Over the Edge Pre-teen Camp Frequently Asked Questions
1. Who do we make the checks out to? PLEASE MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO “OVER THE EDGE PRETEEN CAMP” FOR THE COST OF CAMP.
2. When is the total balance due? The balance for your church is due when you arrive the first day of camp.
3. Are deposits refundable? No, the deposit is not refundable for any reason.
4. When will we receive camp information and small group curriculum? You can download registration and
general camp information from www.pineywoodscamp.com/over-the-edge-preteen-camp/. The small group
curriculum will be sent to your church contact person no later than three weeks before camp begins.
5. Can our church pick the dorms we stay in? Pineywoods does all cabin assignments based on numbers and cannot
take requests for cabin assignments.
6. Can teens be sponsors or junior sponsors? NO, BY STATE LAW ALL SPONSORS, IN ANY CAPACITY,
MUST BE 18 YEARS OLD.
7. Can we switch sponsors in the middle of the week? You can change out sponsors if it is absolutely necessary. A
fee of $15 is required for the addition of another person. Children thrive on consistency and camp is about helping
kids know the one true God. Kids need sponsors at camp that will love and connect with them all week long.
8. Can sponsors bring their younger children to camp? The only children allowed at camp are children that have
completed 3rd- 6th grade. A sponsor’s main focus at camp is ministering to pre-teens; they cannot do that and care for
younger children.
9. Are there motel rooms that sponsors can stay in? Motel rooms are reserved for camp staff and guest speakers.
There are not motel rooms for sponsors, or church personnel, or senior pastors.
10. Does Pineywoods use peanut oil? No, Pineywoods does not use peanut oil in their cooking; however, it is NOT a
“peanut-free” facility. If someone in your group has food allergies or special dietary needs please email
[email protected] or call 936.642.1723 to get further information on planning for meals while at camp.
11. Can we add kids to our group at the last minute? You can make last minute changes to your group, but you must
email [email protected] or call Pineywoods at 936.642.1723 to see if we will have room and understand that
child/sponsor may not have a t-shirt.
12. Can we do the ropes course? No, due to insurance coverage for minors, the ropes course is not available during
camp for anyone.
13. Can we pay for the Camp DVD in the same check that we pay for camp? No, you will need one check to pay for
camp and another for DVDs. Camp DVDs will cost $10.00 each. Make DVD check payable to “Over the Edge Preteen Camp.”
14. What is the Mega Challenge? Each student will be given a packet of verses to memorize. They can pick and choose
which verse they want to work on. For each verse they say to their sponsor they can get a Mega Challenge ticket. All
verses are worth a certain number of mega challenge tickets. After the sponsor gives them a mega challenge ticket for
their verses; pre-teens can turn them into the mega challenge bucket on the stage. During the week, a drawing will
take place and students can receive prizes for their tickets.
15. What is Large Group Bible Study? That is when the whole camp meets in the tabernacle to hear the camp pastor
speak.
16. What is the Individual Quiet Time? Students are given a chance to take time out to do the student devotion in their
student book for that day in their cabin. This is a great opportunity for the campers to learn how to have their own
time with God. Sponsors will need to encourage their students to take time to do this and be in the cabin with them.
17. Are visitors allowed at camp? Visitors are strongly discouraged. However, any visitor on campus 18 and older will
be required to submit a printed copy of results from a criminal/sex offender background check for the current calendar
year and pay for all meals eaten with campers. Meals are $7.50 each.
