CALL FOR PAPERS AND REGISTRATIONS
About our Institute
Formed in 1903, this 112 years old Government institution has been a
premier institution in the field of Commerce and Management education in
India through its B.Com., M.Com. and M.B.A. courses. The college first started
its operation in 1905 as a separate Government institute under the name
Government Commercial Institute in the campus of the erstwhile Presidency
College. It was shifted to different places from 1907 to 1928 and then ultimately
in 1951 it was relocated at its current address at 210, Bepin Behari Ganguly
Street, Kolkata – 700012. The college was renamed as Goenka College of
Commerce and Business Administration in the year 1951.
Ranked consecutively as the No. 1 commerce college in West Bengal in
th
2014 and 2015 and holding the All India rank of 17 as per the ‘India Today
Survey ’, this college has been a pioneer in academics along with many other
activities including cultural, sports, social work, etc to provide for an all round
development of the students.
This co-educational institution has maintained a steady progress with the
march of time. Initially renowned for providing B.Com. education, the college
was granted permission for opening post graduate course in commerce by the
University of Calcutta in the year 2003 with academic autonomy as a mark of
excellence. Further, in 2010-11, the college became the first Government run
college in the state of West Bengal to introduce a two year professional MBA
course with the affiliation of the University of Calcutta and approval of the All
India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) at a very minimal cost. With the
introduction of this course, the college turned into an integrated campus of
higher learning running both general and professional courses at the same time
and was successful in providing justice to its name.
Introducing the Theme
George Bernard Shaw has said, “Progress is impossible without change,
and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.” We are in
a decade of changes. Changes are being made in Government, in technology
and in law. To sustain and grow in this fast changing business and legal
environment, all changes needs to be embraced.
The age old company law was replaced with Companies Act, 2013 to
provide better environment and improve governance. The whole taxation
structure in the country is set for a paradigm shift with major overhaul in both
direct and indirect tax laws. An Act to deal with black money stashed abroad has
also been enacted recently.
To escalate growth and move towards sustainability, change is a must and
to celebrate this change, let all of us gather in this one day National Seminar. We
welcome the stalwarts to contribute towards the change and the growth by
sharing knowledge through this platform.
