6th International Conference on Transcranial Brain Stimulation
Welcome Note of the Conference Chairs
Dear colleagues,
On behalf of the programme committee, we cordially invite you to join the “6th International
Conference on Non-invasive Brain Stimulation“ that will take place from 7–10 September
2016 in Göttingen.
After the success of the first three meetings in Göttingen, the fourth in Rome and the fifth
in Leipzig, we are happy to host the sixth meeting again here in Göttingen. Non-invasive
brain stimulation techniques have proven their potential to modulate brain activity in both
healthy subjects and patients with neurological or psychiatric diseases.
Recent multimodal approaches combining non-invasive brain stimulation with neuroimaging methods have greatly stimulated research in the field of neuroimaging and are
continuously providing novel insights into the functional relevance and plasticity of brain
networks. We will address the continuous need to bring together knowledge from basic
neurophysiological science with clinical demands to further advance the field.
We are thus looking forward to your participation and active contribution at exciting
times of transcranial stimulation.
Looking forward to see you here in Göttingen!

Welcome Note of the Lord Major of Göttingen
Alle Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer
der 6. Internationalen Konferenz für Transkraniale Gehirnstimulation heiße ich herzlich
in Göttingen willkommen.

6th International Conference on Transcranial Brain Stimulation
Welcome Note of the Dean of the University Medical Center Göttingen
I welcome you to the 6th International Conference on Transcranial Brain Stimulation. This
meeting was first organized in Göttingen in 1998; since then, it has seen an increasing number
of participants from all over the world – a great demonstration of the importance of this
branch of research. During this year’s meeting, the University of Göttingen and the University
Medical Center Göttingen are hosting participants from over 40 countries, coming together
to share and exchange views and discuss the latest developments. To this end, we gladly
provide the facilities for this conference.
Transcranial stimulation has been applied for more than 200 years, both in basic science and
in the therapeutic application for diseases like stroke, depression, chronic pain, and epilepsy:
disorders that cause much emotional harm and personal suffering. I encourage you to share
new concepts in basic physiology, in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases,
and in innovations that may help us to establish new therapies.
You are at an ideal location for a neuroscience meeting. Since your first meeting 18 years
ago, Göttingen has been at the forefront of neuroscientific research and is highly visible
with our Center for Nanoscale Microscopy and Molecular Physiology of the Brain, one of
Germany’s clusters of Excellence. Close collaborations and networks shape the campus and
research life in Göttingen. One of the most important is the network between basic research,
represented amongst others by the Max Planck Institutes and the University Medical Center
(UMG): our motto ‘from bench to bedside’ guides research and discussion, and the translation from research to patient care promotes the areas of ‘integrated research and treatment
centres’. The UMG has been especially strong in laying foundations in basic research, and it
also pleases me to see that our strength in TMS and tDCS research is engaged in applicational
research and is benefitting patients.
I would like to thank Prof. Paulus and his team for hosting this meeting and wish them much
success for their ongoing contributions to the future of Göttingen neuroscience in an international setting. And I wish you all, who attend this conference, many a lively and fruitful
debate, new acquaintances and an enjoyable stay here in Göttingen!
Prof. Dr. Heyo K. Kroemer
Chairman of the UMG Managing Board, Dean of the Medical School

Networking Party
„In the end it is always our relationships with people that make our lives worth living.”
(Wilhelm von Humboldt).
Enjoy a familiar gathering with colleagues and friends, have casual conversations and get
to know each other even better: socialize and extend your network! Decide for yourself if you want to enjoy your dinner seated or at a bar table. The various dishes give
you the chance to switch in between. Christoph Steinbach & his Boogie Boosters, also
known as Fingers Unlimited, will accompany the evening and maybe even encourage you
to dance... We are delighted to present this exceptional evening and cordially invite you
to join us! After all that brain work, you deserve it!
