On Our Cover
This year’s winner of our Create The Cover Contest
is Kenny Henderson of Robbinsville. Kenny is in
fifth grade at Pond Road Middle School and enjoys
basketball and drawing (of course)! Kenny’s mom
learned about the contest during one of her visits
to the Y for a Personal Training session.
Kenny’s favorite thing to do at the Y is playing
basketball with his dad and brother. This drawing
shows all the ways his family gets to enjoy
membership at the Hamilton Area YMCA.
We are a charitable organization dedicated to building a healthy spirit, mind, and body.
Part of a world-wide movement, we put Christian principles into practice through
programs that promote good health, strong families, youth leadership, community
development, and international understanding. YMCAs are open to men, women,
and children of all ages, incomes, abilities, races, and religions.
- YMCA Mission Statement
Start Here. Stay Here.
When you join the Y, you join a community organization that offers more health, more hope, more opportunity.
Parents find a safe, nurturing environment for their children to stay active, be engaged and learn positive values.
Families come together to have fun and spend quality time with each other. Children and teens play, develop
self-confidence and know they are accepted. Adults connect with friends, pursue interests and learn how to live
healthier. People from all backgrounds and walks of life come together to volunteer and help our community
become stronger. We all build relationships that further our sense of belonging and purpose.
Parent Child
The Y recognizes the importance of the bond between parent and child. We provide an environment where
children can have positive experiences with their parent while learning, growing and thriving. In the end, the bond
is strengthened and enriched.
Preschool
Preschool classes at the Y provide a safe, fun environment where kids grow, build character and form friendships
that last a lifetime. We offer an array of fun and innovative programs where kids ages 3 - 5 years can discover
who they are and what they like to do.
Youth
At the Y, children learn values and positive behaviors, and can explore their unique talents and interests, helping
them realize their potential. Activities at the Y give our children the opportunity to become confident kids today
and healthier, happier grown-ups tomorrow.
Teens
Teens are a tremendous community asset — their talents, their enthusiasm, their energy. The Y recognizes the
importance of engaging our young members in positive and healthy ways with programs designed around their
diverse needs and interests.
Adult
Joining the Y community helps to build relationships, gain confidence, reduce stress, and encourages healthy
lifestyles. We are here to help you regardless of your starting point with a variety of classes and supports to
keep you healthy in spirit, mind and body!
Older Adults
At the Hamilton Area YMCA, we’re committed to making sure every member of our community has access to the
resources they need to incorporate exercise into their day for a healthier, happier lifestyle. That’s the concept
behind our Active Older Adult (AOA) program. These group classes are offered in fun, supportive formats
designed to meet the needs of adults age 55 and over.
New! Parent/Child and Preschool Classes with Convenience
We’ve taken some of our most popular parent/child and preschool classes and scheduled them in convenient
back-to-back time slots. Register for one class or both! It’s your choice. You choose your schedule!

Y’S OWLS PRESCHOOL AT THE HAMILTON AREA YMCA
Y’s Owls Preschool is a place of discovery where each child is acknowledged as an individual with
his or her own feelings, needs and interests. Our philosophy is to focus on your child.
A preschool education provides opportunities for young children to discover their own abilities, to make
simple adjustments to their environment and to become aware of their bodies. Our program directors lead a
qualified, experienced staff in implementing the Creative Curriculum. This curriculum provides your child
with a balance of structured and independent activities and builds the foundations for academic and social
competence.
Our Preschool programs are state-licensed and affordable; serving children ages 3 - 5 in the Hamilton area.
Enrolled children benefit from:
• Kindergarten readiness
• Music appreciation
• Healthy U preschool fitness and nutrition program
• FREE weekly swim lessons for children attending five full days
• Large outdoor playground to enhance social and physical development
• Peanut/tree nut-free program environment
• Children’s library

Healthy Living Programs
The Hamilton Area YMCA’s Healthy Living Programs are changing the lives of our friends and neighbors living
with chronic disease. Because living with chronic disease often means living with co-pays, deductibles and
other expenses, these programs are offered at low- or no-cost to participants thanks to the generous
support of the Hamilton Area YMCA’s community partners and donors like you.
ACT! Youth Weight Management
Nearly one-third of American children have been diagnosed as either obese or overweight by their
pediatrician, and while countless dollars have been dedicated to preventing childhood obesity, parents often
find little in the way of assistance for a child who is already there. That is why we partnered with our friends
at Hamilton Pediatric Associates to create ACT! (Actively Changing Together). This 16-session program uses
a 3:1 ratio of exercise and nutrition sessions to teach boys and girls ages 8-17 the fundamentals of healthy
living and weight loss. ACT! participants have reported, not only lower BMIs and smaller measurements, but
they have also cited increased energy and improved self-esteem as benefits of the program. ACT! sessions
are held at the JKR Branch, at Robbinsville Senior Center and at New Covenant United Methodist Church.
Delay the Disease: Parkinson’s Disease
Research in the area of Parkinson’s Disease has shown that regular physical exercise can improve selfconfidence and independence, decrease the risk of a fall, minimize fatigue, reduce rigidity and improve
mobility. Delay the Disease is a twice-weekly class designed to specifically address the movement challenges
that come with Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions. Delay the Disease is held at the JKR Branch, as
well as the Robbinsville Senior Center and West Windsor Senior Center.
Healthy Ways
Nearly 26 million Americans have type 2 diabetes, and after the success of our ACT! program, we have had
many of our own members ask for a similar program that mixes physical activity and nutrition education.
Healthy Ways in our answer! Healthy Ways is a 16-session program that teaches adults the fundamentals of
exercise and nutrition. The program also provides group accountability for meeting both weight loss and
physical activity goals. Through Healthy Ways, participants will learn not only how to make necessary
changes to their lifestyle, but also how to maintain those changes for the rest of their lives.
One Step: Multiple Sclerosis
One Step is a twelve-week, 24-session course that provides safe, therapeutic exercise for adults who have
been medically diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. In addition to physical exercise, participants also receive
emotional support in a nurturing environment. One Step was created in partnership with the National
Multiple Sclerosis Society of New Jersey, and sessions are held at the JKR Branch.
THRIVE: Cancer Wellness Program
THRIVE stands for To Help Restore and Improve Vitality through Exercise, and for participants undergoing
cancer treatment, it does just that. The curriculum is specifically designed to build back muscle mass and
muscular strength, increase flexibility and cardiovascular endurance, and improve functional ability. THRIVE is
offered at no cost to participants, and their entire family receives a membership to the Y for the duration of
the program. THRIVE is held at the JKR Branch and the West Windsor Senior Center.
YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program
About 86 million adults in the United States – that’s 1 in 3 – have prediabetes, and studies show people with
prediabetes are likely to develop type 2 diabetes within 10 years unless they take steps to prevent it. If you
have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes, let the YMCA help. Our Diabetes Prevention Program will help you
learn to make healthier eating choices and increase your physical activity over a 12-month period, beginning
with 16 weekly sessions followed by monthly maintenance. Please note, individuals who have been diagnosed
with type 1 or type 2 diabetes are ineligible to participate in this program. Diabetes Prevention is held at the
JKR Branch and CareOne at Hamilton.
GIVE. AND DO SO MUCH MORE.
When you give to the Hamilton Area YMCA your gift helps young people
reach their potential, empowers people of all ages to lead healthier lives
and strengthens the bonds of community. Every gift makes a difference.
For A Better You. For A Better Community. For A Better Us.
The Hamilton Area YMCA would like to gratefully acknowledge those who
have partnered with us to strengthen our community.
