Does that sound Better at Home 12 13 SB6/Children First Post 14 Easter Eggstravaganza 14 unrealistic in Canada? It’s not. About 40% of Canadians have low literacy skills. Having low literacy does not mean that someone cannot read or write, but it could turn some simple daily tasks into tough chores. Next time you are driving around an unfamiliar community, or when you’re filling in forms, try to imagine how much more difficult those everyday tasks can become if you did not have adequate literacy skills. Increasing literacy skills does not just make day to day life easier, it can improve social and financial opportunities, and it can build confidence too. The good news is that it is never too late to learn! If you know someone who is struggling with their literacy skills, help can be as simple as a phone call away. Contact your local college, or literacy centre to learn more about adult learning opportunities.
