Our vast number of specialty camps allow youth to pursue the interests for which they have passion. Campers are making friends and feeling a sense of belonging. Healthy Kids Day: April 30 Join us on April 30 for a celebration of keeping our kids physically and intellectually active, and save $5 on each camp week when registering on April 30. Our GIANT, familyfun carnival event for all ages will be held at the Toby Wells YMCA Park. Registration for this event is available at both Mission Valley and Toby Wells YMCAs. To confirm your child’s registration, please visit missionvalley.ymca.org. Please make sure to pay the balance seven days prior to each camp or your child will be dropped from the roster and you will forfeit your deposit. Reminder: you will not be receiving a weekly camp bill. Financial Assistance Camperships are available to those families in need of financial assistance. New experiences, skill building, a sense of community and lasting friendships are all part of traditional day camps. Trained camp leaders focus on caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all of our activities to maximize fun during the day! Set in the YMCA style of different crazy activities and themes each week, your camper will participate in team building games, arts and crafts, science experiments and more! With a phenomenal staff supervision ratio of 1:6, campers will enjoy a daily 30-minute YMCA preschool-level swim lesson conducted by some of our outstanding YMCAcertified swim instructors. The rest of their action-packed day will be spent getting messy doing arts and crafts, getting dirty playing games, and silly-singing their favorite camp songs. A 30-minute indoor quiet time will also be taken by this camp. Build self-confidence, meet new friends and have a blast while exploring San Diego. Get a thrill from activities at the camp facility such as sports clinics, science experiments or arts and crafts, while exploring exciting weekly themes. As if this isn’t enough, take trips to different amazing locations, and bring home stories to share. Day campers will be divided into small groups by age, and will participate in activities appropriate to the interests and needs of their group. Campers will spend full days at the ranch learning the basics of equestrian instruction (haltering, leading, tying, riding, grooming and tacking), as well as how to really care for and create relationships with their horses. They’ll meet a veterinarian, horse chiropractor, and farrier (technician who fits horseshoes) to gain an inside look into horsemanship. Instructors focus on basic safety, balance and simple maneuvers so that kids can master the basics. Advanced riders can expect a focus on higher-level techniques so that campers can perfect skills that they already know. Come hang ten with us this summer, and get your feet wet in the world of surfing in a safe, supervised, fun environment with YMCA surf staff. Start the week off on the beach learning how to pop up on your board and read the ocean. We will investigate different sets, breaks and tides. Surfers will learn paddling techniques and ultimately how to drop into the wave with our experienced instructors, who will also teach about water safety and equipment care. Daily instruction will be based on the ability levels of our campers, who will average two hours per day in the water. Our young surfers will also participate in beach sports and games. Limited beginner boards are available — children sharing loaner boards may experience limited time in the water. Any boards brought by surfers must have nose and fin guards in order to be permitted for use. In the event of inclement weather or ocean conditions (e.g. rip tides, stingrays), campers will participate in beach activities until water entry is safe. Rash guards are required daily.
