DEAR YMCA FRIENDS:
As a 501(c)(3) not-for profit, the Y’s cause is to strengthen the communities we serve. We do this through programs and
services that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Thanks to our many donors, partners and
community collaborations, here are a few examples of the Y’s impact in the communities we serve.
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT: Today, your YMCA serves 842 children in afterschool programs that focus on fun, character
development, physical activity and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). This is made possible in large part
due to grant funding from 21st Century Community Learning programs, Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) and valued
partnerships with several area school systems in Olean, Bradford and Wellsville. These programs are designed to give
families - many of whom could not otherwise afford it - a high quality, safe and enriching place for their children during the
most vulnerable hours of the day for kids five to 18 years of age. Across our service area, every 6th grader gets a free
membership to the YMCA. The Y serves 200 children in early learning programs. Seven-in-10 of those children can only
attend as a result of financial subsidy. We gratefully acknowledge the United Way of Cattaraugus County, the United Way of
the Bradford Area, state grant funders and private donors for giving these children opportunities otherwise not possible.
We’re appreciative of our relationships with Jamestown Community College, St. Bonaventure University, Upper Allegheny
Health System, Alfred State College, the town of Wellsville, and the Bradford, Olean and Wellsville Chambers of Commerce,
which provide us an opportunity to broaden our reach in youth sports and development programs.
HEALTHY LIVING: Two of every three members who join the Y are considered “health seekers,” which include those who are
not regular exercisers. The YMCA is a nurturing, compassionate place that seeks to serve people of all abilities, sizes and
shapes. To create a healthier community, the Y participates in local healthcare partnerships and coalitions focused on
addressing the obesity and diabetes epidemic among youth and adults. Healthcare providers can refer patients to the Y for
a free 30-day membership, which includes a fitness assessment and weekly coaching. More than 150 Corporate Partners
participate in a unique cost-sharing opportunity that provides access to the Y for their employees and families. When a
business invests $10/month towards an employee’s monthly membership fee, the YMCA matches it. In 2016, the YMCA
plans on rolling out another unique program that gives individual Y members an opportunity to lower their fees when they
refer friends and family to the YMCA. New wellness programs at the Y include LesMILLS BODYPUMP™, Enhance®Fitness,
Fitness On Request™ and the YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: According to the Y’s most recent audit, 93 cents of every dollar is used for direct delivery of
programs and services; only seven cents are used for administrative and fundraising expenses. When you give to the YMCA,
you can trust that your money is stewarded responsibly. Your YMCA serves 16,000 people in our service area. Almost
4,000 of those individuals can only participate as a result of financial support from caring individuals, businesses and
foundations. In 2015, the YMCA of the Twin Tiers gave back $1.05 million in direct financial assistance, pass-through grant
subsidies and other in-kind services to the community.

program for those individuals and families who qualify.

“I lost my wife in 2001 and was advised
by my doctor to join the Y in 2007. The
rest is history . . . I have been an active
member since. I never dreamed I would
find such friendly and caring staff at the
Y. They have become my second family.
Kelly is my trainer and keeps me going in
the Wellness Center, and Brenda has
become a very special friend. I especially
love to tease the staff and tell jokes. They keep me going and give me a reason to get
up and get out and socialize. I don’t know where I’d be without the Y. It’s a true gem in
our community.”

Wellsville YMCA
“When the Y came to Wellsville, my family was
unable to afford a membership. Then I learned
about the assistance program and got my daughter
enrolled in the school-age child care program. Two
years later, my doctor recommended my husband
and I meet with a personal trainer to improve our
health. We applied for a scholarship and are able to
pay based on our income. Now, my family comes to
the Y together. My husband and I have “date
nights” in the gym, while my children go to child
watch. We now have an affordable, safe and caring
environment where we can spend time and get
healthy. Without the Y and its financial assistance
program, we wouldn’t be where we are today.”

YMCA OF THE TWIN TIERS PLANNED GIVING SOCIETIES
The YMCA Planned Giving Societies are organizations of special individuals who have felt or seen, in their time, the impact of
the Y on the lives of people. The purpose of the Societies is to build long-range financial stability by strengthening the
YMCA of the Twin Tiers Foundation. Individuals who make a cash gift ($1,000 minimum) to one of the Y’s endowment funds
or provide for the Y through their estate planning are recognized as members of a Planned Giving Society.

Wellsville YMCA
“When the Y came to Wellsville, my family was
unable to afford a membership. Then I learned
about the assistance program and got my daughter
enrolled in the school-age child care program. Two
years later, my doctor recommended my husband
and I meet with a personal trainer to improve our
health. We applied for a scholarship and are able to
pay based on our income. Now, my family comes to
the Y together. My husband and I have “date
nights” in the gym, while my children go to child
watch. We now have an affordable, safe and caring
environment where we can spend time and get
healthy. Without the Y and its financial assistance
program, we wouldn’t be where we are today.”

At the Y, no one is turned away due to the inability to pay. Thanks to
the generosity of the communities we serve and our loyal and
dedicated supporters, our scholarship program provides assistance to

“I lost my wife in 2001 and was advised
by my doctor to join the Y in 2007. The
rest is history . . . I have been an active
member since. I never dreamed I would
find such friendly and caring staff at the
Y. They have become my second family.
Kelly is my trainer and keeps me going in
the Wellness Center, and Brenda has
become a very special friend. I especially
love to tease the staff and tell jokes. They keep me going and give me a reason to get
up and get out and socialize. I don’t know where I’d be without the Y. It’s a true gem in
our community.”

The YMCA serves the entire community and is open to everyone.
Donors enable the YMCA, a charitable, non-profit organization in
compliance with IRS code 501(c)3, to offer a financial assistance
program for those individuals and families who qualify.

DEAR YMCA FRIENDS:
As a 501(c)(3) not-for profit, the Y’s cause is to strengthen the communities we serve. We do this through programs and
services that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Thanks to our many donors, partners and
community collaborations, here are a few examples of the Y’s impact in the communities we serve.
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT: Today, your YMCA serves 842 children in afterschool programs that focus on fun, character
development, physical activity and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). This is made possible in large part
due to grant funding from 21st Century Community Learning programs, Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) and valued
partnerships with several area school systems in Olean, Bradford and Wellsville. These programs are designed to give
families - many of whom could not otherwise afford it - a high quality, safe and enriching place for their children during the
most vulnerable hours of the day for kids five to 18 years of age. Across our service area, every 6th grader gets a free
membership to the YMCA. The Y serves 200 children in early learning programs. Seven-in-10 of those children can only
attend as a result of financial subsidy. We gratefully acknowledge the United Way of Cattaraugus County, the United Way of
the Bradford Area, state grant funders and private donors for giving these children opportunities otherwise not possible.
We’re appreciative of our relationships with Jamestown Community College, St. Bonaventure University, Upper Allegheny
Health System, Alfred State College, the town of Wellsville, and the Bradford, Olean and Wellsville Chambers of Commerce,
which provide us an opportunity to broaden our reach in youth sports and development programs.
HEALTHY LIVING: Two of every three members who join the Y are considered “health seekers,” which include those who are
not regular exercisers. The YMCA is a nurturing, compassionate place that seeks to serve people of all abilities, sizes and
shapes. To create a healthier community, the Y participates in local healthcare partnerships and coalitions focused on
addressing the obesity and diabetes epidemic among youth and adults. Healthcare providers can refer patients to the Y for
a free 30-day membership, which includes a fitness assessment and weekly coaching. More than 150 Corporate Partners
participate in a unique cost-sharing opportunity that provides access to the Y for their employees and families. When a
business invests $10/month towards an employee’s monthly membership fee, the YMCA matches it. In 2016, the YMCA
plans on rolling out another unique program that gives individual Y members an opportunity to lower their fees when they
refer friends and family to the YMCA. New wellness programs at the Y include LesMILLS BODYPUMP™, Enhance®Fitness,
Fitness On Request™ and the YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: According to the Y’s most recent audit, 93 cents of every dollar is used for direct delivery of
programs and services; only seven cents are used for administrative and fundraising expenses. When you give to the YMCA,
you can trust that your money is stewarded responsibly. Your YMCA serves 16,000 people in our service area. Almost
4,000 of those individuals can only participate as a result of financial support from caring individuals, businesses and
foundations. In 2015, the YMCA of the Twin Tiers gave back $1.05 million in direct financial assistance, pass-through grant
subsidies and other in-kind services to the community.
