Welcome to the second half of the year 2016 for the Regina Whittlers and
Woodcarvers!
In 2015, I said this: “In the second half of the football season we are hopeful that the
Riders will have new energy and play smart winning football.” I am still hoping for
that!
In the second half of our carving year, we are hopeful that members will take part in special classes
described elsewhere in this newsletter, regular projects on the third Thursday of each month, and that
we will see new faces joining us after learning lots at the Beginner Classes.
First meeting this fall is coming up very soon – September 8th at the Balkwill Centre at 7 pm. Come on
out and renew acquaintances. The Executive talked about making our meeting nights more active by
encouraging all of you to bring along a project that you can work on during the meeting. I am sure that
we are capable of listening/talking and carving! Show and Tell is scheduled for the end of the business
portion of the meeting. You are welcome to show a finished or unfinished project if you wish.
Queen City Exhibition
During the summer, some of our members shared their art and their time at the RWW display at the
QCX. The following members came out to the Ex and informed and charmed the public who stopped by
to see our display.

Bob Dawson, Jerry Ford and Andre Beaudoin brought carvings for the display even though they couldn’t
work at the Ex. We were very glad to see Jerry and Barb Ford who came along on Sunday afternoon.
Special thanks to Mary Hornung who brought Dave’s carvings for display and who is wonderful at
engaging with people and providing information about the carvings.

Jeannene and Bob Demencuik were going to help but unfortunately Jeannene had a very serious fall in
July and broke her kneecap – a very painful injury that immobilized her. I hope that you are feeling a bit
better now, Jeannene!
Many people stopped to talk and to watch as we included carving display sections right in the midst of
the display. Several people signed up for lessons this fall. It does seem as though being at the Ex gives us
a lot of good publicity. I think that those of us who spend time at the Ex really enjoy it.

month at the Neil Balkwill Centre 7:00pm. It’s a great time to
gather, carve, and share. The Odd numbered months are formal
business meetings.

RWW Club Happening by Herb Klassen
Shareshop
Mark your calendars.
Regina is hosting a Shareshop on September 17th and 18th. It will be held at the Regina
Senior Citizens’ Centre next to the Neil Balkwill. The centre is on Elphinstone Street
with access from both Elphinstone and 15th Avenue.
All carvers are welcome!!!
The Shareshop happens every year with a different host club. Melfort, Saskatoon, and Regina have been
taking turns being the hosts.
We will be hosting carvers from Saskatchewan and beyond. This is a free weekend of carving
with a project supplied. The only cost for admission is a “smile”. Don’t worry about the skill level, there
will be other carvers that will help you if you ask.
To assist with the preparations, it would be useful to know how many people are planning on attending.
The times will be 9ish to 5ish on both Saturday and Sunday. If you can only make it for part of the
weekend, that is totally acceptable.
Meal plans have not been finalized. Please be prepared to be responsible for your own meals. We can
organize some catering if people are interested.

Fall Class
Emile Gaudet is offering to teach a Power Carving Class this fall. The class will cover 3 weekends and the
proposed dates will be from October 14 to November 4.
The project will be a Chickadee and at the end of the class you will have a completed project including
painting.
In order for the class to go ahead we need some more participants. There are currently 3 registrations
and we really need 5 to make the class viable. The cost will be $250.
