As in many places around the world, she found that these people were on the margins of society— hidden from view and stigmatized. Sister Phyllis dreamed of having a house where children with these disabilities could stay and be cared for while their mothers had one day a week to care for themselves. This dream has come true and today THE NEST OF HOPE HAS GROWN BY LEAPS AND BOUNDS. The mothers of these children are now able to take jobs, such as doing laundry, to earn a much needed income. Please help Sister to continue her ever-growing ministry. Quarter Cards are still available on the tables in the back of the church for those who have not had the opportunity to pick one up. Thank you and God bless. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ LONGING FOR MORE OUT OF LIFE? Get Energized, Educated & Inspired! Wednesday Evening Confessions Across the Archdiocese this Lent On all the Wednesdays of Lent until April 1st, from 6:308:00pm, we will be offering confessions at our three TriParishes together with all the Catholic parishes and chapels in the Archdiocese of Boston. This outreach is called “The Light is On For You,” and is an effort on the part of our Archdiocese to highlight the importance of the Sacrament of Confession in the life of Catholics and to make it as easy as possible for every Catholic to come or to return to this great source of God’s mercy and healing love. You are welcome to come here or to go to any other Catholic parish or chapel. The Archdiocese has set up a website, www.TheLightIsOnForYou.org, with lots of great material and videos to help you prepare. Let us welcome Gaetano DiDomenico and Izayah M. Thompson who were baptized here this past weekend. Lower Church—The floors are complete and the pews are being reinstalled. The painting has begun! We should be able to return to worship in the lower church in the next couple of months. We thank you for your patience and understanding during this time. Please keep our parish in your prayers. Get your Irish Soda Bread for St. Pat’s Day at Little Sisters of the Poor, Highland Ave. Angela’s Famous Irish Bread at $6.00 a loaf—available at the front lobby on March 15th—until it sells out! FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT, MARCH 15, 2015 A Note from Father Brian: Bulletin Connection to the Readings: “Whoever lives the truth comes to the light.” Think about the sun for a moment. The light from this gigantic celestial orb provides so many things for us. Most obviously, it provides brightness by which we work, play, and navigate the world around us. It also provides the warmth necessary for our comfort and our survival. The sun sustains plant life, which in turn sustains our lives as well. It helps us mark the passing of time, the change of seasons, and the rhythm of every day. The sun is a tremendous gift from God, and our lives—just life our planet—quite literally revolve around it. When Jesus uses the image of light in today’s Gospel, it may help us to understand Him if we think of the sun. Just as this magnificent star nourishes our physical existence, so to Jesus nourishes our spiritual existence. He gives us the “brightness” to see the right choices in front of us through His teaching and through His example. He warms our hearts through His mercy and forgiveness, changing our coldhearted sinfulness into burning charity. He sustains our spiritual lives by offering us the gift of salvation. He helps us mark the passing of time as we grow ever closer to Him, entering more and more deeply into the knowledge and love of Our Lord. Stewardship News: All that we have and all that we are comes from the Lord. “We are truly His handiwork,” says St. Paul in the second reading, “created in Christ Jesus to lead a life of good deeds which God prepared for us in advance.” Last weekend our Tri-Parishes launched the 2015 Catholic Appeal. We would like to thank all who have given so generously. If you were unable to attend Mass last weekend and wish to make a pledge to the Catholic Appeal, please take a pledge form from the tables in back of the church or you can also make a gift or pledge online at www.bostoncatholicappeal.org. Thank you for your prayers and support for a successful Catholic Appeal. ****Somerville’s Tri-Parish Catholic Community: Although we are 3 parishes, we are united as ONE Catholic Community, one large family. To thrive in an individualistic world, we need people of prayer who pray for our community. Commit yourself to praying and living the Amazing Parish Prayer on the right every day this week. Sacred Triduum This year, in an effort to strengthen our collaborative, we will be celebrating one Sacred Triduum, in English, among the three parishes. Holy Thursday at St. Ann has traditionally been bi-lingual and we will be keeping that tradition this year. Good Friday will be at St. Joseph and Holy Saturday at St. Catherine of Genoa. This will be an adjustment for many, however, having more people come together to celebrate this most sacred time, where we recall in a deeper way the death and resurrection of Our Lord, can only strengthen our worship. In order to accommodate those with limited mobility and transportation, we are asking those who would be interested in taking a bus from their home parish to the location of the Liturgy for that evening to call Fr. Brian at 617-666-2087 and leave your name. We do not want anyone to be left out; all three parishes are accessible to those with mobility issues. WE NEED AN ACCURATE COUNT BY MARCH 23rd so we can hire the correct size bus. COMMITMENT TO PRAYER: At the beginning of Lent our community made a commitment to increase the time spent in prayer each day. Have you remained faithful to your commitment? There’s still time to build your relationship with God this Lent. Use “The Word Among Us” to read the daily scripture readings and reflect on the message God is giving you. Through daily prayer God will lead you to become the best version of yourself! FIAT Fiat is a discernment group for women in the Archdiocese of Boston who are considering a vocation to religious life. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 25th from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Sisters of St. Joseph, 637 Cambridge St., Brighton. The Feast of the Annunciation will be celebrated that evening with the theme: “Living Our Fiat.” If you are interested in attending, please contact Sister Marian Batho, CSJ, Delegate for Religious, [email protected] or call 617-7465637. Amazing Parish Prayer Heavenly Father, You have gathered us together as a parish to be Your visible life in our world. Here we unite in worship, proclaim Your word, celebrate the Eucharist, and are sent forth to share Your love and make disciples. Lord, we take Your Great Commission seriously and long for our parish to be so on-fire that we draw people to You. Help us in that endeavor, as we strive to work together— ordained, religious and laity. Please make our parish amazing, through Your power and Your grace. Amen.
