WINNER’S CIRCLE
Employees go above and beyond
Meredith McLean,
Family and MWR Marketing
Each quarter, Family and MWR holds the Winner’s Circle award ceremony to
recognize employees who have gone above and beyond to provide excellent service
for the Soldiers, families, retirees and civilians
we serve. Winner’s Circle is a directorate-level incentive
awards program primarily designed to recognize outstanding MWR
customer service and teamwork by Family and MWR staff
members. Each quarter, staff members are nominated by
CIRCLE
their peers, patrons of Family and MWR or outside agencies, or are identified by name in an ICE comment.
MWR
The MWR
team is full of stars,
but some shine
especially bright.
Born in Wolfsburg,
G e r m a n y, U r s u l a
Morawietz, Assistant
Fitness Director, is
one such star. When
you step into her
office and see her
accomplishments
adorning the walls, it becomes very evident.
After accompanying her husband Bert
on a tour to Fort Bliss with the German Air Force
in the 60’s, the Morawietz’s found themselves
back at Fort Bliss in 1982. It was on a routine
shopping trip to Juarez, Mexico that helped
earn Ursula one of her biggest accomplishments. After getting lost and ending up in the
garbage dumping area, she was shocked by
the poverty when she saw many children eating from the garbage. It was at that moment that
she decided to enlist the help of fellow German
Air Force families in starting the Helping Hands
Charity. Helping Hands is still helping children
today. The work she put into this charity won her
one of the highest achievement awards from the
German government – Das Verdienstkreuz (the
Merit Cross).
After returning to make El Paso their
permanent home in 1998, Ursula started teaching group fitness classes for the German Air
Force. Her aptitude for teaching group fitness
started drawing more and more Americans in to
her classes. In 2005 one of the Americans – Dr.
Doug Briggs, Director of Human Performance,
asked her to start teaching for him through
MWR. “Ursula is a huge asset to MWR because
of her wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm for
the job” says Briggs. After teaching as a volunteer instructor for 7 years, Ursula finally got a
permanent position at MWR and has continued
to share her gifts with us.
She has won numerous awards from all
of the sports that she has participated in including gymnastics, track and field, volleyball, and
tennis. She also has many fitness certifications.
You can find her teaching group fitness classes
at Fort Bliss along with coordinating the Civilian
Fitness Program for Dr. Briggs. Keep an eye
out for this wonderful employee and all of the
energy she brings to MWR.

CUSTOMER SERVICE
Cathie Garner,
Customer Service Program Coordinator
Service members are the military’s
most important resource. Trained, fit, and determined, ready to defend our country at any
cost. For that, Family and MWR says “thank
you”. But we also realize that a Service
Member is more than just a man or woman
who serves in the military. They are fathers,
mothers, sons and daughters. They are family.
They are our friends.
Military life encourages us to support
one another, and one of the most valuable assets a Service Member can have is a strong
support system. Family and MWR is an interconnected network of facilities and people
committed to providing quality through service excellence commensurate with the quality of service our military provides for our
Nation. We will continue to provide the ultimate customer service experience to support

the multifaceted lives of our Service members
and their families.
Our mission is to support the military’s mission by doing all that we can to
meet the many needs of our Service Members and their Families, civilians and military
retirees. We consider it an honor and privilege to provide quality assistance and leisure
services that enhance their lives. We continue

childcare, travel, entertainment and leisure activities with a smile. You will always receive a
prompt and friendly greeting in a professional

Excellent customer service will always touch the lives of our Service Members.
That will always be at the forefront of our
mission. Thank you for allowing us to serve
you.
Spring 2014 | 21
The Month of April offers a special opportunity to acknowledge and honor the service
of our littlest heroes, our military children. Established by Defense Secretary Caspar
Weinberger in 1986, the Month of the Military Child (MOMC) recognizes the important role
military children play in our communities. When asked what the Month of the Military Child is
all about, Ann Ogle. CYSS Director of Replica CDC summed it up this way:
Sometimes it is easy to overlook the sacrifice that military children make.
Like any other child, the role they play in supporting their parent’s work - in
this case “duty” - goes unnoticed. April and the MOMC gives us a chance
to pay special attention to them and direct attention to the many ways they
actually support the mission despite being young. We take time to have
celebrations and engage in special activities with them - to do and say
things in direct ways that point out their contribution.
Military children live with perpetual
challenges presented by frequent moves,
parental deployments, and life transitions
including reintegration and dealing with profoundly changed parents. In their own way,
military children serve alongside their military
parents.
We pause each year to honor the
nearly two million military children for their
contributions to their families’ well-being and
their sacrifices in support of their moms and
dads serving our nation. We ask much of
military children. After more than a decade of
war, the well-being of all military children and
youth depends heavily on a strong, supportive community. A wide variety of activities and
events are organized to recognize military
children and youth for their heroism, character, courage, sacrifices and continued resil22 | Spring 2014
ience. This year’s theme, “Young Lives, Big
Stories,” highlights military children’s unique
lifestyle and their ability to succeed despite
their ever-changing world.
As we celebrate our military children this April, we want to acknowledge
how strong military youth are and focus on
supporting them through the struggles they
encounter. These kids are our future. A big
thanks to Secretary Weinberger for bringing
this awareness through the proclamation so
many years ago. Now it is up to all of us to
make sure we keep our military youth safe,
loved and celebrated – not only in April but
always. You can make a difference in the life
of a military child by recognizing their contributions to the nation. Seek out opportunities
to acknowledge their sacrifice by volunteering for organizations that support them.

HEALTHY FUN
Most people do not associate bowling with health or fitness, however, along
with its great fun, bowling includes healthy rewards.
Jannette Caswell, Desert Strike Lanes
Bowling for a healthy way of life
is not what usually comes to mind when
contemplating a visit to the bowling center. According to The Bowling Foundation, more than twenty-five percent of
Americans bowl each year, making it the
nation’s largest participation sport. Besides being a fun and competitive game,
bowling also offers you numerous health
benefits.
“Bowling is good exercise because the sport provides an excellent
muscle workout,” said Don Aguilar,
Manager of Desert Strike Lanes. “This
aids in losing weight, boosting energy,
and combating disease and health conditions.” Although the game is restricted to
a small area, constant movement while
playing helps burn excess fat by speeding
up one’s metabolism. The body and arms
also receive a weight-based workout. By
swinging the bowling ball, the repeated
flexing, bending, twisting and stretching that occurs tones the shoulders, arms,
chest and leg muscles.
Bowling not only contributes
to a physically fit lifestyle, but it can be
mentally challenging at the same time. If
bowling in a league as opposed to bowling for fun, one can gain positive psychological benefits required for a mentally healthy lifestyle. Combining social
interaction with the physical aspects of
bowling creates a real stress reliever and
chance to laugh with other players, in turn
reducing stress.
It’s obvious that bowling is not
the appropriate workout to prepare for

BURGERS
At Samuel Adams Pub
Candice Boston, Family and MWR Marketing Americans eat nearly 50 billion burgers a year; that’s an
average of three per week. Even though we may celebrate burgers year-round, the month of May has been dedicated National
Hamburger Month. Hooray for arbitrary food holidays! With the
ability to be enjoyed in an endless number of ways, not many
people need an excuse to eat a burger, but if you do, let May be
the reason you reacquaint yourself with an American favorite.
At the Samuel Adams Pub, the menu features a wide variety of tasty traditional Pub food, but in honor of National Burger
Month, the Samuel Adam’s Pub welcomes burger lovers everywhere (looking for a bit of adventure sandwiched by a bun) to
try one of their tantalizing treats. “We take pride in our burgers,”
said Tianna Bowden, the Food and Beverage Program Manager
at Samuel Adams Pub. “We are taking the burger to new heights
of burger bliss.” While the quintessential burger typically means
beef, non-beef-eaters aren’t left out; their Veggie Burger is just
as tasty as the rest. So put down your forks, roll up those sleeves
and grab a few napkins— these burgers are wickedly good.
The Samuel Adams Pub is located inside the Centennial,

LADIES, GET A GRIP
George V. Underwood Jr. Golf Complex offers a ladies league for those who enjoy an easy-going,
no pressure approach to the game of golf.
Candice Boston,
Family and MWR Marketing
There is no better way to get out
and enjoy the Southwest’s warm climate than with a round of golf with a great
group of ladies. The Fort Bliss Women’s
Golf Group at George V. Underwood Jr.
Golf Complex is a group of women who
play weekly, enjoy friendly competition
and the opportunity to golf regularly. As
a member, you get standing tee times, a
chance to make new friends and improve
your game. You don’t have to be a great
golfer, nor have a handicap to join – you
can establish one with the computerized
handicapping service provided by Underwood.
This ladies-only league is a group
of friendly women who play 18 holes together every Tuesday morning from the
beginning of February throughout November. Tee times range from approximately 8:00 a.m. in the warmer months
to 9:00 a.m. in the cooler months and you
are almost always done by noon. There
are generally 20 to 25 players on any given Tuesday. Many stay for lunch and
take advantage of the full-service menu
at the Golden Tee restaurant inside the
Underwood clubhouse. “The social atmosphere and being outside to enjoy the
game of golf is the highlight of my every
Tuesday,” said Norene Ewing, a ten-year
member and the president of the Fort
Bliss Women’s Golf Group.
A variety of games are scheduled
throughout the season so that everyone,
regardless of one’s USGA handicap, has
the opportunity to enjoy friendly competition. The group also organizes several
major tournaments each year, to include
30 | Spring 2014
the Club Championship in September, to
provide a more competitive opportunity
for those who enjoy a challenging format. Members can even ‘Play for Ace’
every first Tuesday. This is essentially a
tournament within a tournament where
net winners advance to the Ace of Aces
Tournament in November. Each month,
members of the group travel to play courses in the El Paso area. “We have a great
group of ladies that love to play golf and
have fun. Visiting other courses is a great
opportunity to meet players alike,” said
Ewing. The main goal of the group is to
have fun, get to know other women golfers, and improve our knowledge and
skills on the golf course.
The Fort Bliss Women’s Golf
Group is a formal organization with a
President, Tournament Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and several other offices
for special events. With membership dues
set at $60 per year, the group is made up
of members of all skill levels and a great

EGG HUNT
Who says egg hunts have to happen during the day? The Rod and Gun Club is shaking things up by
adding a twist on the traditional Easter egg hunt.
Candice Boston, Family and MWR Marketing
You haven’t lived until you’ve hunted glow-in-the-dark
Easter eggs, so grab a basket and head down to the Rod and Gun
Club for the time-honored tradition of hunting eggs this Easter
Holiday. Back by popular demand is the night time egg hunt,
but this year they have added a twist... and a turn. It’s a maze!
Bring a flashlight if you must, but this year’s eggs will glow in
the dark.
“This year we decided to spice things up by incorporating a maze to the egg hunt” said Melinda McWeeny, the event’s
organizer. At sundown, participants will take turns winding
themselves through the maze in search of brightly colored eggs.
They won’t have to rely entirely on their flashlights, either. This
year’s egg assortment is not only filled with treats and great
prizes; they also glow-in-the-dark.
There are hundreds of eggs to be found, but a limit has
been set on how many one can keep. “It is important to us that
even the younger hunters have a fair shot at collecting eggs
while still making the event exciting for the older participants,”
McWeeny added. “Some eggs will contain tickets that are redemable for prizes much too large to fit inside plastic eggs.”
Kids of all ages will delight in the fun of searching
through the maze discovering dozens of brightly illuminated
Easter eggs. This family friendly event also features an egg dyeing station, crafts, games, movies, and more.
The fun will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 11 at

As the days grow longer and the
desert begins to come alive, many of us
start seeking entertainment in the great
outdoors. There is no better time to join
Outdoor Recreation on some of the many
trips they offer.
“What’s nice about going on adventures with Outdoor Recreation is that
we provide just about everything that is
needed for each adventure” says Joe Fedak, Outdoor Recreation Chief. “All you
have to do is bring a good attitude, food
and water, and wear comfortable clothes
– we will take care of the rest.”
The most coveted trip on the
spring calendar is the Ultimate Summer
Expedition, which is four days packed
with rafting, camping, climbing, and
ziplining in Salida, Colorado. This trip is
scheduled for May 23-26 and is non-stop
outdoor fun.
If you are interested in having fun
a little closer to home Family Camping at
White Sands, NM might interest you. This
trip is scheduled for April 12-13, May 1718 and June 14-15 and involves camping,
biking, star gazing, and lots of fun. It is a
trip that the whole family will enjoy.
If getting out on the water is more
your thing, June is the time to take a dip
in the Rio Grande River. Outdoor Recreation will take two trips in June to the Rio
Grande. The first will be the River Float
and Festival on June 14. Participants will
enjoy floating and partaking in a festival
in Las Cruces, N.M. Tube the Rio Grande

TRAIN THE TRAINER

Fort Bliss Sports, Fitness and

their Combat Water Survival: Train the
Trainer course. This course is intended

course at the unit level. It will help them
determine the water survival ability level
of their soldiers and give them the necessary knowledge to train their soldiers to
survive in the water.
Senior leaders will learn how to
teach soldiers to maintain buoyancy in
full gear, swim 15 yards underwater, assist
other swimmers in the water, use personal
safety and water survival techniques, and
swim the travel stroke, breaststroke, and
sidestroke. The water poses different and
potentially dangerous situations that require soldiers to have knowledge of water
survival techniques.
A minimum of five participants
are needed to reserve a class, but no more
than 10 participants can be enrolled in
each class. Classes are scheduled based
on the convenience of the unit. “This class
has been very popular” says Stephanie
McGruder, Aquatic Manager. “It is a very
useful class because it allows unit leadership to develop their skills and those of
their unit.” Upon completion of the class,
which is conducted in accordance with
TC21-21 Water Survival Training, participants will be certified to conduct their
own water survival training class. For

With the dog days of summer upon us, high
temperatures can take their toll on people, animals
and even cars. Extreme heat can push a vehicle past
its limits, and some drivers will find themselves
stranded on the roadside.
Fortunately, preparing your car for the harshest season at Fort Bliss is cheap and easy with the
help of Auto Crafts. They can help keep your car on
the road for many seasons to come. Auto Crafts offers a full list of services to help keep you on the road
from brake replacement and oil changes to bumper to
bumper safety checks and state inspections.
Something that can really help you out in the summer months is their
air-conditioning recharge and repair service. This is a new service being offered
that will not only make it more comfortable for you to drive during the summer
months, but can also save you money by finding leaks before the damage spreads
throughout your car.

USING
GRAVITY
To Your Advantage
Meredith McLean,
Family and MWR Marketing
Glide your way to a total body workout with Fort Bliss Sports, Fitness and
Aquatics. “Gravity class is a great workout for people of all fitness levels” says
Holly Imbriaco, Group Fitness Director.
“It allows people to complement their
free-weight routines while improving
form without the high fear of injury.”
In gravity class participants will
burn fat and define muscle by using their
body weight against gravity. Gravity
class takes place on Tuesday, Thursday,
and Friday from 9-10 a.m. and Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday from 5-6 p.m. in
Milam PFC on Total Gym GRAVITY
machines. Each class has a maximum of
14 people due to the amount of machines
available. “Gravity class is a very unique
class” says Mike Lind, Fort Bliss Personal Trainer. “The instructors are able
to give more personal attention to each
participant giving the class the feeling of
a one-on-one training session while still
having the comradery of the group environment.” Another aspect of the class
that makes it more personalized is the
adjustability of the machines. Each machine has the capability of adjusting up
and down to accommodate individuals
38 | Spring 2014
of different heights and different fitness
levels. The steeper the incline of the machine, the higher the percentage of body
weight the participant will use against
gravity, making their workout more difficult.
The gravity machines are designed to
be used to target several muscle groups in
a short amount of time. “I enjoy gravity
class because we focus on different areas
each class” says Bertha Castellanos, class
participant. Another participant, Catherine Sisk, enjoys the class because “you
can tailor it to your individual needs” she
says. “You can make it as easy or as hard
as you want; you really do get out what
you put into the class.”
In addition to
the regular gravity
class, Gravity Pilates is also offered
through Fort Bliss’
Fitness department.
This class is designed to connect
mind and body like
a regular pilates
class, but with the
added benefit of tailoring the workout
to each individual’s
flexibility level. “Doing pilates on the
Gravity machines allows participants a
safer way to workout. It also allows them
to adjust the intensity of the workout depending on their individual wishes” says
Ursula Morawietz, Assistant Fitness Director. “The machines make it easy to
teach students of all different comfort
levels – from beginner to expert – in the
same class without some feeling like they
aren’t keeping up.” Gravity Pilates is
held from 10:15-11:15 a.m. on Mondays
at Milam PFC.
Milam PFC is located at 2499 Cassidy Road. For class schedules or for more

Every parent dreams of free, reliable child care, but the baby-sitter down

KID POWER
Self-defense classes that teach youth how to identify unsafe environments and how to immediately
remove or deal with the situation. Youth also learn how to find help in times of emergency.
Candice Boston,
Family and MWR Marketing
We have all seen it in movies at
least 100 times: A young female walks
through an isolated parking lot late one
evening, all alone. Suddenly, a masked
man jumps out from behind a vehicle
threatening her with a knife. The young
lady bashes the man over the head with
her purse and punches him in the stomach. Either way, while he’s squirming
on the ground, she leaps into her car and
speeds to safety.
Well, that’s Hollywood and nine
times out of ten, real life situations don’t
happen that way. Especially for those who
have not had a self-defense class. Many
people think of self-defense as only a
physical response but self-defense actually means doing everything possible to
avoid physical confrontation with someone who threatens to attack you. It is all
about using your smarts — not your fists.
The best way to prepare yourself to fight off an attacker is to take a
self-defense class. On the third Saturday of every month, you can do just that.
SKIESUnlimited is offering Personal
Protection Classes to help teach youth
how to size up a situation and decide
the best course of action. “One of the
best things people take away from selfdefense classes is self-confidence,” said
Marcy Shoberg, SKIES Instructor. “It’s
much easier to take action in an emergency if you’ve already had a few dry runs.”
Each class includes training in awareness,
boundary setting, using appropriate verbal
response and body language to deter an
attacker without escalating the situation,
and physical response if, and only if, absolutely necessary to preserve personal
safety.
The Personal Protection Class
gives you a chance to learn self-defense
techniques to surprise your attacker and
catch him or her off guard. If you take a
class with a friend, you can continue practicing on each other to keep the moves
fresh in your mind long after the class is
over. If you are interested in taking the
class, please call our SKIESUnlimited
team today for more information at (915)
569-7732 or 568-5195. Class registration is open now until one day before the
start of each class. All students must be
enrolled with CYSS Parent Central Services. For an appointment, call (915) 5684374. To view more of what SKIES has to
offer, visit blissmwr.com/skies. If you are

AMERICA’S ARMED FORCES
KIDS RUN 2014
World’s largest kids running event
Candice Boston,
Family and MWR Marketing
Often overshadowed by holidays such as Memorial
Day and Veterans Day, Armed Forces Day often slips under
the radar. Since its creation on the 20th of February 1950,
Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday of
May each year. This day salutes all the men and women
in every branch of service-who train diligently and can be
called upon at a moment’s notice to risk their lives for their
country.
42 | Spring 2014
On Saturday, May 17th, the 12th Annual America’s
Armed Forces Kids Run will provide thousands of military
dependent children the opportunity to participate in a run
that will take place on 178 installations worldwide. It began
in 1986 with 3,800 children participating in the first run in
Spokane, Washington. Since then, hundreds of thousands
of children have enjoyed the run and in 2002, the decision
was made to offer it to Military Bases and dependents.
The run has been recognized nationally in National
Geographic World, National Road Runners Management,
Runner World, USA Today, and voted Best Children’s Run
by Runner World May 2003. “The kids run is to honor the
children of service members,” said Laura Gillette, Youth
Sports Program Director. “It is important that families find
productive activities that they can participate in together.”
Parents are welcome to join their children in the run.
Predetermined distances have been set based on the child’s
age; age 5-6: half mile, ages 7-8: 1 mile, and ages 9-13: 2
miles.
This years’ run will start at 8 a.m. from the Old Fort
Bliss Replica located at 5054 Pershing Road, at the intersection
with Pleasonton. Participants can begin checking in at 7:30
a.m. The first 125 runners will receive a participation t-shirt.
Runners must be at least 5 years of age to participate. For

10th ANNUAL
McCASA WALK
A Day of Fun and Awareness
Each April since 1986, the Department of Defense has recognized the big sacrifices that the smallest
members of the military community have made on behalf of their parents and the nation.
Meredith McLean,
Family and MWR Marketing
Lace up your walking shoes
and get ready to pound the pavement
for the 10th Annual McCASA walk
hosted by the Family Advocacy Program of Fort Bliss Army Community
Service. The walk is a campaign to
raise awareness about child abuse,
sexual assault and neglect while celebrating the Month of the Military
Child.
The 10th Annual McCASA
walk kicks off on April 12 at 10 a.m.
in Kelly Park and is a fun event for
the whole family. There will be an
essay contest, food, fun, games, and
music for all to enjoy.
“We are really excited to
celebrate the 10th anniversary of the
McCASA walk this year” says Lana
Johnson, New Parent Support Lead
Home Visitor. “Bringing awareness
to these topics is very important and
it is also important to celebrate military children, because they should be
an inspiration to everyone in how to
be resilient.”
In addition to the McCASA
walk, the Family Advocacy Program offers many life skills classes
throughout the year to help individu

als and families in all different situations become more resilient. They
hold self- improvement classes on
the topics of stress management, anger management, and how to be an
effective single soldier. They have
classes to improve relationships and
marriages such as The 8 Habits of a
Successful Marriage, Relationship
101, Couples Communication, and
Scream Free Marriage. They also
have classes on parenting, which include Trans-Parenting, Co-Parenting
(Coping with Divorce), Scream Free
School Age/Teen Parenting, Scream
Free Early Childhood Parenting,
Baby Boot Camp, and School Age/
Teen Parenting.

MONEY
SMART WEEK
Meredith McLean,
Family and MWR Marketing
Increase your financial literacy
during Money Smart Week at Army Community Service. Money Smart Week is
a national initiative aimed at exercising
financial fitness by participating in programs that promote financial security.
Money Smart Week El Paso will take
place April 5-12 and is a collaboration of
local organizations including businesses,
schools, financial institutions, government
agencies, and not-for-profits. “Once a year
all of these organizations come together to
help consumers understand how to manage their personal finances through free
educational seminars and activities, which
cover all facets of personal finance” says
Ana Hernandez, Financial Readiness Program Manager. “Topics covered range
from budgeting to home buying and
communityACS
estate planning.”
The ACS Financial Readiness
Program will be teaching three classes
during this week. The first class is Planning and Budgeting. This class will teach
participants how to avoid living paycheck
to paycheck by planning the use of their
money ahead of time. In the second class –
Dinner on a Dime – participants will learn
how to prepare low-cost, high-quality
meals. The third class is Debt Management and will teach participants how to
live a cash-based lifestyle while working
with creditors to make plans to get their
debt paid off. “These classes can help empower everyone with the knowledge they
need to live a more financially responsible
lifestyle” says Hernandez. To learn more
about FRP, visit blissmwr.com/frp or call

Meredith McLean,

In observance of Memorial
Day, Army Community Service and
the Fort Bliss Garrison will team up
to pay respect to Fort Bliss Soldiers
who have made the ultimate sacrifice
in combat for our country within the
previous year. The Field of Honor Ceremony is a Garrison event organized
and hosted by Survivor Outreach Services at ACS. It will take place on May
30 at 10:30 a.m. at the George Ruhlan
Parade Field on the corner of Sheridan
Road and Cassidy Road.
The fallen soldiers will be
honored through the placement of
a name plate on the Wall of Honor.
Survivors of each soldier are invited
to take part in the ceremony alongside Fort Bliss and El Paso dignitar-
ies. The survivors are invited to go up
and speak in ceremonial tribute if they
desire. Ten Fort Bliss Soldiers will be
honored in this year’s ceremony. “It is
important for us to honor our fallen”
says Helen Barrientes, SOS Program
Coordinator. “They have given so
much to our country and it is important that we publicly recognize that.”

or any of the programs that SOS has
to offer visit blissmwr.com/sos or call,

RECOGNITION IS
RETENTION
Tephanie Hopper
Fort Bliss Army Volunteer Corps Manager
If you ask a volunteer, “Why do you volunteer?” some
will say to help others, others may say to gain job experience,
and some may even say that they volunteer to network. The
one answer that you will not get is that they volunteer for the
recognition. In most cases, those who volunteer are not volunteering because they want a certificate or plaque but they do
want some form of appreciation. Do not let volunteering be a
thankless job. The number one method for retaining volunteers
is to make sure they know that they are appreciated. Volunteers
who feel their contributions and time are not appreciated will
stop volunteering but few will ever reveal lack of recognition as
their reason for leaving. Recognizing volunteers is a vital part of
maintaining their interest and enthusiasm in your organization.
Some examples of recognition include:
• Saying, “Thank You”
• Taking them to lunch
• Asking for their opinions
• Giving them additional responsibilities and a new title
• Getting their picture in the paper for outstanding accomplishments
• Giving permission to go to a seminar, convention, or professional meeting at the organizations expense
There are numerous other ways to recognize volunteers. The Fort Bliss Army Volunteer Corps office is the headquarters for installation volunteer recognition and can assist
you in recognizing volunteers for your organization. Some of
Timeless Legacies is a
mobile photography studio. We will
come to any location. We also have
locations and events we attend.
