will host the Best Ranger Competition Oct.
22 through 24. Top four finishers will represent Fort Bliss at the David E. Grange
Ranger Competition at Fort Benning, Ga.

Funded Legal Education Program:
Apply for the 2013 Judge Advocate General’s Funded Legal Education Program. Every
year the Army pays for up to 25 active duty
commissioned officers to attend law school.
This program is open to commissioned officers in the rank of second lieutenant through
captain. Applicants must have at least two,
but not more than six, years of total active
federal service at the time the legal training
begins. The application deadline is Nov.
1. Applicants must send their application
through command channels, to include the
officer’s branch manager at AHRC, with a
copy furnished to the Office of the Judge

MWR Through the Years exhibit:
Take a walk down memory lane with Fort
Bliss Family and MWR. The Old Fort Bliss
Replica currently hosts the “MWR Through
the Years: Setting the Standard for Excellence” exhibit. The exhibit features photos
and memorabilia from the Anna Johnelle
Crimen collection, and other historic pieces
from the rich Fort Bliss Family and MWR history. The exhibit is only available for a short
time! Stop in before Oct. 18 to view and
relive Fort Bliss Family and MWR memories

Massacre on Marshall Road Haunted House: The Massacre on Marshall
Road Haunted House is coming to the Trading Post on West Fort Bliss! The Massacre
on Marshall Road will be open on the following nights: Oct. 16 and 17, 7 to 10
p.m.; Oct. 18 and 19, 7 p.m.-midnight;
Oct. 21 through 24, 7 to 10 p.m.; Oct. 26,
7 p.m. to midnight; Oct. 27 through 30, 7
to 10 p.m.; Oct. 31, 7 p.m. to midnight.

to enrich the lives of single parents. The program is open to active-duty military, DoD/
DA civilians and dual-military families who
are in a single-parent situation due to TDY,
deployment, separate duty stations or other

Tower Day: Reach new heights during Tower Day at Biggs Park! Purchase a
morning or afternoon ticket for just $6 per
person, and enjoy a morning or afternoon
ticket for unlimited use of the tower Nov. 2
and Dec. 7. Tower Days run from 10 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m. The Tango Tower is a 50-foot
tall, six-sided structure with over 20 different high elements, giving participants a
multitude of choices. Tower Day is open to
climbers ages 6 and older; no reservations

Spouse employment orientation: Are
you a military spouse looking for employment? Attend the Employment Orientation
at Army Community Service. The orientation will take approximately 1.5 hours and

Bliss Child, Youth and School Services seeks
child care providers to work from home as
part of the Family Child Care program.
FCC providers can earn $26,000-$40,000
per year. Earn income while staying home
and develop a long-lasting, portable career. FCC training and experience are
transferable to other installations and CYSS
programs. Take advantage of opportunities for professional growth. FCC providers
are supported by the FCC program in attaining their child development associate
(CDA) credential and National Association
for Family Child Care (NAFCC) accreditation. You can also earn monetary subsidies
linked to types of care offered while you receive support from Child, Youth and School

ALR unit funds: Active-duty units and mobilized Guard and Reserve units deployed
in support of Operation Enduring Freedom
(Afghanistan) or Operation Iraqi Freedom
(Iraq), or troops deployed to Haiti and in
support of homeland security while serving
in remote areas, are authorized unit funds
through the Army Level Requirements (ALR)
Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation
unit fund program. Units will receive $2 per
Soldier per month beginning the month of

Haunted house and movie night:
The Fort Bliss YouthPlex will host its annual
KLAQ Haunted House and movie night from
6 to 11 p.m. Saturday. The event is open to
the first 100 CYSS-registered sixth- through
12th-graders to sign up. Youth will meet at
the YouthPlex, then head out for a spooky
night of fun. The YouthPlex is located at 195
Chaffee Rd. 568-5437.
Teen Book Club: Do you have a teen who
loves to read? Mickelsen Library has just
the club for them! Starting at 4:30 p.m. on
the first Thursday of every month, teens will
head on over to the purple couch, nibble on
snacks and share their thoughts about the
various books read and how they played
into the month’s theme. The book club is
free and open to all teenage participants.

Cheerleading with SKIES: SKIESUnlimited offers co-ed recreational and competition cheerleading for young athletes.
Beginner cheer is available for children
ages 4 and older, and intermediate cheer
is offered for children ages 8 and older.
Competition cheer is offered to children
ages 5 and older. Cheer students learn the
basic fundamentals of cheerleading: motions, jumps, tumbling, stunts and cheers.
Competition cheer students learn intricate
cheer routines as well as dance choreography, which includes complex floor skills,
jumps and challenging stunts to perform at

Trunk or Treat at the Rod and Gun
Club: The Fort Bliss Rod and Gun Club will
host its annual Trunk or Treat event Oct. 18
Enjoy fun, free trick-or-treating from 6:30
to 9 p.m. Decorate your car trunk, stock it
with candy and head to the Rod and Gun
Club for a night of family fun. Put the kids
in their costumes and bring them along for
trick-or-treating. There will be prizes for the
best-decorated trunk and prizes for the best
kids’ costumes in age categories including
3 years and under, 4 to 10, and 11 to 15.
There will be music and face painting, and
food and beverage available for purchase.

Harvest Festival: Join the Milam Youth
Activity Center from 2 to 6 p.m. Oct. 19
for face painting, cupcake decorating and
a spooky haunted house! This event is free

Monster Bash: Celebrate Halloween with
ghoulish family fun at Monster Bash, the area’s biggest and best Halloween party. This
year, Monster Bash is set for 5 to 9 p.m.
Oct. 25 at Biggs Park. We’ve got haunted
houses in three scare levels – barley scary,
pretty scary and very scary. While you’re
dodging ghosts and getting your scare
on, enjoy games and crafts presented by
Fort Bliss family readiness groups to raise
money for their unit funds. There will be free
carnival rides, a DJ, dancing and entertainment. Food and beverage vendors will be
on hand to tame your beastly hunger. Biggs

Haunted Pumpkin Patch: Enjoy a
spooky good time at the Haunted Pumpkin
Patch! From 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 26, head to
Old Fort Bliss for Halloween fun. The pumpkin patch opens at 5 p.m., and the ghost
stories begin at 6:30 p.m. Decorate pumpkins, available in exchange for donations
to the museum, on a first-come, first-served
basis. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and
cozy up by the fire pit, where there will be
ghost stories for the kids. There will be face
painting, food and beverages available for
