Based on the beloved children’s books by P.L. Travers and
the classic Disney film, the Broadway musical Mary Poppins
alights on The Legacy stage in a lavish new production!
The story of a mysterious nanny who magically appears at
the Banks household in turn-of-the-century London to care
for the children, but with a combination of magic and old
fashioned common sense, the entire household learns the
value of family, and that “anything can happen if you let it.”
Adventure abounds with dancing chimney sweeps, and an
array of colorful characters from both film and page, along
with the charming songs that have delighted generations:
“A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Chim Chim Cher-ee,” “Feed the
Birds,” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”
Performances: July 10-12, 15-19, 22-26
Principal rehearsals will begin in April.
Company rehearsals will begin in May.
Performers will be compensated.

Character Breakdown
MARY POPPINS: Jane and Michael Banks’s new nanny. Quite
extraordinary and a little odd, Mary Poppins is prim and proper and
neatly starched, and yet always seems to be on the verge of some
sort of marvelous madness. She says what she means, means what
she says, and is a curious balance of sternness and sweetness. Quite
simply, she is practically perfect in every way. English accent. Must
be comfortable with heights and stage flying. Mezzo soprano with
strong top notes; precision, diction and vocal warmth is the key.
Female, 20s-40s • Range: Gb3 - C6 • Audition song: “Spoonful of
Sugar”
BERT: A sidewalk artist, chimney sweep, and narrator of our story.
Bert is a good friend to Mary Poppins though we’re never sure of
their mysterious connection. A charming Cockney song-and-dance
man, Bert keeps a watchful eye on all the proceedings on Cherry Tree
Lane. Male, 20s – 40’s • Range: B2 - F#4 • Audition song:
“Chim-Chim-Cheree”
GEORGE BANKS: The father to Jane and Michael; a banker who
embraces “precision and order” in his household. His emotional
armor conceals a sensitive soul. Male, 40s-50s • Range: Bb2 - Eb4
• Audition songs: “Precision and Order”; “A Man Has Dreams”
WINIFRED BANKS: George’s wife and Jane and Michael’s mother.
A former actress and current suffragette, she is a loving and distracted homemaker who is busy trying to live up to her husband’s desire
to associate with “the best people” as well as her own desire to be a
model wife and mother. Female, 30s-50s yrs old • Range: A3 - D5 •
Audition song: “Being Mrs Banks”
JANE BANKS: The high-spirited daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Banks,
Jane is bright and precocious but can be willful and inclined to snobbishness. Female, must appear to be 10 yrs old • Range: A3 - F#5
Chosen from Youth Audition • Auditon song: “The Perfect Nanny”
MICHAEL BANKS: The cute and cheeky son of Mr. and Mrs. Banks.
He adores his father and tries to be like him. The children’s misbehavior is really just an attempt to get the attention of their parents.
Male, must appear to be 8 yrs old • Range: A3 - E5 • Unchanged
voice • Chosen from Youth Audition • Audition song: “The Perfect
Nanny”
KATIE NANNA: Jane and Michael’s stern, exasperated and soon to
be departing nanny. Female, 30s-50s yrs old
MISS ANDREW: George’s frightening nanny from his youth. With
her bottle of nasty-tasting brimstone and treacle to keep naughty
children in line, she is a bully who only knows one way of doing
things - her way. A soprano with an alto belt. Female, 30s-60s yrs old
• Range: Gb3 - F5 • Audition song: “Brimstone & Treacle”
MRS. BRILL: The housekeeper and cook for the Banks family.
Overworked and harassed, her intimidating exterior masks the
warmth underneath. Female, 50-60 yrs old • Range: F#3 - D#5
ROBERTSON AY*: The houseboy to the Banks family. He never
gets things quite right and believes himself to be useless; Mrs. Brill
would probably agree. His “Spoonful” antics are a fun surprise for
the audience. Male, 20-30 yrs old • Range: F3 - G#4
ADMIRAL BOOM / BANK CHAIRMAN*: Admiral Boom is a
retired Royal Navy man and neighbor of the Banks family. Physically
large, with a loud and booming voice, he speaks in Navy jargon.
The Bank Chairman is an Edwardian stuffed-shirt and Mr. Banks
employer. Male, 50-60 yrs old • Range: C3 - D4
MISS LARK* The haughty next-door neighbor of the Banks family
who treats her dog, Willoughby, as if he were her child.
Female, 30s-50s yrs old
MRS. CORRY:* Owns a magical gingerbread shop. A mysterious
woman of great wisdom. Female, 40-50 yrs old • Stong belt •
Audition song: Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
ANNIE and FANNIE:* Mrs. Corry’s mischevious, magical daughters.
Female, 20s – 40s • Alto, Soprano

of the households on his beat. Male, 30-50 yrs old

Tree Lane neighbourhood and other magical realms.
