who came to my
Super Hero Birthday Party! It is great to have such good
friends!

Dakota Country Dance Club is looking for someone to fill the following position:
Board Member-1 year duration
Attend board meetings regularly, volunteer for projects and events.
A little dance card history!
For what it's worth, a Dance Card is an archaic term for a pre
-printed card that used to be distributed at formal dances,
like school dances.
The card would identify the dances in order, some even identified the song that would be danced to. It had lines on it for
you to write the name of the person you danced with, and the
practice was to put the name of the person you promised the
dance to on the line in advance, and check off having danced
that dance with them afterwards.
That way, if a guy asked a girl to waltz, and her dance card
didn't have any more waltz lines left, she could decline but
offer him a foxtrot. They'd negotiate what dance to do together and write each others names on the correct line so they'd
know who they would be dancing with for the rest of the
evening.
Afterwards, you can keep your dance card as a souveneir.
