Put on your running shoes and participate in the annual German-American Oktoberfest Night Run Sept. 13 at Freedom Crossing, 1611 Haan Road on West Fort Bliss. The run is open to everyone and begins at 6 p.m. featuring an 8-K race and 5-K fun run/walk. Pre-race activities start at 4 p.m. and include the sale of German coffee, pastries, soft and spirited drinks, snow cones and more. After the race, stay to enjoy German bratwurst, beer, live music and entertainment. Children’s activities include a bounce house, games and the Freedom Crossing play areas. Participants have the option of running the 8-kilometer race or walking the 5-kilometer fun walk. Children can ride their bikes or scooters and moms bring out the jogging strollers. More than 1,000 people are expected to participate this year. The race includes individual and military unit team division 8k races. The top three military teams will win unit-fund donations. Early registration is under way and costs $20 per person and $25 late registration. Register online at active.com by 3 p.m. Sept. 12. Runners can also complete early registration at Soto and Stout physical fitness centers by 6 p.m. through Sept. 11 and at Freedom Crossing food court from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sept. 8 through 12. Late registration runs from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Freedom Crossing. Civilians are welcome on Post and may enter Fort Bliss by showing a U.S. Driver’s License or U.S. Government Issued ID at the Buffalo Soldier Gate (previously Robert E Lee Gate by El Paso International Airport) or Cassidy Gate (off HWY 54). Army Community Service offers instructor training courses, briefer training courses and facilitator training courses throughout the year. These courses are mandatory for all ACS staff and any volunteers who will be teaching or briefing. Training is open to all ACS employees and volunteers, and to anyone who would like to gain skills in teaching and briefing. Facilitator training courses are offered as a two-day session, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. each day. The next facilitator training course is set for Oct. 7-8.
