ABB has won an order for Gorona del
Viento’s renewable energy project and will
supply medium voltage (MV) equipment for
the project on El Hierro, the smallest of the
Canary Islands. Thanks to this plant El
Hierro will be the first totally autonomous
island from an energy generation point of
view, with CO2 zero emission technologie.
The project will include a small 11.5 MW wind
farm and an 11.32 MW hydroelectric
pumped storage plant that will use excess
electricity to pump water to a reservoir.
The wind farm, water turbines and pumps will
be controlled from an interconnection
substation
