OUR CAMP STAFF
OUR CAMP STAFF ARE...
VETTED
We complete reference checks and extensive background checks on
each of our camp staff.
TRAINED
Day camp staff complete extensive pre-camp training, including first
aid, CPR/AED, planning, child abuse prevention, age-appropriate
activities, and character-development awareness.
COMMITTED
Our staff members possess extraordinary skills in working
with children and a passion for helping each child develop.
Each staff is committed to helping children and teens make
new friends and find a true sense of belonging at camp.
PEACE OF MIND
You can have peace of mind when
you enroll your children in day camps
at Mission Valley YMCA. With a low
camper-to-staff ratio, each child and
teen will receive individual attention
in a safe and supportive environment.
What sets our camps apart is the
quality of our staff. All of our day
camp staff members are carefully
selected for their enthusiasm,
experience and professionalism.

Mission Valley YMCA has been offering outstanding summer camps for
more than 30 years. We believe that every young person is a unique
individual with his/her own rate of development. Our goal is to introduce
children and teens to as many new experiences as possible and help each
child feel confident and secure in a fun, safe camp environment. YMCA
day camps challenge children to grow in imagination, creativity, selfdirected initiative, and leadership.
We are dedicated to changing the lives of our campers by creating
friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. All of our YMCA
day camps have been voluntarily accredited by the American Camp
Association. Accreditation identifies those programs which offer a solid
foundation of health, safety and
program quality. Our day camps

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CAMP DIRECTORS
Greetings and welcome to summer 2016! We are extremely delighted about and committed to
providing a top-notch experience to you and your family this summer camp session. We are
dedicated to going above and beyond in customer service and program
quality, and we want you to know that you can count on the Y to
provide educational and enriching programs for youth. You can
depend on the Y to be a home away from home this summer.
Our camp leadership team is made up of seasoned staff with
extensive camp experience and a love for camp. Our No. 1 goal is to
provide the safest, most enriching environment possible for you and
your family. Whether your camper is exploring San Diego County or
enjoying learning new skills and activities, we are sure that your

GIVING BACK
Our camp program is a safe and secure environment for kids
and teens.
Our vast number of specialty camps allow youth to pursue the
interests for which they have passion.
Campers are making friends and feeling a sense of belonging. We
will continue to build upon the success of last summer!
We improved upon providing children with opportunities to give back
and support our community. This summer, we will provide even more
ways that campers can volunteer to help others.
OUR FOCUS THIS SUMMER
We’re working on ways, such as text alerts, to better communicate
COMMUNICATION with parents about all of the fun that is happening at camp each day!
FUN FACTOR

FEEDBACK
We’ve challenged our staff to implement more silly, fun and wacky
ideas to keep our campers guessing and laughing all summer long.
We’ll continue to focus on helping campers make friends, create
a sense of belonging and achieve their goals, all while nurturing
character development and being physically active.
We want to elicit as much feedback as possible from parents,
campers and staff. Look out for weekly opportunities to share your
thoughts on how we serve your family in our program.

CAMP CHANGES
We’ve made some changes this summer!
When you’re looking for your camp favorites, please keep in mind:
GRADES AND AGES
We’re now designing our camps for your children and teens based on their ages AND grades. This allows us to
align our programs with campers’ school learning, and now your family has more choices!
TRADITIONAL CAMP NAMES & CATEGORIES
Did you know? In San Diego, when you join one Y, you join them all! As a service to our members and camp
participants, all San Diego YMCA locations now offer the SAME traditional camps. We want to make sure
you’re getting the same great camp experience at any Y you choose.
This summer, our traditional camps at Mission Valley YMCA and Toby Wells YMCA are going by new names, but
don’t worry, they’re still the same classic camps your children know and love!
