Building Blocks 2015 with Emily Hrobsky Building Blocks is a skill building workshop that has students knitting a different 12″ block every month that can be pieced together to create a lovely sampler afghan. The emphasis of this class is EDUCATION. Students are guided through the various stitches and techniques each month as their knitting knowledge is increased. With a different skill focus each month there is something new to learn at each class. Topics such as gauge, cast ons, bind offs, cables, increases, decreases, lace, pattern reading and more are covered. Join in the fun! 1st Wednesday of every month, 5 - 6:30 p.m Building in Color 2015 with June Sorensen Building in Color is a workshop that has students working with color. Ten strips go together to make an afghan. Each months students will work on a different strip and learn a new technique. Please call the studio at 847-390-1013 Project Classes Technique Classes Correcting Mistakes with Darlene Joyce Are you tired of running into the shop every time the stitches fall off the needle? Come and learn how to correct common mistakes made while knitting. You will learn to pick up dropped stitches in stockinette, garter, and at the end of the row. The class will include exercises in dropping down pattern stitches, picking up dropped stitches, and ripping out rows of knitting and getting stitches back on the needle. Please pick up homework sheet. Wed. January 7 Fee: $32 2 - 4 p.m. 2 hour class Socks from the Toe Up (Turkish Toe) with Courtney Buckalew With the yarn of your choice & some basic foot measurements, Courtney will guide you through the basic calculations & techniques for knitting a sock. The Turkish Toe does not use short rows like the German method and many knitters find it easier to execute. Students can opt to use double points or two circular needles. Fri. January 9 to 23 Fee: $60 Advanced Correcting Mistakes with Darlene Joyce Does taking out lace patterns confuse you? Do you want to become more skilled at ripping out your mistakes? This class was developed by popular request. Students must know how to rip out basic stockinette or have taken the “Correcting Mistakes” class. Please pick up homework sheet Wicker Cowl with K ate Joyce Learn how to knit very simple lace with knit two togethers and yarn overs. Choose any yarn and a 24” circular needle that is 2 sizes larger than what the ball band recommends. She knit a bunch of these for her bridesmaids! Wed. January 14 Fee: $32 Sat. January 10 Fee: $32 2 - 4 p.m. 2 hour class Short Rows* with Darlene Joyce Learn different purposes of short rows and how to work them, including wrapping and turning (w & t) and picking up the wraps (pw). Student will go through exercises on both the knit and purl sides. Wed. January 21 Fee: $15 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. 1 hour class Crochet Provisional Cast On* with Darlene Joyce Learn how to do a crochet provisional cast on that looks exactly like a bind off if left in tack or can be removed for live stitches to knit in the opposite direction. No crochet experience needed. Wed. January 28 Fee: $15 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. 1 hour class *Sign up for both Short Rows and Crochet Provisional Cast On and pay only $25! 10 a.m.- 12 p.m. 3 week class 1 - 3 p.m. 2 hour class Welted Reversible Scarf with Emily Hrobsky This welting technique involves slipping stitches. Each row is worked with only one color! After you get the hang of it, it is easy! Sun. January 11 Wed. February 11 Fee: $32 2 hour class 1 - 3 p.m. 5 - 7 p.m. Basic Mittens with Emily Hrobsky Learn how to make basic mittens for any of your loved ones! Emily will walk you through using double pointed needles. Sizing from child small to adult large. This pattern is a great basic for all yarn weights. Wed. January 14 to 28 Fee: $55 5 - 6:30 p.m. 3 week class Raised Vertical Triangles with June Sorensen Increases and decreases cause this knitted fabric to raise above the surface. This three dimensional look can be achieved by using only one color as well. Make ones, paired decreases, intarsia and fair isle are all covered in this class. Sat. January 24 Fee: $32 1 – 3 p.m. 2 hour class Holes (a.k.a. “Fish Lips”) with Georg L uxton Learn how to create holes and how to incorporate them into designs. After the holes are knit, stitches are picked up around the hole to form a border (or “lips”). Georg will show samples (a shawl and fingerless mitt) that incorporates as a design element. The holes can be open or filled in. Sat. February 21 Fee: $32 1 - 3 p.m. 2 hour week class My First Sweater with Darlene Joyce Use Ann Budd’s book, The Knitter’s Handy Book of Patterns and the yarn of your choice to make a basic pullover sweater or cardigan in any size. The set-in-sleeve is flattering to almost all body types. Couture techniques are taught to refine your knitting repertoire. In order to allow for knitting time, this class meets every other week. Sat. February 28, March 14, 28 & April 11 1- 3 p.m Fee: $80 4 week class Sun. January 25 1 - 3 p.m. Fee: $32 2 hour class Buttonhole Scarf with Courtney Buckalew Learn how to make this funky scarf by using a simple buttonhole technique. You can use one of the Wonderland kits or choose a solid color. If desired, the ends can be joined together to make a cowl. Fri. February 6 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Wed. February 25 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. Fee: $32 2 hour class Garter Lace Triangles with Darlene Joyce The technique used in this lace pattern is reminiscent of entrelac. A garter triangle is knit and stitches of increasing length are picked up along the edge. Very interesting to work. Students will make start a scarf or cowl. Sat. February 14 Fee: $32 Mix No. 34 with Darlene Joyce Learn how to make this textured scarf using right and left make ones and double decreases. Chart and written words given. This project is for a knitter with a little more experience. Homework required. 1 - 3 p.m. 2 hour class Fair Isle Knitting with June Sorensen Learn the traditional way of knitting stranded knitting using one color of yarn in each hand. You will combine both English and Continental knitting. Saturday, February 21, 10 a.m.—4 p.m. (with a lunch break) Fee: $50 MYS cannot promise any make-up classes for missed classes. Any exceptions are at the discretion of the owner. Please do not ask the teachers because they are not authorized to make an exception. Crochet Classes Beginning/ Intermediate Crochet with MYS Staff This class is for crocheters of any skill level. It is tailored around what you know and what you'd like to learn. If you're new to crochet, you'll get started with chain, single, and double crochet stitches. Already know the basics? Then learn to read patterns and stitch diagrams. If you want to learn classics like granny squares, doilies, motifs, or filet crochet, only your imagination is the limit! Come prepared with a project of your choosing, and let's get started. Fri. February 13 to March 6 Fee: $40 10 - 11 a.m. 10 - 11 a.m. 4 week class Frostyflakes Scarf with Darlene Joyce With the snow getting ready to fall, this project is jus the right project. Crochet Vashti’s Braha’s Frostyflakes for a perfect accent piece. You can use any dk weight yarn and some size 6 seed beads (optional) for the edging. We have some beads in stock for your convenience. Sat. January 10 1 - 3 p.m. Fee: $32 2 hour class Tunisian Mittens (Double-Ended) with Darlene Joyce Learn how to use a double ended hook and crochet Tunisian in the round. We will be using two colors to form a pattern. Knowledge of some Tunisian crochet required. Wed. February 4 & 11 2 - 4p.m. Fee: $50 2 week class Vibrations with Darlene Joyce Originally designed for the Chicago Yarn Crawl 2014. Learn how to do a basic ripple stitch using self striping yarn fingering weight yarn and a size H or I crochet hook. Pattern is free with class registration or for purchase for $5 on Ravelry. Thurs. February 18 2 - 4 p.m. Fee: $32 2 hour class Exploring Tunisian Crochet with Darlene Joyce Saturday January 17 10 a.m.— 3 p.m. (with a one hour lunch break) The Lunch Bunch Group! Wednesdays, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. ¨ ¨ You gotta eat! You gotta knit/crochet! Everyone is welcome:) Bring your lunch! During the first half of class you will learn the basics of Tunisian crochet including the anatomy of Tunisian crochet stitches, Tunisian simple stitch, Tunisian knit stitch, abbreviations, etc. During the second half, advanced applications of Tunisian will be explored. Please ask for a supply list when registering. Fee: $50. Pre-registration required. Required Book: The New Tunisian Crochet (Available at MYS) Coming in March Bunny Fun with Darlene Joyce With the Lamb’s Pride colors of your choice and a size 10 1/2 needle, this bunny knits up quick. Students will learn short row shaping, basic animal construction and how to felt. It is a joy to make and soooo cute:) Sat. March 7 & 21 Fee: $50 1 - 3 p.m. 2 week class Shrug This! with Courtney Buckalew Quite possibly the easiest sweater pattern ever. Using a large needle and a little thicker yarn (or a double strand of yarn), this shrug is done in no time. Courtney will help with sizing this pattern for any body size. Designed by Toni Kayser Weiner. Pattern is available for free. This shrug is perfect for a little summer cover up. Fri. Of course, you can always register in person! Minimum: A minimum of three students is required in order for a class to run.
