September 9~The 23rdSunday of Ordinary Time
First Reading: Isaiah 35:4 - 7
Second Reading: James 2:1 - 5
Gospel: Mark 7:31 - 37
Listen, my beloved brothers and sisters. Has not
God chosen the poor in the world to be rich in faith
and to be heirs of the kingdom that he has promised
to those who love him?
Questions of the Week
Adult: When has your faith in Jesus enabled you to
speak out on an issue of importance?
Child: What does your belief in Jesus mean to you?
The
next
issue
of
Leitourgia is available for
pick up this weekend.
Please find your copy (one
per family) in the Usher’s Closet located in the
hallway leading to the Sacristy. This edition of
Leitourgia will include all liturgical minister schedules
from September 16 through Advent.
Holy Hour for Vocations will be at 11:00 AM on
Tuesday, September 4 in the church.
FORMATION
Foundations
of
Our
Faith
with
John
Cornwell...The deadline for registration is Thursday,
September 6; just call the Parish Office, 896-0241.
First meeting is September 10, with a look into the
history and political dynamics of the Palestine in
which Jesus lived and carried out His ministry.
RCIA adapted for Children...This process, which
happens after the 9:30 AM mass on Sundays, is how
older children can become full members of the
Catholic faith. They may need to be Baptized,
receive First Communion and Confirmation. This is a
formation process so parents are expected to attend
when the children are in class. Call the Parish Office
for more information. Sessions begin September 16.
Here’s something new. CD's are available in the
Gathering Space kiosk. Play them in the car or at
home...when you are finished please return them so
someone else can enjoy them. If it is something you
might want for yourself the cost is $3.00 for each CD.
Put your money in an envelope and mark it CD's.
Feedback is appreciated. Call the Parish Center.

PARISH OUTREACH
Walk with the Kidney Beans!
Rob and Karen Waddell, co-chairs of this year’s
National Kidney Foundation Walk, invite you to
join them in the
Kidney Walk. The
Waddell
family's
journey continues
because
one
person made a
difference in their
lives. Rob, Karen,
and their family take these steps to help make a
difference in the lives of others who have been
touched by kidney disease. Please join the
Waddell family and their Kidney Beans team on
Sunday, September 30 for the Kidney Walk at
Waterfront Park. Registration begins 1:00 PM,
walk starts at 2:00 PM. Bring your family,
friends, and even pets to support this great
cause. Please visit our team page http://
donate.kidney.org/goto/thekidneybeans. If you
are unable to join us please consider making a
minimal donation. Rob and Karen will be
available after 11:30 AM mass on September
16 for more information.
Your cooperation is requested...Recently, we have
noticed that our parishioners are being asked to
financially help individuals and families in need after
weekend masses. These individuals have been in
the parking lot and in the church building. PLEASE
DO NOT give these individuals money. Guide them
to contact the parish office on Monday or to seek help
at any of the area ministries; the closest one is St.
Matthews Area Ministries. Our outreach to this kind
of need is better served when we do NOT hand out
cash and when we use the resources that the area
ministries have available.

Prayer for Work
Creator God,
Thank you for providing us with the gift to share
our talents. Provide our community, our nation,
our world the fortitude to provide work for all which
is decent and fair.
Make us faithful stewards of your creation to
enhance the human dignity of our global family.
We ask this in the name of Jesus, who lives and
reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, now and
forever. Amen.

USCCB, April 1998)
Retrouvaille~Help
and
Hope
for
struggling marriages...The four stages of
marriage are romance, disillusionment,
misery and awakening. Many marriages
experience the first three stages, and
marriages that end in divorce never make it
to the fourth stage. If your marriage suffers from
disillusionment or misery, don’t give up on your
relationship without learning about the fourth stage.
A Retrouvaille program will be held locally September
21-23. For information or to register, please call
(502) 479-3329 or (800) 470-2230. Information can
also be found online at www.HelpOurMarriage.com.
Registrations accepted on a space available basis.
Confidentiality is assured.
