Safety Chain Plate (1) 27.24" Safety Cables with Shackles (2) Guidelines for Matching Truck to Trailer: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Trailer and all of its contents together must not exceed the truck, hitch and/or trailer tow rating. Towing vehicle must have a manufacturer’s rated towing capacity equal . to or greater than the gross trailer weight. Gross Trailer Weight = Trailer + Cargo + Water in tanks. Gross Trailer Weight must not exceed 18,000 lbs. (3,500 lbs. vertical). When towing with a short bed truck, the distance from the back of the cab to the center of hitch locking jaws should be 4" greater than from the center of the king pin to the outer edge of the trailer. The addition of an extended king pin box may allow for an even shorter turning radius. The height of the hitch and king pin box needs to be adjusted so that the trailer tows close to level, allowing approximately 6" of clearance between the top of the truck bed and the overhang of the trailer. “Our goal is to offer our clients the best product, the best value, the highest quality and the finest design in everything we manufacture!” Jacque Colibert Clarke - GM, Colibert Enterprises A. B. Center of bed. Mounting plate brackets vary for specific truck models. See the separate installation kit manuals for actual details on mounting plate and brackets. 9 Installation INSTALLATION Undercarriage Installation: 1. From the underside of the truck bed, install plastic bed plug into 3/4” hole in main plate.* Using 1/4" drill bit insert bit in center hole and drill up through hole. (Fig A.) 2. From inside the truck bed, using the piloted hole and a 1" hole saw, drill 1" hole into truck bed. DO NOT DRILL INTO HITCH. (Fig B.) *For instructions on installing the main plate see your truck-specific installation kit. The 3/4" hole on your specific main plate may be located on the opposite side of center hole. Easy installation, most of our installation kits don't even require drilling into the truck frame. A. B. C. D. *The Gooseneck Slider is shown but can be replaced with Fifth Wheel Slider. The initial installation instructions are the same for both. 11 Installation INSTALLATION Installing the RAIL RIDER™: 1. Place 1-5/8" spacer into hole in truck bed. Place hitch base plate, welded spacer goes through 3" hole in truck bed. Large 2" hole goes closest to truck cab, small retention holes go toward tailgate. Install 2" bolt, finger tighten only. Assemble 2" wrench using (2) 1/2" x 1-1/4" Bolt and (2) 1/2" Serrated Nut. (Fig. A) 2. Place side stop plates onto hitch base plate. Large hole on side hang over edge at notched area of base plate. Using wrench tighten 2" bolt until fully tightened. Place bolt lock plate, (1) 1/2" heavy flat washer, (1) 1/2" lock washer, and (1) 1/2" x 1-3/8" bolt onto hitch base. Rotate bolt lock plate until the most contact with 2" bolt head is obtained. Tighten 1/2" bolt to 75 ft. lb. (Fig. B) 3. Place either fifth wheel or gooseneck slide plate onto hitch base, (the installation is same for both slider units) spring loaded retaining pin goes toward tailgate. Place slide caps onto side stop and slider. (Fig. C) 4. Place (4) 1/2" x 2" bolts with (4) 1/2" lock washer into holes around the large outer holes, finger tighten only. (Fig. D) 5. Place handle retention plate on drivers side. Flat notched side goes toward center of hitch base. Place (2) 1/2" x 2" bolt and (2) 1/2" lock washer into holes. Install (2) 1/2" x 2" bolt and lock washers into remaining slide cap holes. Tighten all the 1/2" bolts to 75ft. lb. (Fig. D) 6. Insert 3/4" socket head bolt and 3/4" high collar lock washer through outer hole on base assembly that was drilled earlier. Place 5/8" hex into 3/4" socket bolt, using 5/8" socket tighten bolt to 200 ft. lb. (Fig. D) The RAIL RIDER™ Complete Slider System can be used for either a fifth wheel trailer or gooseneck trailer. The slider for either hitch can be placed in this system. A. B. C. *Safety chain plate 13 Installation INSTALLATION Installing the RAIL RIDER: 7. Insert U shaped end of retention handle through handle retention plate. Make sure other end of retention handle is pointing upward. (Fig. A) 8. Insert (1) 5/16" x 1- 5/8" clevis pin from drivers side, through handle and retention pin. Insert hair pin cotter into clevis pin. (Fig. A) 9. Place base support mounts at both ends of slider base (tapped block goes down toward hitch base plate.) Install (2) 1/2" x 2" bolt and (2) 1/2" lock washer into each end of slider base. (Fig. B) 10. Place base support foot tailgate side of slider. Attach with (2) 1/2" x 2" bolt, lock washer and (2) 1/2" heavy flat washer, hold foot flat against bed and tighten bolts to 75 ft. lb. Repeat on opposite side of slider. (Fig. C) *The safety chain plate allows you to tow with the peace of mind that your load is secure. Safety chains are a requirement for some states when towing a gooseneck trailer. Install between the support foot (located toward the tailgate) and the support mount. 11. Install handle on the end of retention pin rod secure with 5/16" x 1-1/8" clevis and hairpin cotter. Our hitches are designed to be installed using ordinary hand tools with little to no modification to the towing vehicle. A. B. C. 15 Installation INSTALLATION Installing the RAIL RIDER: These steps only necessary if you are installing the fifth wheel hitch version of the RAIL RIDER™ Complete Slider System. 12. With trailer level back truck under front of trailer, maintaining at least 5” from top of bed to underside of trailer. Measure from truck floor bed to bottom of king pin box. 13. Remove 1/2" x 2-1/4" clevis pins from adjustable upright supports. Place head into upright supports. Measure from truck floor to the top of the head unit. If adjustment is needed to match earlier measurement, remove head unit. Undo side adjustment bolts and adjust side plate to needed position. Reinstall bolts from the inside outward keeping bolts in upper most and lower most holes. Finger tighten bolts only at this time. (Fig. A) 14. Reinstall head unit, install clevis pins and clips and tighten 1/2" bolts to 75 ft. lb. (Fig. B) 15. Install handle to the head unit using attached clevis pins. (Fig. C) The Colibert RAIL RIDER™ Fifth Wheel Slider is inspired by our FREE RIDE®, the toughest fifth wheel hitch on the market. A. B. 17 Operation C. OPERATION slider Instructions: The RAIL RIDER™ is designed for standard towing in the forward position and tight maneuvering in the rearward position. 1. To release the slide from the front towing position, grab retention release handle, lift slightly to clear center pin, pull forward until you reach hook on retention plate. Push handle down and forward to catch under hook. Hitch is now unlocked. (Fig. A & B) 2. Engage trailer brakes pull forward. Hitch will lock when it reaches reward position. Tight maneuvering may now be accomplished. (Fig. C) 3. To return to towing position, grab retention release handle, lift slightly to clear center pin, pulling rearward until you reach rear hook on retention plate, pushing downward to catch under hooh. Hitch is now unlocked. 4. Engage trailer brakes, back up until slider locks in forward position. The trailer is now ready to be towed away. The 9" of additional clearance allowed by the RAIL RIDER™ Complete Slider System allows much easier backing in tighter situations with the availability to turn to almost 90 degrees. 19 Operation A. B. C. D. OPERATION Load Instructions - Fifth Wheel Slider: 1. The head unit is shipped from the factory with the retaining bail open and jaws open. 2. Install the release handle using pin and clip. 3. Pull the handle so that the pin sits in the load position. (Fig A. & B.) Now the hitch can be used. 4.Lube pivot saddles. Using jacks to adjust the trailer height, lower the trailer so that the bottom of the king pin box is 1/2" to 1" below the hitch top plate. During the loading process the king pin box will come in contact with hitch ramp. Note: Failure to follow instructions could result in damage to the trailer or the jaws of the hitch. 8. As the truck backs up slowly, the front of the trailer will rise slightly as the trailer slides into the hitch. 9. As the king pin enters, the jaws will close around the king pin allowing the bail to close, locking the king pin of the trailer. (Fig C. & D.) 10. Close the tailgate if necessary, raise the trailer jacks and remove the blocks. Note: Do not try to lower the trailer into the hitch! This will cause damage to the jaws as well as the king pin. “All of our products are designed with the installer and consumer in mind, keeping things safe, simple and easy for everyone to use.” Greg Colibert 21 Operation A.
