It is a fun, intense week of hockey instruction that will challenge both the beginner and intermediate player to improve. This week is designed for boys and girls in Learn to Play, Intro to Hockey and House League programs. See below for specifics pertaining to each age group. 10 and Under: 7:45am-1:00pm ($435) Super Friday Game 8:15-9:15AM The main focus of this camp is on the basic fundamentals of hockey. This clinic teaches the fundamentals of skating, puck handling, passing and shooting. Players will learn shooting techniques, accuracy, puck control, hand-eye coordination and techniques needed to improve speed, quickness and overall skating agility. Through organized drills and games, each player will learn the key elements that will help them to develop and achieve success in their upcoming leagues. Along with on-ice instruction, campers will receive one hour of off-ice training daily. Campers also have the opportunity to tour the Carolina Hurricanes official practice facility locker room. 11 and Older: 8:30am-2:00pm ($435) Super Friday Game 9:45-10:45AM This session expands on the fundamentals taught to the younger group. Along with power skating, puck handling, passing and shooting, players will learn proper checking techniques. The checking techniques taught are crucial in reducing the risk of injury, maintaining position in the play and not receiving a penalty. In addition to overall individual development, the clinic will focus on team play, including offensive and defensive zone coverage. Campers will receive one hour of off-ice training daily. Campers also have the opportunity to tour the Carolina Hurricanes official practice facility locker room. Canes Goaltender Camp, 12:00-3:45 pm ($375) This camp will build a strong foundation for your rookie or veteran goaltender by focusing on the technical, physical and mental skills needed to take his or her game to a more consistent and confident level. The staff incorporates the newest ideas in goaltending with time-tested fundamentals to improve the goaltenders skating, movement, stance, balance, positioning and overall understanding of the game. Specific saves will be covered, with an emphasis on the use of the goaltender’s stick, pads and body. There will also be a focus on breakaways, with age specific puck handling skills included, and puck tracking, using special props to simulate screened shots and deflections. As well as learning individual skills, players will partake in team building exercises that will be used to improve each goaltender’s ability to be a leader both on and off the ice. In addition to the on-ice training, goaltenders will participate in office sessions, which include video and classroom tutorials, as well as dry land training. Squirt & Pee-wee (9-12 years old): 8:00am-1:15pm Super Friday Game 8:30-9:30AM ($450) The elite program focuses on power skating and skill development at a higher level. A combination of high speed puck control, passing, scoring and power skating will be covered throughout the week. Each player will also learn checking techniques. This portion of the camp is crucial to the reduction of injury because each player will learn how to properly deliver and receive body checks. This tutorial also teaches players how to give and receive a body check while maintaining position in the play and without receiving a penalty. Every drill is practiced at optimum speeds and is intended to grow each individual’s ability. Along with individual skills, players will learn offensive/defensive zone strategies and fore checking/back checking strategies within a team setting. In addition to teaching the physical skills of the game, the camp will concentrate on the mental skills necessary to play at a high level. **Players attending this camp should currently be playing travel hockey. Camp staff will encourage registrants to sign up for the camp that is best suited for their skill level and overall development.** Girls U14: 8:45am-2:15pm WEEK TWO AUGUST 8-12: Hurricanes Elite Training Camp and Girls Camp This camp is designed to emulate the rigorous atmosphere of an NHL Training Camp.
