SKRYLLE
Welcome to Skrylle!
Walks for every season
More than half a million people visit Skrylle and its
surroundings every year for outdoor recreation, exercise and the enjoyment of the countryside. The area
comprises some ten nature reserves and the Dalby
Söderskog National Park. Walking trails and paths
take visitors out into different types of forests and
cultural landscapes. Welcome to explore the area all
year round!
The Skrylle area offers many lovely nature trails and footpaths.
The longest trail of all, Skåneleden, goes through the area. The
jogging tracks at Skryllegården are also suitable for walking
and offer a dry surface all year round.
Dalby Söderskog National Park is criss-crossed by paths offering a fantastic spring flora during April and May.
Take a spring walk and a picnic in Billebjer Nature Reserve, and
enjoy the views over the Lundaslätten plain in the company of
a profusion of pasque flowers.
Skryllegården
A restaurant with café is open daily (046-585 02). Conference
facilities adjoin the restaurant. Changing rooms and sauna are
located by the gym. GPS hire is available for those who want to
explore the four kilometre geocaching trail. Jogging pushchairs
are also available for hire – ask in the reception (046-585 25).
Rögle Angling Centre
Rögle Angling Centre comprise five different ponds stocked
with rainbow trout and signal crayfish. There are also natural
stocks of pike, perch, the rare moderlieschen, and other fish
species.
The best display of autumnal
colour is found in the crowns
of the dwarf beeches in the
Gryteskog and Prästaskogen Nature Reserves, north
of Torna Hällestad. These
gnarled and twisted beeches
have given the area the name
“Troll Forest”.
In the surroundings you’ll find wind shelters and grilling areas
that can be booked via the reception, where you also can buy
firewood. Large groups can stay overnight in the Belsebo wind
shelter. Belsebo is also an educational resource for schools.
The shelter is equipped with pots and griddles for open-air
cooking, a forge for smithery and axes and knives for craftwork. The adventure instructors organise activities and teambuilding exercises at Skryllegården (070-6963510).
At Torna Hällestad you’ll find
the beautiful beech-clad ridges Prästamöllan and Borelundsåsen.
You can get to Skryllegården by bus. See Skånetrafiken’s time
table for bus numbers and departure times.
www.skryllegarden.se
Fly-fishing and spinning is permitted in all the ponds and angling is permitted in ponds 3, 4 and 5. Fishing is available from
March to November and the centre is open all days except for
Mondays. Fishing permits are required and can be purchased
from the fishing warden of the angling centre ”Rögle sportfiske” (046-587 53, 046-14 60 47). Here you can also get advice
for successful fishing.
Jogging tracks
Jogging (or skiing) tracks of various length start from Skrylle
gården’s fitness centre. Changing rooms, showers and sauna
are located next to the gym in Skryllegården.
Three of the tracks are illuminated; the longest is 5 kilometres.
A track adapted for disabled users is found south of Skryllegården.

Most of the forest is planted in recent times, but old broadleaved forest is found in e.g. Dalby Söderskog, Prästaskogen
and Knivsåsen. Gryteskog is home to a special form of beech
called dwarf beech. The trees are gnarled and twisted, with
umbrella-shaped crowns.
The spruce forest in the Skrylle area is gradually being replaced by deciduous forest. Broad-leaved beeches and oaks are
often planted with a screen of birches.
Dalby Söderskog has a 0.6 kilometre boardwalked circular trail
for wheelchair users. The planks may be slippery from
leaves or ice during periods. A wheelchair-adapted privy is located by the national park
entrance.
Dogs should always be kept on a lead. Regulations differ in the
nature reserves – see signs for respective area.
The nature reserves in Skrylle have both private and public
owners. They are managed by the County Administrative
Board or the technical services department, Lund Municipality www.lund.se/natur. Friluftsfrämjandet in Lund runs Skryllegården on behalf of the culture and recreation administration
www.skryllegarden.se. The Foundation for Recreational Areas
in Skåne owns parts of Skrylle Nature Reserve.

Naturum Skrylle is a visitor centre where you can learn about
plants, birds, insects and animals in the area, as well as the
cultural history and geology.
The naturum is a fun place for young and old alike, and a rich
source of knowledge for the inquisitive. It is open during daytime all year round. Here you’ll find brochures, magazines and
books for in-depth study.
During spring and autumn you’ll be
welcomed by expert nature guides
who will answer your questions and
guide you through the attraction in the
area. Guided tours can be booked by
school classes and groups. The seasonal programmes include special themes and activities for new and exciting
outdoor experiences.
A 50 metre long outdoor exhibition features animals and nature in the Skrylle
area. For example, you can touch and
feel 30 life-size animals, their tracks
and droppings. The exhibition is adapted for people with visual impairment, with MP3-players on
loan with narratives in English and Swedish. Two nature trails,
Mystigen and Ulastigen, start at the naturum.
There is a jetty adapted for
wheelchair users. The toilet
at the centre is also adapted for wheelchairs. The
angling centre has parking
for the disabled.
Management
The 1.2 kilometre trail for the
disabled south of Skryllegården is accessible for wheelchairs,
but assistance may be needed as the paths are gravelled.
Benches are found along the trail. Several of the jogging tracks
have smooth gravelled surfaces, but hills may be an obstacle.
Naturum
With luck, walkers may encounter roe deer, fallow deer or wild
boar in the area.
Dogs
Naturum Skrylle has a 50 metre long tactile trail with some 30
sculptures of forest animals and tracks. A rope helps people with
visual impairment to walk along 46 different stations.
N
The Skrylle area contains plants that thrive in the nutrientpoor soil on the ridge, but nutrient and lime favoured plants
such as bird-in-a-bush and yellow anemone can also be found
in Dalby Söderskog. A flora characterised by grazing thrives
in the old, outlying pastures, with species such as lousewort,
mountain everlasting and common milkwort. The best preserved pastures are found at Måryd and in the area between
Dalby and Torna Hällestad.
Access
One of the grilling areas at Skryllegården is easily reached by
wheelchair users. Skryllegården also has wheelchair-adapted
toilets.
6
The Skrylle area is located on the northwestern part of the Romeleåsen ridge. The
bedrock consists of gneiss and granite, but
also quartzite which is quarried north of Skryllegården. In the eastern part of the area there
are eskers, e.g. the Borelundsåsen and Knivsåsen
humpback eskers that were formed during the last ice age.
Northeast of Skryllegården is the highest point, Boks backe,
123 metres above sea level.
The Skåneleden trail makes a detour by way of a circular route around Skrylle. Suitable starting points are Skryllegården,
Torna Hällestad or Knivsåsen. The beautiful route, passing six
nature reserves, is approximately 15 kilometres long and takes
four hours to walk.
Early summer birdsong can be enjoyed everywhere in the area,
but for a special experience, walk through the beech forest
and out into the pastures on the humpback esker at Knivsåsen. Further on in the season, the walk can be combined with
dipping your toes in the crystal-clear water in the old stone
quarry.
Skryllegården and the Skrylle area is one of the most frequented recreational areas in Sweden. Skryllegården is a good starting point for visits to the area.
Nature, flora
& fauna
When winter approaches, it’s pleasant to enter the forest at
Skrylle and walk along the Ulastigen trail, which starts at the
naturum. The walk takes you through beech forest and out into
open pastureland at Skrölle Hills (Skrölle backar) and continues towards Ula Marsh (Ula kärr) and the quiet spruce forest.
The Myrstigen trail goes north from the naturum and passes
over Måryd’s forests and pastures. From the Måkullsbacken
hill you have magnificent views across the Vombsänkan valley.
The southern part of Skrylle Nature Reserve has a “tree walk”
with signs telling you about more than 50 different tree species
along the circular route. The “senses walk” is a short nature
trail starting from the parking area at Åkestorpsvägen.
In Skrylle dogs must be on a lead east of the road between
Dalby and Sandby. A track recommended for dog training is
found near the parking area along Billebjersvägen.
Riding
Riding is only permitted on marked bridleways. A circular route
is found on the old Rögle landfill site north of Rögle ponds.
Parking for horse trailers is also available. A bridleway starts
from Rögle landfill site, and goes via the road Förbindelsevägen, to the walking and bicycle lane, which runs parallel to the
road Dalby-Sandbyvägen. In the eastern part of the reserve, it
is possible to ride down towards the Hällestadsspåret track,
which leads to Revingefältet.
Welcome to
SKRYLLE
When riding on forest roads, please keep to the middle of the
road, to create as little damage as possible.
